Looking for a fairly serious manga about an obsessed gifted person, preferably an obsessed scientist or artist or musician who gets completely absorbed in their work. Should have considerable information about the character's work, the technical details and the emotional fulfillment (possibly frustration?) that comes from their work.

I'm looking for the sort of character for whom their science/art/music is kind of their religion... The manga has to have that element of almost reverent obsession. Basically, a person in love with something esoteric and abstract, instead of something material or human. smile A human love interest is possible, so long as it is clear that the human will never be more important than this subject that the main character is obsessed with.

Examples: A scientist obsessed with cold fusion; an artist trying to capture the essence of love; a violinist in search of the perfect violin; a photographer obsessed with capturing (and, therefore, understanding) the moment of death; a medical researcher devoted to finding the cure for a horrible disease; an alchemist obsessed with turning any metal into gold; a composer locking himself up while he composes his last opera; a sculptor obsessed with carving birds in flight; etc.

So! Anybody have any ideas? This is a weird request, but I hope there are some takers!

have you read osama tezuka's black jack? Its about a rogue surgeon who performs amazing surgeries and greatly treasures life, but charges ridiculous sums. I read many of the volumes recently, and its pretty badass.

Black Jack is the doctor Tezuka wished he could be, one free of the constraints of the modern rules, who can heal and help on his rules. He travels the world helping those who pay him, sometime those he takes mercy on, and always those who move him. Despite not having a valid license, he is still the doctor of last resort, the only man who keeps the reaper at bay. Sometimes though, he's the one who brings the reaper...
