Genre(s) you used to like, but have grown to hate/dislike
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=17688
In regards to this thread!
Ehm, it's not really a genre, but I used to love reeeeeaaaaaaalllllllllllllllyyyyyyy long series back when I was younger. O_O Now, if a manga is over 2 volumes, I already find it a chore. XD But for the other genres, hmm, I don't particularly dislike any of them. O_O
I suppose I don't like Ecchi as much. More like, pointless Ecchi, I can't stand it!! D:<< It needs to have other areas where it succeeds in order for me to accept it.
Oh yeah, and I used to be open to BL back in 2007. But then all these crazy, wacko fangirls scared me off from the genre. x.x But now I'm open to it again. O_O~ My BL list is slowly growing. One title a three months! 8'D

I agree with your perception of ecchi, used to like it, now i don't really like it, got pretty tired of mindless fanservice.
Another genre i used to tolerate and now i can't stand is shounen, give me dark, character driven stories that can be considered realistic and i'm a happy person. Perhaps the only shounen i can tolerate is Angel Densetsu and Yotsubato! but that's because those are awesome!

Thanks for linking to my thread! 😉
Ohhh yes... ecchi. Actually, most ecchi stuff kinda really annoys me. It's not because it's blatant or is fanservice, just that it's:
- kinda draggy and is pointless. Throw in enough ecchi scenes and you could probably prolong a volume by half or more.
- it feels bland and has no emotions, no thoughts, no feelings, etc. behind it. It's just like most porn: boring, annoying and ... well, it's just exposure and sometimes, it diminishes the value of the characters because they keep lusting over one another and it NEVER ends and they just don't have the balls to really initiate much. That's why I prefer hentai or GL or BL.
- It's not even titillating, exciting, sexy or whatever. It's just people going like "Holy crap!!!! It's TITS!!!! Big sexy tits..." and i dunno, drooling over it like some castrated monkey. 😛
Majority of shounen...
I used to like them a lot but then I discovered better and more interesting types of stories. Mainly, I stopped reading most shounen 'cos they drag out a lot. FMA was actually not too bad but... mmm... I got bored after that part in that wintry parts 'cos by that time, many of the new characters were turning into clones. Naruto was only good for the first few arcs. HxH could've been interesting had they ended it soon but oh no... I sorta gave up.
Ahh and even Tegami Bachi might be turning into one of those annoying shounen series where they spend their time beating each other up... let's hope not.

One word; 'Romance' - I used to love that genre when I was 12-14 years old. Now I can't stand it 🤢
Especially those with love triangles/ love polygons! I'll only read manga with romance (BL, GL or straight) so long as it is mild, and not in the limelight more than once every 2 or 3 volumes. Any more than that, and no matter how amazing the rest of the story is, I can't bring myself to read the manga. I just find myself thinking; "Don't you people have better things to do (jobs, hobbies, spending time with family) than fret about your tragic little love-lives? Get a life damnit!"
In response to the discussion here; I've never read ecchi (you can probably tell that I can't tolerate stories which are written just to appeal sexually to the reader ^^)- so I couldn't say. Except that the only mangaka who draw such stuff are ones who don't know where to go with the plot, and are just hoping to hold the readers in through this so-called 'fan-service'.

Horror and shounen. Not that I was a huge fan, but at least had some interest. Even followed Fairy Tail up to 90~ ch.
Very careful with them now.
shoujo
I liked it but
got bored of it slmost every shoujo manga is the same --
I thought smut was okay but got sick of it. it was disgusting how most of them got raped and they fell in love with the rapist ==
excluding a very few shoujo that actually has some plot or is interesting ex. natsume yuujinchou
now I read shounen, josei, etc

I hear you say "Why?" Always "Why?" You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"

Probably shounen. The plot lines don't do anything for me anymore. I find them juvenile at best and just plain annoying at the worst. Not to say that there aren't a couple of shounen series that still hold my attention. FMA anyone? I've moved to seinen and josei. I find the characterization more compelling and the plot more realistic.

I used to be mainly a shoujo reader when I started reading manga waaaay back in the day. I don't HATE the genre now, but rarely does a story from it really grip me. Or if it starts off strong, my attention will fizzle out halfway through. I kind of switched over to more shonen/action/horror titles in my older age >_>

I agree 100%. Well, except the BL part.
Others that I don't read are harems and shoujo (Though shoujo is more like a demographic). With harems, it's literally THE EXACT SAME STORY AND "COMEDY" SITUATIONS, just with different character designs (And even then some characters look like an alternate-universe of a character from another harem manga). And I have yet to find a harem manga that's actually good and that doesn't drag out the plot because of the main character being all indecisive.
With shoujo, I read them because back then I didn't know what the different demographics were and manga was just manga to me. I used to read a fair bit of it, but then as I got older, I started to realize that the ones I read acted just like the harems (Same story, same characters), so I dropped those too.

Smut.
There, I've said it.
I used to like it.
But now I've seen the light. I've started reading actually good series. I've thrown smut away because I've realized it's just a big waste of time and seeing a girl get raped and like it makes me wonder why people even like it.
I still like shoujo though. I'm a sucker for romance.
But now I'm way more picky with manga.

Shounen, I guess.
I mean when I was little, I was exposed to stuff like DBZ, some mecha anime, and whatever would show on TV at that time. Those are the only shounen that I can be interested in nowadays.
But stuff that came later like Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece.. for me it's hard to find interest in action manga.
I've grown real girly since I was little so I stick to things aimed at the female demographic now.

Well, I used to soooort of like ecchi, but lately even the smallest of panty shots makes me want to puke. There's not really any reason for it.

Well, if you go with the concept that all "BL is all about sex, and has no plot", then I guess that works for you. 🙂 But there is BL with intelligent plots and well-crafted characters and so on, though.
Same for shoujo, though. It just takes a lot of sorting through to find something that suits your tastes. Immortal Rain and Knife are quite good and same for a ton of other titles. Or are you talking about the kind of "shoujo" that is just like quite a lot of "harem" manga where there's nothing but "love conflicts" and so on? 🙂
Harems... hmmm, I've read stuff like Ai Kora, a bit of Love Hina, Negima and a couple of others... mmmhhh they didn't really interest me too much though. It's good if someone enjoys it but I don't, so whatever. 🙂 Excepting hentai, I've no harem titles on any of my fav lists.
Though right now, I'm reading The World only god knows(less than 10 chaps read so far) which is labelled as a harem, I think. But it's somewhat easier to stomach so far 'cos the "relationships" move very quickly for now, so it's more like a series of "short-term relations" that are used more for providing insight into the protagonist and the overall storyline than for having a huge harem of women where somehow... the relations switch around so much, I often have no idea what's going on. 🤣
It's about time anyways... I kinda needed something fun and light-hearted after reading title followed by title about pain, suffering, death and the serious issues in society and the human race. 1 more damn title about stuff like that... and i'm seriously going to cry. 😛

Oh no, I said everything except the BL part because I don't read BL. 🤣

Yeah, it seemed like I kept running into those, so I just stopped reading Shoujo altogether.
