does anyone have a clear idea of what exactly happened towards the end?
Spoiler (highlight to view) who did he end up marrying, and who were those two twins at the very end?

Given how interpretive the ending was, I can't say for certain. My best guesses:
Spoiler (highlight to view) -The twins were probably supposed to represent Nyuu and Lucy. -He probably married Yuka, based on how his daughter looks, but anything's possible.
Honestly, I liked the anime's ending better. I thought it was more fitting, even if it left a lot unresolved.

Quote from Crenshinibon Honestly, I liked the anime's ending better. I thought it was more fitting, even if it left a lot unresolved. I feel the same, which actually very very rare for me. I usually don't go for them because it isn't the original story, but man, the anime moved me. The ending was just so perfect. I would say the manga as better for middle though.

I also agree that
Spoiler (highlight to view) kouta married yuka but as for the twins i think
Spoiler (highlight to view) they were more of a reincarnation than just a representation because in the note was from kaede (one of the twins) directly to kouta and it talked about things that only kouta and lucy could know

@icecold: Not really. The story has a different ending and ends at the end of the Mariko arc (iirc). That's what, around chapter 50? I still think it was better though.
@bajuwa: Maybe. It depends on whether or not they were actually real and not just figments of Kouta's imagination. Hard to say, really.

I reread the ending because I thought I was missing something, and I think you're pretty much correct (I should probably be a bit more thorough next time, eh?). She mentions that "there are twins she plays with", but she's already facing the direction Kouta turns around to. What's weird is that she refers to herself as "Nyuu", which makes me wonder if the twins represent Lucy and the "destroy everything" personality instead.

I more think that the twins were reincarnations of some sort; one having the persona of Nyuu and the other of Kaede. His daughter called herself Nyuu cause that's most likely what Kouta and Yuka named her, which isn't too surprising.

I also preferred the anime ending as well. It kind of leaves with an open-ending (the anime), but it was pretty clear what happened. I don't know what the right word for it is, but it was artistic, poetic? Spoiler (highlight to view) In the anime ending, Wanta starts barking at someone who is at the door. We never see who it is, but the silhouette looks like Nyuu (Lucy). Before he can see who it is, the clock goes off. I think it was symbolic to represent Lucy coming back from what we originally might have figured was her death since throughout the anime Nyuu was always trying to fix that clock. And I like the last line. It was something like, "It's working" (referring to the seemingly broken clock). I just like the way it was done. I guess it's artistic or something along those lines. The manga ending wasn't bad. The only thing that really bugged me was that guy (the guy who was originally sent to kill Lucy) coming back to life. It happened a while back, but I clearly remember him being ripped from the waist by Lucy. And didn't he die in the arms of Mayu? I mean seriously, how the hell did he miraculously come back in the last chapter? I think he should have just stayed dead. It's a little too much for him to come back to life.
Other than that, it wasn't bad. The twins thing was a little confusing, but after rereading it a few times, I was able to come up with the same thing other people wrote (the twins being the reincarnation of Lucy). It wasn't bad, but I still preferred the anime ending.

i dont think they would be a reincarnation of nyuu, (because she is like living on as kouta's daughter) but probably one kaede and one lucy.. hopefully..
le sigh, i was hoping for an ending where: instead of lucy melting and going crazy, her and kouta bang and shoot out babies like there is no tomorrow, creating the super race which will dominate the world. at which point lucy can then do the cliche anime/manga laugh, where she puts her hand near her face and goes "ho ho ho ho"...
yeah just my imagination making a b-line towards insanity.

You're so right for the first part. Too many people survived in this manga.
I didn't like the ending at all, I don't know why but it gave me a sort of Mahoromatic feeling (died person come without any logical sense to life), it looked like a too naive ending for a manga like this one. And I also didn't understand nor like the part about Anna on the island. Also, okay the twins could be the reincarnation of Lucy/Nyu? But, why? From where they come?
It's a pity, I'm gonna give this manga "only" a 9/10, while it could have been 9.5 if the ending wouldn't have ruined the amazing cliffhanger ended in chapter 106.
PS: The grave where Nana is crying. Whose name is written there? Thanks to anyone who will answer.
Quote from bajuwa I also agree that Spoiler (highlight to view) kouta married yuka but as for the twins i think Spoiler (highlight to view) they were more of a reincarnation than just a representation because in the note was from kaede (one of the twins) directly to kouta and it talked about things that only kouta and lucy could know
You're right for the first spoiler, but you're wrong in the second spoiler. The note has been placed there by Lucy when she was a child, you can find her doing that in chapter 35, page 143. She was called Kaede at that time I believe, that's the only explanation, 'cause her name when she lived at the orphanage has never been mentioned. Even the reference to the stone (where they usually met) and the wedding ring (the jade stone that's good for making rings that Kouta gave her I suppose) make sense only in this case. I suppose that the twins have the same name of Lucy/Nyu when she was still an "innocent" child.
Quote from Juicifer i dont think they would be a reincarnation of nyuu, (because she is like living on as kouta's daughter) but probably one kaede and one lucy.. hopefully..
Uhm, I didn't have understood that right the first time I read it, but now I see your point and you basically are saying the same of me. Basically you mean that the two personality have been reincarnated in two different beings, one as Kaede/Nyu and the other one as Lucy. But so you're thinking as me that Kaede was the name she had before when she lived in the orphanage, right? I only don't think that Nyu is living on on Yuka-Kouta's daughter, Nyu is just a fictional name they made up for Kaede/Lucy. Did you also notice that one's smiling but the other one not? This could give more credit to this interpretation.

I don't think there is a Kouta's sister reincarnation (Kanae, not Kaede!), and I can't see why she should be incarnated as a twin of her murderer. Also they died in two different times.
There is no Kanade. There is Kaede.
Kaede is the name written at the end of the message left in the bottle. It's been left there by Lucy/Nyu when she was a child (chapter 35, page 143), so my supposition is that Kaede was her name when she lived with other children in the orphanage, because nobody at that part of the story ever called her with her name.
So Kaede simply represent in my mind the name of the kind personality of Nyu before she had been overtaken by Lucy. So to me the twins are Kaede and Lucy's reincarnations (a good and a bad one, in fact one's smiling and the other one is not smiling).
