Yay~, I was the first one to vote.
And I'm with you, I'm already learning 3+ languages in school. No way I'm taking another one.

Well....
I wouldn't say anime has got me to learn Japanese, but it definitely helps me improve it a bit.

Manga has inspired me to learn Japanese, but I'm already learning Chinese for a different reason.

I'm in the same boat as Gan- I started learning really basic Japanese before I was interested in anime/manga (well, before I distinguished them as anime/manga anyway) very much. I ended up using it as a tool to help myself study and became addicted.
I'm moving to Tokyo in January though, so I should probably be practicing more and reading manga less >_>...

Don't worry about it.... once you're there your brain will go into overdrive and combined with the basic Japanese you know from school/watching anime, you'll learn new stuff in no time. Watch the news as much as you can when you get there (dunno if you get NHK on cable where you are now) to pick up formalities and such.
I was surprised how easy it is to speak Japanese.... but reading/writing is beyond me, I'm afraid.
You mentioned moving to Tokyo.... is it permanent or just a short stay? Word of advice:- the amount of cash you have saved up now, regardless of how much it is, ain't enough....

I'm staying for at least 3 years, possibly longer depending on job market/how much I like it. It's for college (classes are in English), so I have access to sources I wouldn't normally have (student loans, otherwise frozen savings accounts, etc), otherwise I know full well that what I have saved now would never be enough -_-;;.
I'm honestly not all that worried about the language outside of more official procedures that involve reading on some level (bank account, cell phone, etc.). My kanji literacy is still pretty weak. I've been to Tokyo for a month before, so I *think* I can handle the basics.
I actually do get Japanese news and a couple J-dramas at random times in the day, it's just a matter of learning when it's actually on and watching it (it's not NHK, the network also airs chinese and korean shows...). Considering most of the political terms and formalities I know I learned from raws + a dictionary, I think I need to work on that a bit >_>.

Mind mentioning them?
I really like linguistics, any job that would deal with it would be awesome. I can currently speak French (Quebec) on top of English (duh). I would like to learn Japanese, but my only option at the moment is self-teaching, which does crap for me. A friend of mine is teaching me a bit of Korean, a couple of words and phrases here and there.

Dutch, but that doesn't really count since that's my mother language. French, English and German. I could've taken Spanish too, but didn't want that. o__o

Wow... if you were a pro football player, transferring between UEFA clubs wouldn't be a problem.

I've been learning Japanese on my own for 5-6 years, off & on, and while I've learned a fair bit, I'm certainly nowhere near fluent.
One of the biggest helpers has actually been watching j-dorama, since it allows me to hear (more or less) conversational Japanese with subtitles.

How about a flat no?
Why are there always tag ons at the end of poll options. Flat answers would suffice.

This. But there is no option in the poll.
