Hi! I just recently joined here. I saw some scanlation groups posting ads for recruiting. I'd like to know the job description for each position, i.e., typesetter, editor, scanlator, cleaner, etc.

And also, I'd like to have an idea how this whole thing works (work flow)?

Do you guys get paid? Or is this just a volunteer work?

I'm just curious 🙂

We don't get paid we do it for free. for fans by fans that's our motto.

basically it works like this

translater makes an english script (meaning he must know jap or what ever he translates from)

-> gives that to the proofreader

proofreader corrects the script typos, grammar ect (meaning his english must be really good, really)

cleaner take the raws and clean them (if u dont have a very good english or know a foreign language that is the first job u can learn)

-> cleans are finished script is finished

typesetter take the cleaned pages and the script and put in the text (this would be the second job you could learn, this can as well be trained like cleaning)

so if u wanna help out i could promote the group i am in or give u the advice to look when reading the series on ur watch/follow list which groups is searching a lot of groups do take and train beginners (like we do)

it is way more enjoying to work on a series one likes

my advice would be look at the quality of the work the groups publish (if u can)

else have fun

most groups dont get paid ur ask for donations, a few groups ask for donations and even less pay sth for the work, but mostly as mangalover21 said it is done for the fans till they can buy the volumes in their own language or country
