My least favorite cliche is probably that the school idol has a good personality...... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhhh!!!!! I don't even need to say anything to make myy point here, but incase you need a run down. School idols(most popular girl in school) are always obsessed with themselves, are usually total slúts, and would betray anyone for almost anything.... I don't think most have souls, much less a personality.

My favorite manga that gets rid of almost all of the bad cliches tho.... AIKI, goodguy must always forgive.... bwahahhaha, winning depends on girl cheering, BWAHahahahahah. Must never kiill BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, wimpy protag BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*choke* gaakaafeehghahh I.... caan't.... breeeeaath x.x......

Btw its classified as a harem in a way.... but he mostly hooks up with girls that aren't even in the harem so.... don't know if that counts >_>.... most epic protag ever.... and frequently makes you question if the badguys are really all that bad <-<

I hate when romance shounen where all plot is based on relationship then it ends without clear ending. It just feels you could skip all chapters of this manga and read only first and last part.
I dont know if this is cliche but recently i read a lot shounen which turned out to be ending this way. In one word- dissapointment- mangaka dont know how to end story so he chooses to give calm, neutral ending which is usually crap.

well not all Harems are bad, i believe it adds more laughs to the Romantic comedy genera
honestly there are some bad ones too (where the main character is Cliched) like Shuffle

romance and shounen is possible but it goes to how comical or serious.
Remember in actuall "plays" their such thing as comical relief, 2 serious would depress the audience and if 2 comical its acceptable to romance.
Of course this all depend on the author, and me personally if an author can put more genre into a story it show how talented he is, obviously the story has to work out somehow.
MY one major concern and people saying evil guys should have great ego. I personally see that 2 bs i mean thats basically taking out intelligent and obviously you see those muscular henchmen right in every villian. They don't go that far, what i want is the villian can lose but not like sending 1 guy each time thats down right in mental issues.
Lol its a rant i know but all in all mangas and any other form of art/reading basically has no intelligent and just pretty picture and cool words.

well i sometimes pick it up again and then just skip the chapter he says it in (yes the chapter not the page)

I just want to say this as a hunter x hunter fan
hunter x hunter actually does have some of shonen cliches such as stupid naive main character (gon) with badass secondary character (killua). the power level is escalating, there is a tournament, and etc. But the author makes the ideas seem fresh. You don't even noticed the cliches unless you inspect. So therefore hunter x hunter is the best, you can't really argue against that.

In Midori no hibi the main guy (totally forget his name) chose Midori, the ending have the classic memory lost, but it wasn't unexpected, it was the hole reason she didn't want to come back to his body, there was not any hole, it pretty much end leaving you with all the answers. In my opinion at least, not like love and collage of the same Mangaka





When it comes to cliche, some one must have told it already but i hate it when the main heroin fall for the "Heroic" guy who did what anybody (decent) would have done in the same situation.

Also the hole damn, my body feels like led, i lost all that blood... BUT F...K YEAH, TIME TO KICK THE A...S OF THAT GUY I COULD'T EVEN SCRATCH WHEN IN FULL HEALTH!!!!!!!

Studies have shown that most people would not do the same as your typical shounen hero in the situations you're referring to. They would sit back and watch or look the other way.

As for being weak/coming back and kicking ass--there's a very real scientific explanation for some of these cases. Adrenaline. Not to mention it's very common for a power/ability to be activated only when the main character is in a heightened emotional state. That's a quality of the power. But again, it probably stems from Adrenaline being the foundation for most authors/producers when it comes to writing about humans tapping into anything supernatural.

-When no one dies, it pisses me off. At least lock the bad guy up or something. But usually, the hero "forgives" him and lets him run free to torture other innocent people or plot revenge.
-Harems. It seems the manga is only allotted a set amount of IQ points and that number is divided by how many girls are in the harem- the more girls the stupider (and more cookie-cutter generic) they all become (naturally the main guy is lacking in sense as well).
-Panty shots in every other chapter.
-Every villain is the "strongest". Stop getting my hopes up. When the hero defeats the bad guy and is all badass, don't make him get beaten to a pulp in the next chapter after claiming the title of the strongest. it's so mean!!!! T.T
-After getting a power-up, the hero reverts to how he was before or at least loses some power- again so mean!!!!!!! Stop teasing me! If he's supposed to be strong then make him STRONG, don't take it back!
-Evil guy appears -> beats hero -> training -> fight (repeat as desired) -> hero wins. I'd like to see the hero own the bad guy easily just once in a while- just to reaffirm how strong he is. It should be like: Evil guy appears-> PWN!!!! Hero is awesomely kickass! Not everything should be a dramatic struggle XD
-Stupid, obnoxious protagonists. Sometimes the main character is so hopelessly dumb, I feel I'll lose brain cells just by reading about him/her.

First, i was just making a reference to really low level heroic deeds, such as picking up someone handkerchief (not really that, but just and example) second, all my life i had tried to go with what my Grampa toll me, help people the way you want to be helped, i can swear you to God that people treat you like sh☻t when you help them rather that give a care
And third, if you have a broken arm you CAN'T break a rock you could't with a healthy arm, no mater how psyched up you are.

i understand what you said, and it make sense, but not so much if you take it to such an extreme

I just remember how much it piss me off when the Hero won't catch obvious things. Like true identities that are way to easy to figure out, or the sole mention of the sentence " I don't get it, what's going on?" after the whole situation pretty much explained it self

I couldn't think of anything yesterday but then I remembered something I wrote in a review. A guy having a girl best friend that's usually totally into him. It's not that this is by itself bad, it's that its so over done with such frequency it's beginning to piss me off.

Most guys I know didn't have a girl for a friend since they were kids. Even then, I doubt they were their best friends ect. I actually grew up with a girl somewhat close to my group of friends but still we weren't all that close throughout(most of the girl friends were more periphery, usually through school). I just don't think the numbers are adding up basically haha

But what really pisses me off about these things is how they just can't be bothered to have the guys be friends with each other. Seriously, it's starting to really bother me how friendships are portrayed in the non-fantasy ones.

Guess who is that girl?. And the final touch, they both go "Aaaaaaaaaaah", when they see each other..

-> evil person had sad past, e.g. his dad never loved him and took him to the amusement park
-> hero is so sorry that he hit evil person who in fact is a good person
-> hero and good person embrace each other and good person comes along or "travels through the world repenting for his sins" (the overly daramtic version, very tragic past only or evil evil evil person only)

I mean seriously not killing is one thing, I guess that's ok, but I sometimes feel the good guys are on a holy crusade converting all those evil guys into fluffy flowers -.-
