We are looking for the following:

Translation

• Translate manga from Japanese to English.
• You should have a good knowledge of both languages you are going to work with.
• You should be very experienced reader of translated manga, and have a good understanding of what quality standards are required by manga readers in the particular language.
• Please tell me if you're OK with mature content (BL too)

If you can do TS/QC along with TL, feel free to tell me that! We will pay on a per-page basis, so if you can do more, of course you will be paid more as well. This is freelance work, please note that. 🙂

Questions about typesetting:

1. Are pages cleaned or with text removed?
2. What software do you prefer to be used and what format do the finished pages need to be?
3. What types of manga are you going to be publishing? (There are some antiquated laws in our area that could be problematic for editing manga that is yaoi/yuri or mature as it can be classified as manufacturing pornography.)
4. What is the turn-around time you expect per chapter?

1. We give plenty of time for our translators. We usually ask how many volumes (about 150-200 pages) the translator can do in a one month, and assign the jobs so the workload will be comfortable for the translator as well. If you can do more and we have enough work to offer, you can do more! 🙂
2. We will pay on a per-page basis, and this will be negotiated with each worker separately. UPDATE: EU citizens: IBAN bank transfer. Others: Bank transfer or PayPal.
3. Unfortunately, I really can't answer to that. At this time, we are mostly doing one volume series, but that may change in the future. We are trying to publish a lot of different style of manga. Plus, usually we are only localizing content that haven't been localized before.
4. It's freelancer job. A big mistake on my part to forget to write about this in the first post, I'm very sorry about that! We are trying to get new titles all the time, and hope to have a many of them for our workers (that's why we are recruiting new people!).

1. Usually, we receive manga with a separate text layer, so there's no need to clean the dialogue by hand. Sound effects are a different thing, but only the smallest ones need to be cleaned completely.
2. You can use whatever software is the most comfortable for you! Most of the typesetters are using Adobe Photoshop though. Format is .png.
3. We are trying to get all kinds of manga, but I don't see this as an issue. We don't expect to be working on anything that's over NC-17 by American standards. Still, if something like that would prevent you or anyone else working on that case, we don't assign you on that job, but something different. 🙂
4. It will depend on the case. We will ask how many volumes the typesetter can do in one month, so it will be comfortable for him/her to work without any deadline pressure.

Sorry for the bump, but I just have to inform you that we are currently looking for new French, German, Spanish & Portugese translators (from Japanese), typesetters & Quality Checkers. Please check the opening post in this thread for more information and requirements about the job.

We still might need few more JP->ENG translators as well, but the competition is high. If you sent me a work sample before Christmas and have not heard anything, most likely we just haven't checked your work yet. If you're worried about it, please feel free to email me and I'll try to dig up the info from our own quality checkers! ^^

Lastly, I want to remind that these are freelance work, not any permanent kind of position.

I'm Portuguese and I think I can make the QC in that aspect. Also I can make from English to Portuguese Translations.
Also I can edit manga scans is there any position available?

Yeah, it's great way to ask general questions here, so like you said, other people will get that same info too if they have been thinking about it. ^^

Currently we are searching translators who can translate directly from original Japanese source, so the translation will be more accurate in that way. So no, unfortunately we are not currently looking for eng->other language translators.

I would like to know more about what you mean by editing manga scans. We are looking for typesetters in those languages, and typesetters will insert translated content into manga with image editing software, like Photoshop for example. Of course you're free to use whatever software you are most comfortable with, but you need to output the final manga pages as .png files.

I think you're qualified as quality checker if you're interested, but please send an email in that regard then. You only need good knowledge of the Portuguese in order to notice if something is wrong or little funny in translated content. 🙂

When you ask for a sample of our work, what exactly are you looking for? An entire transcript? The raws versus the scanlated version? The raws plus the translated portions?

Anything is fine as long as we see your skills. For example, if you're typesetter, it's better to show few pages of completed manga that you have cleaned and done. If it's translation, it's better to show something with original language as well, so we can see the quality of translation.

It's nothing too strict, really, we just want to see how good you are! If we think your sample is not enough, we might ask you to do some small test for us as well. ^^
