i wonder why most ppl just want selfish powers that will generate them fame/money

what a sad world we live in

i personally do not really want a super power
i would not want to hurt or exploit anyone even if it is accidental
and what if i for a moment would lose control of my temper and killed someone
or if i could heal someone...would i not be turned into a spectacle or be locked in some secret labs so that my power could help some corrupt leader?
or most likely been taken by greed and only helpt those that could afford my help
no thank you

God I'm slow these days to follow up with replies...
And no, don't think that I'd start rethinking about my power to be super speed, I don't want that one. Time manipulation I'd be better off with, but just as long as it doesn't get confusing as f***...

@Aremon
Basically, I don't really like magic that's pretty much capable of doing so many different things, be it with or without a supposed limit. The super powers I brought up are meant to be specific and have specific purposes, as they can be effective and ineffective in different situations (like ability to fly/levitate will help save someone falling from a building, yet will most likely be of no help in saving people trapped in a completely submerged sinking ship), hence making it a somewhat difficult to choose from all the specific options one can think of. Power absorption's arguable as for being somewhat similar, but unlike magic that can do so much right from the get go, power absorption requires the individual to go out into the world and somehow find other individuals with their own unique powers, in order to copy and obtain them for their own uses. Clearly, that shit aint easy to pull off...

@galbatrox
Power absorption's always been something I'd consider to take instead of mind control/"brainwashing." My only concern with it would be whether or not a limit's involved, like as if I'd have to start swapping out certain powers, or "forget" to use them entirely unless picked back up from the original person with said power(s). That, and somehow having powers that conflict or overlap might be an issue (like having an invulnerable body would probably make regeneration pointless to have, or telekinesis trumping the ability to move metal/rocks/solid objects in general).

@aagcnet
Yeah, pretty much what I said as well. I'd take it over power absorption because if other people have the powers I'm looking for, I can "befriend" them and utilize their powers whenever needed, so long as they're around/near me.

@dasnik
Sounds like ur looking into a combo of shapeshifting and regeneration (for the immortality bonus). Just run with the human shapeshifting, rather than supposedly having to commit suicide every time just to change your form. Whatever your real age may be, I'd assume that you can still take on the appearance of anyone from 1-100 regardless.

@TaoPaiPai
We already discussed how most of us would probably lay low, not trying to grab the eyes of the public + government... So you didn't really to contribute anything to the discussion... meh...
And just to point out something u may have not noticed:
There are powers that nobody would be able to tell u have, so long as u don't expose yourself. I'm think mind reading would be a good choice for that.

1. Every time I'm asked this question I always answer the same way. I want to have the ability to conjure/evoke/create whatever I imagine. And I know that is sounds cheap, but seriously it's not as OP as you'd think. Really in order to use the power I'd have to focus and visualize whatever it is I'd want to do, so it would be useless while I'm sleeping. Also, I'd have no defense attacks I can't see coming (invisible or sniper). But other than that my only limit would be my own imagination and I have an insane imagination.

2. Screw good and evil. I'd probably just go about my own life normally except with the added convenience of everyone giving me a wide berth. I'd be the first one in line, I would always be able to find a seat and I'd never have to pay for anything again. Oh, also I'd pick a fight with every major world government and see where that gets me.

3. Second choice would be a regen ability like Wolverine's as in no aging, no disease, and accelerated healing. Basically complete immortality unless someone is really determined and creative.

I don't really watch movies and shows with superheroes and what not... but...

1. Similar to your desired power of Brainwashing, I would like the power of persuasion. Persuasion is somewhat achievable in real life for very charismatic people, but the type I'm thinking of will work 100% of the time.

(brainwashing requires a specific instruction, but persuasion is more like planting a seed of thought in someone's mind. I cannot make them forget what they already know, but I would be able to push them to think in new ways.)

2. Strangely enough, I'd use it to try to make sincere relationships. One thing i've always wanted to do was to persuade people around me to never lie to me--and I would do the same in return. I would probably end up using it to fight crimes and what not (lololol)--maybe I would go on national television and just hypnotize/persuade all watchers to be caring/loving/kind like Gandhi or something.

3. Alternatives are... Elemental powers (such as having a body that can turn into water or fire), Protective Barrier (it'd keep me from getting physical injuries), or storage powers (such as being able to store food/clothes/objects/certain living things inside a deck of cards) biggrin

1) I'd like a power similar to Phil Conners (Bill Murray) from Groundhog Day, except the repeat would be the beginning of my life to the end of it.

2) I'd abuse the hell out of this kind of pseudo immortality at first and then try to figure out how to live a perfect life.

3) My second choice is shape change. Being free to live as anyone or anything has great charm. Third choice would be multiplying myself. I like myself. I did not pick these as first because I am a bit obsessed with that movie.

1. While still living in this world, what unique superpower would you like to have?
I would like the ability to change the percentage of luck a person has. I want to see their number percentages floating above their heads (like Deathnote biggrin.) I would be able to change 50/50 to something like 20/80, 45/55. Number on the left is good luck. Number on the right is bad luck. But because I have this superpower, my destiny is set to be tragic and I only have a limited time on Earth before I vanish (in 100 years.) I will no longer be a physical being, but something similar to a ghost.

My back story would be that when I was 35, I lost my job, home, husband/wife, kids, and was about to commit suicide. Sitting there drunk in an alley way, with some poisonous liquid I was about to consume, a sketchy fortune approaches me. Since I have nothing to live for, she offers me a tantalizing offer. Sell my soul/life to some evil demon, and gain this power. (I love cliches, btw.)

2. Now that you've obtained your superpower, what do you plan on doing with it?
Luck is statistically 50/50, I would like to change a person's luck percentage to anything I want. Downside is that I will not control what good/bad thing falls onto their lap. I just want to be that being who gives someone a little push. They could find a dollar on the floor (good luck), they could lose their job (bad luck.)

3. What are a few other superpowers you'd choose, and why did you choose your unique power over the others?
I simply want to watch humans and push them in different directions. Like a Demigod. For the other Superpowers I was considering, they seem a bit more hands-on.

Other Superpowers:
- Invisibility (self explanatory)
- Super fast speed (like The Flash :3)
- Brainwashing. I will mentally manipulate a person's will to go the way I want. They will believe they chose to make that decision.
- Powers like Dr. Fate from DC.

While still living in this world, what unique superpower would you like to have?

The ability to go back in, forward in, and freeze time.

Now that you've obtained your superpower, what do you plan on doing with it?

I would try to prevent major human-caused disasters. I would probably start by killing various fascist politicians. As long as I can turn back time I have endless attempts and if it doesn't turn out well I can just go back again and try to do something else. Basically, I would try to remove or neutralize people who cause a lot of suffering while making as little change as possible.

I would also look for major serial killers, prostitution rings, ect. This is where the ability to freeze time is really vital, since I can catch people in the acts and conclusively establish guilt.

What are a few other superpowers you'd choose, and why did you choose your unique power over the others?

Night vision, probably, just for practical reasons. Other than that, I wouldn't want anything else. If I controlled the weather I could theoretically try to prevent natural disasters but I have no confidence in me ever learning the nuances of those type of powers. I would hate to have something that made me stand out, like wings. I actually think its best to be normal, so ideally I'd want nothing at all, but I guess if I was given a unique opportunity to have magical powers bestowed on me it would be my duty to try and do something for humanity. I'd try my best to keep it a secret identity, though. biggrin

I think their basic point (that people are wanting these powers for selfish reasons) stands tho. I mean, if you think about it seriously, having a super power would be a huge once-in-a-universe opportunity to... do anything. Contribute to science, change the world, save lives. People are thinking small scale and, yeah, just passing up that opportunity is kind of selfish imo. Anyways, I wouldn't say they didn't contribute to the discussion... that was kind of a mean thing to say...

Simply, "Regeneration". Preferably Wolverine style. Would never have to go to the hospital again to get stitched up after brushing my elbow against a wall.

Ehlers Danlos syndrome is a bitch.

I've thought about it a lot, and I believe what would fit me the best is soul manipulation, which would basically consist of… manipulating people and moving their/my soul(s) out of a body. In a normal world, I don't really feel the need for anything really supernatural, and this is the only power which would guaranty my life through mind control and immortality. And I'd get to change my body ( though not the way I want ) which is something I'd really like to do too, so I believe it's the best one I could make out, though it might be considered more than a single power.

If not this, then I guess manipulating matter and the shape of things, and I guess I could make myself immortal that way, shape my body like Envy and use alchemy like Edo ? biggrin
