For those of you wondering why the site looks different today, don't clean your glasses or throw out this month's contacts. Yes, amazing as it might seem, we had a site update today!
This one is a long time coming, and caps off the final changes that were started in 2018 for MangaUpdates, including the adoption of Docker, our UTF-8 conversion (seriously), switching our search to Elasticsearch, and finally this responsive web design. There are several things planned and in the works for 2019, so stay tuned.
Please let us know if you find any bugs with this new site template in the [sitelink=topics.php?fid=3837]Suggestions and Bugs[/sitelink] forum. I'm sure there's something we missed. Thank you for helping us test it over the last week!
Another poll I came up with myself since no one suggested a new one within the last week.

Don't drink and drive
I came up with this poll on the fly because I don't like any of the recent suggestions. I also tried tequila for the first time recently for the Lunar New Year.

Question: Over the years, has the kind of manga you typically read changed?
Choices:
Now I'm reading more stuff meant for the youth - votes: 219 (5.3%)
Now I'm reading more adult, mature stuff - votes: 1804 (43.3%)
Stayed about the same - votes: 2147 (51.5%)
There were 4170 total votes.
The poll ended: February 9th 2019
For those who changed, it totally makes sense that you lean more toward the mature topics as you get older.
The idea for this poll was suggested by BlackOrion many years ago, but I've adapted it slightly. Ideally this would have more choices where you could pick multiple sets of options, but I opted to keep it simple. I was thinking of putting comedy vs. serious in there too, but the way site polls are conducted don't really aid in that kind voting.

Haha, I should've removed all those weird, old systems. Oh well... I am really surprised that MacOS has such a low showing. And those TempleOS votes are just trolling
This week's poll was suggested by Transdude1996. It's pretty similar to something we did back in 2014, but oh well. I'm a PC gamer, so Windows gets my vote.

Compared to 10 years ago, we have more people will always love manga. Looks like we weeded the rest out.
Karonhioktha suggested that we do this poll. It's the exact same poll that we did slightly over 10 years ago (off by a week). It's our version of the 10 year challenge. Although now we get like half the number of votes in our polls... That's what happens when you don't offer download links or even links to the group's site anymore.

I dislike rain. And it rained for most of the week here in Los Angeles.
This poll was suggested by StarlightDreams over 7 years ago. Why do all these weather conditions end with -y? This doesn't deal with temperature. It's just the weather conditions.

Dang, the majority of you have voices for your characters! I personally don't imagine voices for what I read. But if a movie comes out for it, subsequent re-reads will involve me thinking of those voices. Prime example is Harry Potter, as I read many of the books before the movies came out, but now I always have the voices of each actor in my head.
This week's poll was suggested by 8-3. When you read manga, do you "hear" the voices of the characters in your head? Maybe that mentor wizard sounds like Liam Neeson. Maybe every upstart youngster sounds like Naruto. You decide! It's your head!

Women's pants suck since they generally don't have pockets.
This week's poll was the second one suggested by Desert. Do you have any opinions on series where the main character disguises himself/herself as the opposite gender? Just as a side note, one of my favorite authors as a teenager was Tamora Pierce. Several of her book series feature female protagonists who disguises themselves as male to perform tasks in a patriarchal society (i.e., become a knight).

Fun fact: the only Korean song on my iPod nano is Wedding Dress by Taeyang
This week's poll was suggested by Desert. I guess we really should've done a poll about J-pop first, but I feel like K-pop is more popular.

Quite a lot of people in the comments were disheartened by the number of people who didn't know about Osamu Tezuka. I'll admit that I didn't know him by name, but I did recognize many of his works. But I haven't actually read anything he's done...
