And the ammount of espers declining maybe it can be explained according to the family tree thing that appears in one of the chapters.

i seems to have understood that the sphere is teleporting mater to the aliens homeworld and that the legacy is a gene introduced by the aliens (human/alien hybrids) but is has to be used to activate the gene
