Best way to describe the first is that the people that enter and leave the MC's life is almost like a revolving door. The characters the MC ends up having the slightest relationship with are best described as acquaintances than actual friends. Those that come somewhere close being described as a friend eventually leave the MC for some reason (Excluding magic and death). And, those that are/become the MC's legitimate "friends" actually stay with the person because (1) they actually have a deeper reason to than "We are nakama", or (2) because they hate the person the least in comparison to every other individual they've ever met.

The second one is where the place the characters reside, whether it be a house, ship, planet, etc. is actually sentient. If you want an example, I'll point to Moya from Farscape.

For the second request: The Harlock Saga fits nicely. Only some of the manga series have been scanlated though, like Uchuu Kaizoku Captain Harlock and Nibelung no Yubiwa. The anime series have been completely subbed, I think.
