Okay, I've been observing this site for a long time and I've got several suggestions to make

There are a lot of these new categories that are not helpful at all
for example, from Bakuman
there are these useless categories : hope, husband, smartphone??, wife, uncle. etc etc. what are these for? what are those supposed to mean? is the protagonist an uncle? who is a husband? who is a wife? this manga has a character that is a husband or a wife? so what? not helpful at all, and the most important category "MULTIPLE PROTAGONIST" is nowhere to be seen

vndb has very informative categories and description for each category. mangaupdates has way more categories and many of them are obscure, what is "take the blue pill" means? is that from the matrix? reset all progress? isn't that a major spoiler then?? please elaborate these categories to enlighten the masses.

Then there is the manga search feature. everytime I do search, all that pops out first are the doujin version of the manga, like full metal alchemist dj, considering the release date that's normal I guess, but then I need to navigate several pages to arrived to the original manga page, while a search from google lands me right at the original manga

problem arises when I wanted to search for Id manhwa, the 2 letters title makes the search yields helluva results. So I inputted it's aliases or "associated names" in the search box and that yields no result.

well, to sum it up, the category and search feature is fatally flawed, please improve them biggrin

how to solve this: type name of manga in search box ---> "helluva results" ---> look below, find Other Site Sections/Search Series = [title]/for = [manga name] ---> Go ---> voila (better with Ctrl + F)
i found id within 2 clicks XD

edit: if i remember correctly, we once changed the search box from searching releases to searching titles. and it was very inconvenient none

Quote from deathbypenguin
If you find a category you don't agree with, than you have the option to down vote it.

Well, I've always thought that giving a minus vote is for situations when a category does not fit the particular manga, not when the category itself is stupid.

I agree that there should be more specific categories and less general ones. I think that in Bakuman "wife" is redundant because there's "marriage" already.

About the categories with weird names, if it's difficult for you to know what they mean, you can always ask people from the forums. And if nobody knows what it means, you can ask for it to be removed, I guess.

Thanks guys

yeah there is down vote for categories, but it doesn't prevent for more useless new categories to keep popping out. I don't think the feature for adding new categories should be accessible to everyone.

I mean it's getting ridiculous, popular mangas now already invaded by these obscure categories. Sket Dance for example, despite having "student council" category, it also has : Student Council General Affairs Manager, Student Council President, Student Council Secretary, Student Council Treasurer, Student Council Vice-President

sorry to deathbypenguin, but I can't believe these are useful to anybody. student council category is enough, no need for the jobs sub-category. Sket Dance has a lot plays within a plays anyway, I think it's just matter of time before they add Genesis, Hyperion, and Tanabe-kun categories biggrin

@mewman
Yes that works, but having hentai doujin to pop out first isn't really a good publicity right biggrin
and the search feature only search the :
titles, mangakas, scanlating groups
I say add aliases too

btw, Sket Dance is super awesome biggrin

Unfortunately, crappy categories crop up sometimes. If you find one, you can request that it be removed either with the request form in your user CP or in the categories bugs thread. The staff will decide whether or not the category should be deleted (or merged with another category--that happens sometimes too).

If you aren't sure about the category because you don't know what it means, try Googling it first; then if it's still unclear, you can ask on the forums, like Hanae said. I think there's even a category clarification thread for exactly that kind of question.

As an aside, I think voting the category down is useful, because when a staff member is looking through categories, a high number of net negative votes helps the category stand out a little, and thus it's easier to find possible bad categories. So, if you find a bad category, please vote it down.

will do that lynira

but there's too many of em, it's maybe easier to just leave em alone

but when I've got time and will, I'll filter em out
