You like to buy special editions? I guess for the forum post, I won't limit it to just manga. How about special editions for anything?

"Yes, because it's fancy" - lol, that sounds exactly like something I would say.
And do...

Not sure about manga though, because I don't buy it.
But with books - definitely.

I went with "only if it has special features that make it worth it", but sometimes I might buy the special editions just for the hell of it.

No I'm not fussed about 'Special Editions' and whatnot. Especially not for manga.
I've seen them releasing Death Note Black Edition for example and I'm looking at it thinking who on earth would go and buy the whole series again, just because it's black.

Stupid.

Generally speaking I might consider buying a special edition of something if I don't already obtain it and the price jump from the regular to special isn't ridiculous, but buying it again for the sake of having it because it's a special edition? No.

I really don't care... I'm fine with the normal, cheaper versions.

Yes...

-Fancy stuff for my collection
-Who doesn't love special features?
-Being crazily overpriced is kinda bad... :/
-EVEN MORE likely to buy if it's a series I love

Sometimes it's good for anime and movies too. smile

Can't wait for Sailor Moon deluxe editions!!

(btw, Death Note black edition is kind of worth it for collectors if you want colour pages and bigger art, but I would think it's a better buy for a first time reader since it compiles 2 volumes in one book and is much cheaper that way).

If I consider the special feature worth it, why not? But it's not like we get those around here.

Only if it has some extra stuff.
Otherwise it is just as useless as The Very Best of insertbandhere.

I don't get "Only if it has special features that make it worth it". The reason why its named "special edition" is because it does have some special features that the plain old original does not have, aye?

Anyway I went with "only if I really love the series" and that would only be one and one manga only, One Piece.

Since special editions are usually more expensive then their regular counterparts I usually don't buy them unless they have some feature that makes it worth it. For example, remastered translations (if it's a re-release of an older series), lots of colored artwork, never before seen illustrations, that kind of thing. I'll also buy it if the regular volumes I own of the series are falling apart. There are certainly some series I wish would be rereleased, special edition or no. . .

Out of curiousity, though, do omnibuses count as special editions? They are collections of many volumes and usually include some sort of feature in them. Just curious because I didn't really get what was meant by 'special edition'.

No, what's special edition for? Regular edition's quality is good enough.
