Hello everyone. I actually have been mingling with Categories for quiet a long time. (actually since I became an updater in 2011, because my reason for becoming an updater was to add some categories to one manhwa that I liked)

It is very awesome tool. But it has some flaws here and there, because basically any updater can add it and oftentimes people just disagree about this categories. You have down vote for that, but down vote doesn't affect anything. When you look into categories it isn't even quite obvious that it was down voted, smaller font isn't just that noticeable, especially if category has an extremely long name.

So I have a few suggestions, how categories can be enhanced, as well as some suggestions to enhance search by categories.

1) If category has a lot more down votes than up votes, then you probably should hide it not under "Show all", but rather under a new button "Show down-voted". Of course category shouldn't go there right after first down vote, but lets say if it has 5 more down votes than up votes, then it gets hidden.

2) Clean up bot, or special search for admins, that finds those down-voted categories. Though I suppose it should clean up not only those who have 5 or more into negative total of votes, but also the ones that stayed negative for weeks (because unpopular series are not likely to get even 5 votes, but you probably still do not won't to misguide people) I'm not sure how easy it is to do the bot or special search, because i don't know the structure of your website, but I'm sure it is doable, I can even write a bot myself, which would browse your site and find all this stuff, would be a little to high on internet traffic though, so I would prefer to refrain from that. =)

3) to Advanced search by genre, add a second list, where you can exclude Tags/Categories. I really need that one, I often find myself wanting to exclude "Collection of Stories / Oneshots", because I won't to read a stand alone long story, but I can't do that with current search engine.

4) also add an additional Option for categories/tags with following options
a) Include all
b) Exclude mostly down-voted (the ones which have more down votes than up votes)
c) Exclude if has at least one down vote.
Last one might be not very obvious, but for some categories it makes sense, like if it is arguable if this category applies you don't want it to show up at all.

5) Add a special button to be able to mark category for deletion for admins (which would require a text field where updater should specify reason). Because I can delete my own if I have accidentally made them, or if I changed my mind. But if somebody else adds a very misleading category, then I have to use "Request Change", well I can continue using it no big deal, just special functinality would speed up the process a little bit.

So that's about it. I wanted to ask, what other think about such changes, and how hard those would be to do? I can give some general advice on how I think it should work, if there is some ambiguity. It is ok if it is in technical terms (I'm a software developer after all)

No.3: Type in "- category X" or "-Collection of Inter-Linked Stories" in your case and they will be excluded. All search function have such features and the one by MU is pretty good when compared to library software standards.

Well... Then they probably should make it more obvious, though I admit that I forgot to check if MU search engine is done with some standard solutions...

Doesn't anyone thinks about it anythint at all? Or nobody cares that much about categories? It is just that I want them to really be a guide, but as it stands now it is really easy to vandalize them, and almost impossible to fix the vandalism without asking admins to do that theough a very generic form...
