So what kind of quality do you prefer (if at all) for your scanlations? This obviously alludes to the argument between speed scans and HQ stuff
And I prefer HQ. I have the patience to wait
Question: Is scanlation quality important?
Choices:
Very. I like my manga carefully done and perfect - votes: 1823 (15.5%)
I prefer it good, but I won't complain about tiny details - votes: 8115 (68.9%)
As long as it's readable it's fine - votes: 1511 (12.8%)
I don't care, just give me more releases - votes: 297 (2.5%)
I don't read scanlations - votes: 39 (0.3%)
There were 11785 total votes.

I preffer good quality, I can't stand to read yellow pages, which you can't even read.
Although I'm picky, I can stand good quality that lets you read clearly.. but if I see folded corners (only corners) I won't really mind, as long as it doesn't hurt my eyes.

I'm not really that picky on quality in manga as I am in anime but I still have my standards.

Second option. Doesn't have to be perfect, just good enough to be read. I have standards, but they're not that high to meet.
I do prefer HQ scans but when it comes to series like Bleach and Naruto I usually read the first one out. Speedy scans though not the best are often better than nothing.

I would love to have the first option constantly, but since I was once a cleaner/typesetter, I know what a pain in the ass that is.
So I just went with the second option, because as long as the text is readable and big enough, and all of it is translated, and the original text is actually erased from the bubble(Refer to Some of the middle chapters of Skip Beat! - I had to skip several chapters because they were all yellow, the text was too small, and the text was layered over the original jap. text.) and the page isn't any other color then black and white, I'm good.

I picked the second option, but it actually does bother me when those working on the manga can't seem to take the time to straighten out the pages. I mean, it takes, like, three seconds to do that. Hardly an unnecessary waste of time.
Not REALLY that big of a problem. Just kinda bugs me. 😛

I have high standards. But if its a series like One Piece D.Gray Man or Junjou romantica, quality doesn't matter as much.
But I do wish that a group out there would go back and redo the old scans at a better quality. 🙁
I voted for the 3rd option; if the scans and editing aren't perfect it's ok.
It's nice when a group works really hard for everything to look professional, but ultimately I just want to read good manga, and have the scanlators focus more of their time on finding new series, making sure the translations are good, and releasing things regularly.
If I need it to be beautiful before I read, I'll touch it up myself XD
That said, there's definitely a line between managing time well and simply being lazy. It reflects badly on your group if your work looks like you just don't care.

I have patience, a lot of it, I only read speed scans for those weekly shounen series...
But overall, quality is important, my pet peeve is underleveled scans, they get on my nerves~

Yeah HQ scans are important for me in order to enjoy reading manga.
Not too long ago, I started reading Psyren because I found it interesting and the art was okay too. But I dropped it because of the LQ scans. I would also like it if the scans of Negima were more HQ.
Edit: I see that the latest scans are HQ. Maybe I pick it up.

Quality of the translations is more important to me than having the pages utterly clean & perfect.
I don't read Japanese so obviously I can't compare the original to the translation, but when I read a page and think, "Wait...what...?" and then re-read and it still doesn't make sense... 😔 A little Engrish I can handle, but I will stop reading if it's excessive.
As long as the pages are reasonably clean & readable, I'm okay with it, though of course it's nicer if they're really clean & pretty.

Like TofuQueen, for me, the translation is the part I care most about. I know there are plenty of series I enjoyed reading far less than I should have, and eventually just gave up reading, because the grammar/spelling/translation itself were terrible. I can deal with less-than-great scan quality (crooked/un-greyscaled/blurry/grainy/whatever), since I figure if I really want to appreciate the artwork I should buy the book... but a bad translation can ruin an otherwise great manga. It's just too sad!

Second option.
Grammar mistakes, confusing sentences and inappropriate fonts irk me. As well as gutter shadows and over/under leveled scans.

First option.
I seriously cannot read things that are poorly scanned...
For some I am willing to compromise, especially for the long running series, where some chapters might lack the quality (I wouldn't drop it because of a few chapters...)~
I can even get over poor translating if I get the main idea. (although it just causes a headache...)

Yeah, that could be great...
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I prefer good quality, but I'm fine with quality as long as I get to read the stuff.
