Viz taking over scanlated manga?

I heard from a friend that mangahelpers.com is trying to sell their site to viz and make money from them the scanlators. I was wondering how other people feel about this o.o and especially scanlator groups
If something like that were to happen, mangahelpers will lose its credibility which will make it less populer (now is the best days 🙂 )
Since many foxes are waiting for a chance like that, some other websites like mangahelpers will pop up.
So, nothing changes for the fans 🙂

Perhaps not, but the issue raised is all the scanlators hard work is being sold, and they're getting nothing.
I'm not sure about that rumour though...I need some evidence before I start believing things like this...
Erm..what? O_O
Who will be getting the money, the site or the scanlators? D:
Mangahelpers isn't a group, right? They just host manga. And those aren't even their scanlations. If anything I think many groups would be against it. >_>

Another version of Tazmo?! Great. Making money off of the hard work of others. If this happens, MangeHelpers will be completely destroyed because nobody would host their work there anymore. Most likely, this is just a rumor and will turn out to be false.
Never doubt your reasons.
Never doubt your cause.

I call bullshit. Why in hell would Viz want anything to do with mangahelpers?
Your friend needs better (or at least more plausible) imagination.

Actually seems pretty factual to me. Granted i've seen the evidence flying around unlike the lack of imagination that you accused the "friend" of having pnyxtr.
Have a look yourself: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LUMLXMWK
And if you can't open docx files (you need office 2008 or something else that does), here is the content of one of the files in the archive linked above: http://freetexthost.com/0mx2pnuhpw
So yeah, considering the evidence above, i'm gonna go and say screw MH.
Enjoy.

God I thought you said mangatraders.com 😲
Manga helpers suck if they sell to VIZ (viz, really?)! That's a site that would be nothing without the users, they're obviously you-know-what's! If it's even true.
And why would viz want anything to do with non-official manga editors, the ones the "industry" claim to be making manga sales go down down down? Unless they just plan to get rid of all the sites content, oh that'll be good.

I saw what's in that file out there... and... WTF?!
that's really all I can say... MH is bent on selling u out and even becoming a Manga licensing company themselves? Just WTF is up with this?
This is worse than tazmo =_____=
and thanks for hte freetext link... can't open .docx .-.
that only solidifies everything in that document there... who would've thought MH of all the organizations... frankly, it's disgusting.

...It might be better to look at this from the perspective of them selling the market.
What they're really trying to do here, if that is, in fact, an authentic document, is pull a crunchyroll and go legal by selling the site. Because of the massive copyright issues, they can't really sell scanlation access through a licensing company (tazmo is somewhat underground in comparison), but all the same would be in a perfect position to make a nice bundle of cash and simultaneously serve as a market for Viz to utilize online.
I'm doubtful that Viz would really follow through here... I suspect they're running into financial problems at the moment. If anything, I find it more likely that, now alerted to the issue, they might try to shut down the site's distribution. Or maybe not. I'm not a professional.

I don't understand why viz should pay for that. If they want to do an ashamed act like stealing other people's translation, why pay mangahelpers.com? Viz could just download and use the scan for free.

If you look at the megaupload link's contents, you'll see that MH is trying to monopolize it's huge following in the scanlation scene, and to eventually gain enough financial stability to start purchasing their own licenses. And why wouldn't Viz consider this? It's good business venture, you're finally tapping into a huge and potential market, this means maximization of profit.

I did read it. And that's basically what crunchyroll did- if you recall it had subscriptions up for fansubbed content for a while before they made the switch, and following that aired simultaneously released legal subs. But it was a private investment, not a big company.
You can also make the argument that they've already begun to tap into the market with their online magazines and whatnot. Utilizing a separate venue may not seem as profitable a venture for them, especially if they'd have to pay large sums to buy it. Again, I'm not an economics specialist or any kind of professional, so as I said to begin with I could be wrong shrug

In the long term perspective of things, VIZ can reel in tremendous profits, (as will MH of course) and that will be the biggest factor. Also, MH plans to buy licensing rights for some of the more popular series so scanlations can continue, and raws, distributed. All for some fee or the other, of course, the only free thing being translations. They plan on offering plenty of money making services and even explicitly state that they will be the single dominating entity in this new market. Essentially, this will cause the downfall of scanlation as you and I know it.
