I can't believe what is happening in London at the moment. This riot which started out to be a some what peaceful protest has just turned out to be now mindless violence of vandalism, looting and arson

Ah so someone finally mentioned it on here.

I'm wondering whether any other country has been told about this. I'm interested to hear the response.
As for myself, I've been following up on it through various different resources, tending to stay away from the news as that gets repetitive and they're not up to date half the time.

But yeah, awful stuff. Getting way out of control.

It's heartbreaking and terrifying. I'm hearing accounts from people that live in that area that are just too terrified to do anything. This is apparently a result of the frustration of the youth in the poor areas because of the economy and partly because of the youths' lack of education.

Sigh. I'm watching a live feed in BBC news. It's ridiculous there.
Also, I'm following this thread full of UK users that are pretty much updating every minute: link

I know I searched for a topic on her about it and I was shocked to see no one was talking about it. I am pretty close to London so I know a lot about it. I am also watching the bbc live coverage of it at the moment. I am pretty shocked actually.

I'm pretty shocked that this has been going on since Saturday and I haven't heard about it until today. Are riots really frequent in that area or something?

It started in Tottenham and they have not had a riot with in 25 years since 1985. I am shocked that no one even heard about it yet the Vancouver riot which was over a bloody hockey game got so much press and coverage and was heard about a lot quicker I think.

Truly extraordinary speech by fearless West Indian woman in face of Hackney rioters

This rioting only makes situations worse, why don't those people understand that? Yes, you're angry. Don't freakin' take it out on other people! You're ruining more people's lives this way! More people are now without their businesses, their possessions, houses, etc. God dammit, this is frustrating.

@the-burden: Wtf. It's probably because Tottenham is less well known than Vancouver :\

Bless that person I completely agree it's so mindless. Like you said these are peoples lives they're ruining peoples buissnesses homes and even historic building which people admire and are proud of. I am also worried because of the London Olympics and what sort of impression we are giving off to other countries. I know that I would want to show off my capital but if it is not safe in London then what sort of an image are we sending out.

I knew some of those building as I've been to London a few times.
It's still pretty clean compared to how it could've turned out.

But this does remind us what people are like within when the
revert to state of nature.

Nevermind. I read up on what's happening some more and answered my own question.

It is disgusting, and will only hurt people. It won't gain anyone anything. Nor will it gain the deceased justice

Seems similar to the LA riots in the early 90's.

Quote from Aeylis

I've been keeping an eye on it... But I'm curious as to what is causing it? I've been gone over the weekend.

Was it an economic protest that turned violent? Political protest? Anybody know?

It is just mindless, and fairly disgusting

Originally there was a peacful protest against the police about Mark Duggan who was thought to be wrongly shot by police. The people protesting did not get answers then it escalated to a complete an utter mindless riot. I will say now it is no longer about Mark Duggan and is just now nonsensical violence.
