i've been noticing this quite a while...and decided to ask one thing...
Why the hell someone ever rate manga 1 or 2 points?i mean...if u hate it THAT much ....why did u even started to read it in the frist place?=| i mean...1-2p is kinda EXTREME option to me...imho there is just NO manga as bad as that....it's like u were disturbed to the point u were throwing out or something...u just opened the frist page and went straight "Oh GOD!It's just terrible!MY EYES!11!!1"
sorry...just can't understand that thing...
P.s. though i've got a theory that it's girls downtrating ecchi on purpose, just for sole "ecchi" part

I don't think I've rated anything 1-2 (actually I don't remember if I've rated manga here at all...) but I would certainly consider it if the manga started out good or at least ok and then the story totally went to hell, characters started doing things that were totally out of character & didn't make sense, etc.

never saw such extreme plot twist that would made me go "omfg!"...Medaka box for tops....started as nice shounen with solid romantic plot but turned out some weird, exaggerated fighting manga...and still i wouldn't rate it as 1-3...it's 7 ATLEAST for the oneshot try...

ya i dont think ive ever rated a sereis a 1 or a 2 either (maby 2) but what i also hate is when people always vote mangas to be 10 i mean i hardly ever vote for a 10 unless i loved it or it was 1 of my favorites (only 1s ive ever rated 10 was Onani Master Kurosawa, Kimi wa Pet and of course One Piece although rave, akumetsu and ares are close)

Main reasons for the majority of 10s in ratings and 1s in every manga:
- People hate it or love it to the extreme
- They want to feel that their rating makes an impact
- They disagree w/ those that rated it 10/1 and want to balance it

This just seems like a rant.... But personally I rate manga with a 1 whenever I feel like it wasted my time.

And it's impossible to know whether you'll like it or not if you don't start reading it.

well as i understand it....it must be so extreme hatred that it's not likely that u'd even start to read something like that...u've read the summary right?it's impossible not to grasp the general idea of the exact manga after that...unless it's REALLY shallow...or cliche,but still...u must know what to expect atleast a bit,especially with the Tag's system...
I'd rate something 1 only if it was the worst possible scenario for me...some whiny-gender-bender-sports-shoujo or something...so ....why would i want to read it in the first place?I don't get it...
I don't rate mangas i don't like in the slightest...because it's just unfair....if i didn't like the manga - it means it wasn't written for me...it doesn't mean it's bad,it means it's just for another audience...
I mean for example...To Love-Ru Darkness ...it's a sequel..so surely it's for ppl who've read the prequel...and they know what they are going to find there...and that it wont change in the slightest from the prequel...so where are those "1" came from?=| or is it some ppl went "wtf!it's STILL pantsu and ecchi all the way?!"it's just suprise me...

Well...u have a point there...but for me ..when i read some good manga,i can't really judge whats 9 and whats 10...coz if i really like it - it overwhelms me..and in the exact moment i've read it - i rate 10...after that..after some thought i sometimes change it..but rarely...plus the numbers of titles makes it almost impossible to choose the favourite...

people usually just avoid genres that they don't like. even if for some reason they skipped the summary and didn't look at the tags, i think more people are likely to just drop the series and forget about it, than go and rate the series down. when people give reviews along with their ratings, they don't say things like "i'm giving this series a 1 because i hate ecchi and think its disgusting. this series sucked".
I think ratings in general are hard to debate because everyone has a different way of rating. Like I remember reading someone's review of the series they gave a 10 and in the review they were complaining about how the story could have been better. To me, if you have complaints about a series it shouldn't be a 10. I think a 10 should mean the series is basically flawless, has everything you like, leaves out everything you hate, and it really touches you somehow.

Well as i said...i totally agree with u about the avoiding...thats exactly why i am surprised about the whole thing to begin with...
About the 10 with complaints...well...u know...half a loaf is better than no bread)can't be too picky..)we are not in japan..)

To start, not all series have summary.
Second, a summary is just that ... its NOT a review.
Besides series change, I liked Mahou Tsukai Kurohime until the whole Time Travel Arc and after THAT revelation I dropped it, the same happened with Ga-Rei after being Yuri'd so what are going to say now?
What you are saying is absurd, its IMPOSSIBLE to know if something is good or bad by a summary or a bunch of tags and just because I enjoy, say, gender bender does not mean I will enjoy EVERY SINGLE gender bender series in existence ... I read Akane-chan Overdrive so should I enjoy the HORRIBLE ENDING?
Oh and I dropped AKB49 in that page were it said "bigger that the Beetles" ,,, no, no J-Pop band will be bigger that the Beetles ...
What part of "Please do not put in huge images!" did you fail to understand?

Pissing people off doesn't help in a discussion >.<
but still I agree, even if I dont like something I always rate it, why?
- These ratings are also useful on your public lists, it makes it easier for other people to find something good, in case they use this way of searching new mangas
- Logically voting should be average rating, meaning:
each_rating*chapters_with_this_rating/all_chapters=average rating
considering the reader is wise enough to stop when it starts sucking (or a short while after), then those 1 ratings would be impossible (and 10 too mostly), excluded you were truly misguided by the summary, tags, categories AND cover and upon reading your brain bursts due to extremely bad plot and art (but then again you wouldn't be able to rate a series with a cracked-open head right?)
what pisses me off more than all thos 1 ratings are those over the top 10 ratings... Seriously, I bet half of those who voted 10 for a manga don't even know the exact content anymore...
so sadly I have to agree to FormX, but I think instead of hating or loving a manga it's just exaggerating, especially when you finish a good manga you are quite emotional (I think/hope)
