this manga rocks.

ANNOUNCEMENT! As of today August 10, 2007 Togashi is SAID to be returning soon to the magazine. Sources and dates aren't 100% reliable and even I risk raising hopes for nothing, but...I just couldn't keep my mouth shut =X

To all the loyal fans who kept waiting...this is the moment! or at least I dearly hope so!! ^_____^

i loved this manga because it gave me something i don't usually see in action mangas. the heroes have a lot of potential and are going strong very quickly, but the other people who in world are just to far above them in levels that no matter what the heroes can never challenge them in a straight up fight. its crazy. also any character we've seen once usually comes back though they also tend to die quite abruptly as well. its still great though and i hope to read more

Characters, plot, concept, it excels in all these aspects. As for artwork, I've seen some of his better stuff, and there is no doubt that he can draw really well. Too bad he gets lazy at times, but the poor artwork is overshadowed by the great story, and will be hardly noticeable(well, maybe for me) once you get used to it. Besides, it isn't always that bad, only the later ones are, mostly due to the fact that he is sick. Artwork aside, as I have said, all other aspects are superb. Never have I seen a concept as unique and creative as Nen. Character development is also one of the its greatest aspects. It also isn't your typical shounen manga where characters match power against power with the stronger one being the victor. Battles here are won by tactics and strategy, something that other fighting mangas lack. With that said, hopefully chapter 261 comes out already, because I'm already missing my dose of HxH for a long time.

such a kickass manga; a lot of people complain about the art
but the guy just has a unique style you either hate or love, and I love it
definitely one of the most original shounen manga's, he takes concepts and gives them a new spin; inspiring a lot of newer mangaka's
Highly recommended!

Good story, non-repetive and great action. While it have certain bad parts, the good parts outweight it. Not the best artwork but not bad artwork either.

The thing is, once you've read a part of this manga you won't care much more about the artwork being great or bad. Because this manga is great.

A series with a lot of thought behind it, opposed to more standard shounen series. The entire world feels much more fleshed out than others too, the entire NEN-system for example is really a prime example of this.
The Ryodan arc to this date remains my favorite, a really wel planned and executed storyline where you honestly care about the villains as well as the good guys. No overpowered Gon or Killua, just Kurapica who sacrificed himself to grow even stronger but only for one cause. Really superbly done.
There's a lot to be said about Hunter X Hunter, the manga is really a rough diamond to be honest. Which is all too obvious with the excellent execution done by the animation team of the anime; all the potential it has really shines then.
Its true that the manga-artwork may seem minimalistic, but at the times Togashi really puts an effort in his drawings he's definitely up to par with other shounen-manga. Its an aquired taste I suppose, but the fact that this manga was quite influential to others in its genre says enough.
Give it a chance, try to look past the sloppy art and pacing at times; and you might discover what people see in this slightly underrated series.
