Of all the people I've met who are into manga or anime, at least 25% drew sketches of some sort, fanart and what not. It'd be really surprising not to find any people on her who do.

Actually though, I've never met anyone who actually wrote manga though, like the comic style format, besides me. It's just curiosity.

I love drawing manga. It's so hard just do draw pictures without any stories. But does any one else feel like that/

That's because making comics is really hard and most professionals work as a team to get it done. Most people who do manga have some one to do side characters, another to do backgrounds etc etc. To seriously draw a comic would require tome, skill and knowlege, none of which is easy to come by. That probably explains why most people here don't do it.

That said, I always have a backstory to the characters I draw. It makes it easier to undertand what they would wear, how they would stand, what their expression would be. And it just makes it more interesting. I want to make a comic one day as a hobby but as off yet I don't think I quite have the skills in drawing (mostly perspective and backgrounds, anatomy is pretty good.), the knowledge of comic layouts and techniques, nor time. But I hope one day, as I'm not gonna get better if I don't try, right eyes

Lol, I do backgrounds on the computer, (the perspective part) but yeah it's hard and I'm not good at it. Not all mangaka use assistants though. Like the guy who does Yuyu hakusho and hunterxhunter refuses to use them. And doujinshi artists will do stuff on their own, or form groups. I draw a lot just to try to raise my skill level. But I read Bakuman recently (it's by the two that did death note) and it's stupid but I was so inspired. I was just like "omg my passion for doujin is burning ablaze."
I'm kinda embarrassed to say it. -__-;

side note: I'd love to see one of the assistants from Naruto do a manga. One of them, who does background characters, draws even better than Kishimoto. (well I think so)

True, but if you did that you would have to be outside of most deadlines, otherwise you would never get it done. I think the skills of the assistants would have to be amazing because they are both proficent in skill as well as being able to match the main artist's style. But then drawing isn't the main component of a comic, it's the story, and without the main artist, their isn't a comic. If I did a comic it would be manga styled because I prefer that style, as well as the flexability of comic conventions and uniqueness of story telling that is found within that style. I'm not a fan of marvel or DC style, and though I concede the creative genesis of the works like Sin City, Sandman etc, I just don't find it as attractive nor as understandable.

You do backgrounds on the computer? How so confused
Do you work traditional or Digital for main componets?
I think I would go completly digital simply for the ease factor.

Read Scott McClouds "Understanding Comic". It's a cool book that is easy to understand. Also try to actually study the style you plan to use, probably in this case, manga. And I'm not just talking about reading it. You need to understand it. Look at how the artist uses panels to tell the story. For instance, using a black background for the panels to go on is a common convention when a backflash or dream is happening. It help seperate and distingish it from the main story. Text, flow, characters, expression, backgrounds, mood, you need to have a good grasp of these, how and why they work.

Next comes actually competency, so practice drawing alot. Make sure you know your charcters back to front. Make sure to write a script and plan, otherwise the comic will seem disorgainised and it will be unlikely the reader will understand. Be creative. Make sure not to use the same perspective all the time. Try to change the panels shapes, text bubbles, text itself, drawing style etc to make it interesting and to help tell the story. Remember that is the point of a comic, to tell a story.

Paint?! Really? Extra cudos for you then. You are pretty good, and if you keep practicing you will do well. I'll comment on your DA page because there are a couple things I could mention, but obviously you will be restricted by programs. Photoshop would work better, but digital art isn't easy, it's painful. But practice really does make perfect. Ever notice the change in style in a long running manga. The artist usually gets alot better. I wish you well.

Sometimes when I feel like it. Art isn't my best skill and I have to erase millions of times before I'm satisfied. laugh Drawing anime males is the hardest compared to girls, their hair is too hard, I never get it right. I'm not terrible, but I'm not the best either xD I prefer writing fanfics than drawing a doujin.

Yeah paint is pretty convienent to use esp. for peopel like me who ae not so tech-savvy.lol But I'm learning to use some simple programs so I can add screentone to my art-to give it depth and all.
ps, your art is decent, just keep practising!

example of a comic strip i did on paint;http://sorceressluna.deviantart.com/art/Mael-on-a-date-11359095 0

I'm making my own doujinshi but I've got no "fans" or time to really work on it TT_TT....creating interesting art is HARD.

Oh yeah i reccomend reading Marvel's Guide to penciling comics by Klaus Janson. Its incredibly informative in terms of explaining how to use panel size, gutter types and perspective in order for oyu to set a specific tone in your stories. Even if ytou don't like Marvel, I highly reccoimend the book, it was really helpful!

@nanichan: Not bad, but I did have trouble knowing which direction to read. Because Shojo dosn't always use strict panel borders, and is usually floaty and soft you have to be careful in directing the readers so the story makes sense.

On another note, maybe a should post something, but the only thing I did that was "comic" like is over a year old, so it's not that good. Maybe if I have time I'll sketch up something modern?

I'll have to look at that book, though I don't like Marvel, too restrictive and cluttered for my tatses.
