Weird title for the thread, I know...

So, how do you use those Japanese words you learned like kawaii or moe? Or do you even know them at all?...

Question: Do you use any anime/manga related jargon (eg, tsundere, yandere, kawaii) in daily life?
Choices:
Yes, everyone around me use them - votes: 284 (2.7%)
Yes, but most people around me don't understand - votes: 1498 (14.1%)
Yes, but only when I discuss anime/manga with other fans - votes: 2502 (23.6%)
No, but I understand the terms when someone else says them - votes: 5124 (48.4%)
No... What do those words mean, anyways? - votes: 1180 (11.1%)
There were 10588 total votes.
The poll ended: November 29th 2008

If the discussion demands it...I'm the only person I know in real life that knows most terms not often used like Yangire, etc...I wonder if I should be happy or sad about it? 🤣

I know them. I don't use them.
I never use random words of languages I don't know. (knowing some words, and some slang doesn't count 🤣 )

I do sometimes say "kyaa" to myself, and when I read manga and see words I know I say them in japanese in my head sometimes~

Oh, lambs, 3333posts... What a strange number~ 🤢

Sure, I know them. I'm pretty sure a few of my friends do, too.

But I think using them in normal conversation is ridiculous. (Partially because the person may not be aware of the details of the language. If the grammatical structure--hell, the complete structure of the language itself--is not anywhere close to Japanese, then the use of the words in English sentences probably won't be correct anyway. And then there's the entire issue of connotations...)

The only reason someone should start interjecting random languages into phrases of their native tongue is if they're trying to honestly learn the new language, in my opinion.

(Or if there just isn't a real English translation of the word. For example, I see no problem using "shounen-ai" or "yuri" or what have you in conversation. But I can't help but cringe when I hear a high-pitched shout of "KAWAII!" or "YOU BAKA!" )

I know them. Don't use them except when online. My friends would go "What the hell did she just say?!?" >_>

I use them rarely... and in that case, it's with people who know what they mean and were using them first. I'll just adapt to the fact that they're using them. I'm never the first one to say them, though.

The exception being with my Japanese teacher. When she's around, I use as much Japanese as possible, big surprise there. Being the total addict that I am, I've actually been able to teach someone from Japan words they didn't know in Japanese.

facepalms

Oh and Swan remarked on it too, but I simply adore how many posts lambs has now. Tee-hee~

Ditto what NightSwan said. When I was 15 maybe, I'd teach myself the kanji for "baka" and write "kawaii" on the doodles I drew during class, and so on (still, I don't think I would actually speak the way I wrote). Thankfully I grew up a bit and realized how very silly that makes one look. But it does help me try to be more humble and forgiving for those who are 15 now. They can't help it, the poor kids...

And I have to confess, I "kyaa" to myself on occasion as well.

no, never say them. At least I don't. But yeah, I've read enough stuff to know what they mean.
