So do you judge a person based on the manga series they read? Like...if I read Naruto, am I a Narutotard (or however you spell it) and I'm automatically stupid and a fanboy/fangirl? Or if I'm a guy and I read yaoi, and I gay? Or if I'm a guy and I read shoujo, am I not manly? Or perhaps I'm a girl and I read only violent things, so I'm a rabid girl who murders?

Anyways...discuss away~

Question: Do you judge people based on the manga they read?
Choices:
Yes - votes: 2461 (18.8%)
I try not to... - votes: 3985 (30.5%)
No - votes: 6641 (50.7%)
There were 13087 total votes.
The poll ended: August 1st 2009

No.

I've read loli and shota manga, and I'm neither a shotacon nor a lolicon.

I know people that have read much worse and aren't anything like what people think.

Judge them based on themselves, not their interests.

I try not to, but sometimes can't help it...but usually I don't.
Like, my friend may love Naruto, but she also likes Full Moon, and Tears of a Lamb. I love Shojo but also read a few Shonen series. You never know.

no way.

i personally bounce around all over genres.

read what you want to read and don't let someone ruin it for you if you really enjoy it.

No I don't because I know that I personally read different types of manga out of curiosity (like H manga) but i'm not some sort of mega pervert 🤣

I read lots of Shounen - does that make me a tomboy? 😔 Well i'm not anyway 🤣

I make a judgement out of personality. Sure, interests also help shape a person, but I think just judging someone on their manga interests is a bit limited.

Well, I don't consider it to be necesarily something negative. In example, if somebody likes certain manga I had read and rates it, I can probably tell more or less accurately what kind of manga that person likes, and therefore something about that person's personality. But well, that is taking it way too much into the other way, and I don't really do that 🤣

So, yeah, I do, and don't really avoid it, but in my own way.

Its like judging people based on their shoes. If they don't keep it tidy, you think "Oh they must be poor, lazy, etc." This kind of correlates to manga because, how can a shoe show a person's true personality/being?

So no, I don't judge people based on the manga they read.

I try not to, but if someone reads only/predominantly one kind of manga it's hard not to draw some conclusions (which may or may not be accurate) about the person.

i do... but i try not to do it negatively.

i figure, much like in music, movies, novels, etc, that if you tend to read a genre/mangaka/series that i like that we would have things in common.

which would lead into us having more to talk about as we share some common interest.i read just about anything while my mom sticks to mostly shounen-comedy-fighting manga. its nice enough to have people to talk about manga with but its even nicer if they like some of the same ones i do.

if you don't, its not a bad thing but i just don't understand what enjoyment or entertainment can be found in shota/loli/guro or other "extreme" kink mangas. those that tend to like them can be a bit defensive when questioned on it so that's where the negative comes in. or they try to force you to understand their likes. not cool 😔

other than that i'm pretty much am judgment free as some of the best manga reccs. came from people who read different things than me.

I pretty much don't because their are plenty of different types of manga out there, and so one person could like one manga but also like a manga completely different from the ones that they have read before.

I try not to.
But I tend to feel/be judgemental towards those who read only one type of manga and refuse to read anything else.
The shoujo reading fangirls and narutorats usually evoke those feelings...

I try not to judge people on what they read, but more on how they react to what they read, such as ratings/comments/posts about a certain series.
