For a short while I stopped playing League of Legends after going into an Xbox phase and let my friend borrow my account to try it out my champs, but I'm back and was wondering how this community felt about the game. I'd really like to find some people on here who have my common interests to play with since it seems that every person I play with either does not like manga/anime or just doesn't admit it in a group setting, which is pretty stupid to me, but that's a whole other matter. Anyways, tell me what you guys think about the game or maybe if you aren't playing it anymore or don't like it, what game do you think is going to be the next big thing?

For a little background info to people that aren't familiar with the game. It is consistently the highest watched game on twitch.tv. I believe last year, forbes named league of legends the top played online game with whatever millions of users/hours played. Just recently they have established an actual competitive league where they are paying teams to play in a season format like a sport would, so that's pretty big.

I love the game and would play if I could, but my current computer doesn't permit me to (10-15 fps just doesn't work). Can't really say what game would be the next big thing though. The reason why League of Legends is so popular is that it caters very well to casual players and is very "watchable". By that I mean due to it's competitive nature, the game is pretty interesting to watch as opposed to mmorpgs, which generates interest among the audience. The self-contained games (no "end" game) and social aspects (I play because my friends play) also promotes longevity. Due to this, it's extremely hard for most games to attain the same level of popularity, but you could try finding games that have some of the same qualities.

If you just wish to socialize with people that like anime/manga while playing a game, it would be best to go with a popular game with an anime type of art style. Off the top of my head, Dragon Nest and Rusty Hearts fits but they don't have comparable playerbase. On the other hand you could try games with a big playerbase already like Team Fortress 2 and Guild Wars 2. If you don't mind music games, Osu! has a high anime/manga playerbase (most of the songs are jpop and touhou remixes).

I have an account, but I haven't played it in a while. The game is really enjoyable and I need to get back into it. Didn't know that it had such a small amount of anime and manga players.

Besides League of Legends, a few of the other online games I play are TF2, PSO, Defiance (was in the second Beta), and a few others. Try running around a game's forums and see how much people talk about anime and manga there if your interested in who plays the game.

As for the next big thing, who knows. The game, Defiance, that I mentioned earlier has gained some following because of the developers stating that the events in the game effect the outcome on the TV show. That is the only current game that is still in development that I know of. Also, I thought that WoW had a bigger player count than LoL.

While I agree with what you're saying about lol, I'd like to add that what promotes league over other games of it's genre is the company, it's releases, and it's participation with the community. Although the community is widely regarded as one of the most toxic by even the members themselves, the irony is that as bad as it gets, you almost love the game too much to hate it. I was sort of hoping to find out what people here thought about things like the timetable on release of champs, amount of bugs if any that are too annoying, the almost entire disbandment of lore creation, etc. rather than core facets. Thanks for the recommendations; I'll try to check out the games you listed, although I'm feeling pretty picky at the moment.

@Transdude1996
I don't want to say that it has such a small population of anime/manga fans but more rather that it's hard to find them myself. Some of the people I know personally that like anime are fairly introverted and that's something I try to keep in mind when I get all up in someone's business if they don't want to talk about themselves the first time meeting and all.

Since the biggest way for me to add friend's on there besides pestering my personal friends to start playing is to add after a game, there isn't much time or depth of conversation to really promote adding as opposed to simply who did good that time. I feel like if I find people with common interests on here or anywhere else and then make friends on the game it would be a better method than just adding who I played with and expecting them to fit my view of who I'm looking for, you know?

Also there is the issue that I don't mind playing with people in a much higher or much lower skill level as long as everyone tries not to rage and just have a good time talking on skype or whatever. I myself was at 1300, then my friend fell to what turned me into bronze 4, and I've climbed to Bronze 2 which is pretty sad I think it's harder to climb now compared to the elo system, but that might just be my own confirmation bias. Either way I'm exactly at or near the top of the bell curve at the moment and that's ok for now.

You might be right about wow having a higher player count but league did in fact almost double the hours played last year. Here's a link if you're interested: http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2012/07/11/riot-game s-league-of-legends-officially-becomes-most-played-pc-game-in-the -world/

Don't double post, the edit button is enough to add what you wish to say. While we are talking about toxic community I have to highly disagree, if you want to find a toxic community look no further then the playerbase of HoN or heroes of newerth, played it for a bit and I instantly got repelled by the people there and went back to playing LoL, plus a I know quite a few people who read/watch manga/anime and play LoL. I think it is a good game albeit a little time consuming with Ip gathering unless you want to use real cash.

I was just giving my 2 cents on what to look for in games and not really discussing LoL's popularity.

If you want to play a game for the sake of socializing, pick up a rpg game then. In rpgs, you can actually talk with people via ingame chat without any repercussion to gameplay (no "they ganked me while I was typing"). It's also a lot easier to find people with common interest by looking for guilds. You can usually tell what type of people are in the guild based on the name (eg. my guild in vindictus was called ~itadakimasu). Strangely, it's better to find games with a smaller community because there are less chances of meeting toxic players and the people who do stay tend to have a greater attachment to the game and will try to make the game a good experience for everyone.
