So, What do you think. This poll will collect data on both how many people watch Star Trek and which series is most popular.

TNG was/is definitely the best Star Trek series. eyes

But also Deep Space nine was sometimes good (the seasons with the dominion war).

TNG totally FTW... i don't think it can be beaten... some eps of DS9 were really good.. but the whole war and how it started/ended/was fought was really stupid.

Let me analyze why most people like TNG.

Well, TNG is the new version of TOS. It's totally different. With different weapons, equipments, aliens and such. Compared to TNG, ENT seems to be trying to copy the ultimate villain alien. ENT invented the Builders.
Compares to TNG, DS9 also seemed to copy, they invented the Pah Wraith{bad wormhole alien who were banished in a cave} and the Dominions with their master shape shifters.

Now, Voyager is interesting, I find most of its episode pretty good. But the Kazon are just corny and the whole idea of a ship getting lost is depressing.

And also, why is it that ENT and Voyager HAVE to have a Vulcan on board........

I hope no one gets mad at me.

I think in general the vulcan was just to spice things up ... and because of tradition kinda.. with spock in TOS, Data in TNG, etc..

I liked TNG because there was a lot of area covered. The series still had a lot of places it could go after TOS, lots of plot elements they could exploit, like current events, different morals, different philosophies and what not. The thing that made TNG awesome on top of this was the excellent philosophy behind the show and the well written dialogue. I think another reason it was popular was that it aired during the soviet union days, and had a lot of themes of peace and what not which really touched people.

Oh yeah, also, TNG contacted way more aliens than Voyager.....and TNG never even left the Alpha Q...... My god.....I hate the Kazons.....they got fungus growing out of their hair. Yes, you are right Monica, TNG got the whole philosophy thing going on. I don't don't about you, but it seems the Cardassians are like Nazis Germany and Bajorans are like the Jew. And then we got the Vulcan Logic V.S. Romulan Impulse. I'm sorry.

Err... oh, haha. That makes sense... when you have a TV show that's showing all these peaceful ideals... it makes a huge difference in how many people like the show.

I guess I really liked voyager because of the characters. They developed each quite well... and I was saddened that Kes had to be killed off (or enlightened or whatever) just so Seven could come and replace her.

wait a sec........Paris mated with Belana? How could a human mate with a Klingon.....the only redeeming thing about her is good teeth and not so much ridges....and smarter.

Ok, here's the thing. There's suppose to be only one it's-logical freak on board. Now voyager got Tuvok and Seven....

But I think the crew with the best uniform is Voyager.

I don't know why I never posted on this topic since I am a huge ST fan, but my favorite TV series by far is TNG. The reason that most people prefer TNG over any of the other series (and this is as per the book Captain Kirk wrote about Gene Rodenberry and the vision of the series) is because it really reflects Rodenberry's vision of how Star Trek should be.

It takes place in a time where there is peace on earth. People no longer fight over religious ideas since, as Cpt. Picard says in one ep., people are educated enough to know that there is no higher power watching over them from the sky above, and they only have themselves to rely on to make things right (not that having faith is not a part of this future - just having fundamentalist views). There is no more greed since they have replicators and holodecks and whatnot, and people instead of working for material gain, work to better educate themselves and learn more about the world(s) and people around them. Other cultures are studied for simple enjoyment; no longer are people ostracized for their cultural traditions, but instead are celebrated for their differences. And, most importantly, the main enemy force in TNG are the Borg - a race that wants to wipe out individuality and take away freedom to think for oneself.

I wasn't much into DS9 because of the entire Cardassian/Bjoran war - since the prime directive in non-involvement, I didn't think it was good for the Federation to be involved in their war, even though it was a mirror to Nazi Germany...it just wasn't fun to watch anymore...too depressing. bigrazz And I hated Voyager because Janeway NEVER thought about putting her crew first, which as Captain should have been her first priority, and she was ALWAYS breaking the Prime directive, which is very very bad in Star Trek World. TOS would have been really great if Kirk could have kept it in his pants. lol And don't even mention Enterprise as part of the ST universe. It doesn't exist for me and it was such total crap...just don't watch it.

@ares6 - Belana was half human. She had human-looking teeth

Edit: Oh yeah- and when people ask me what religion I am, I've always answered none, but if I had one it would be the religion of "Star Trek"

I never watched the Star Trek series. Only saw the movies with Shatner and Nemoy. After reading this thread I think I will watch the series now because if you guys all say it is good, then it is worth watching to see for myself.

So my question is....

Should I watch TOS or TNG first? I assume TOS is The Original Series and TNG is The Next Generation.

The original series movies with Kirk and Spock are classics, but the TV series is lacking, so I would recommend The Next Generation instead.
