Known for Mangaka Zankoku Monogatari, his works were an early influence on Adachi Mitsuru.
As a young kid, Nagashima dropped out of junior high school and started working as a paperboy and a tofu salesman.
He eventually became an assistant to TEZUKA Osamu after living in Tokiwa-sō off-n-on. This lead to his publication of Mangaka Zankoku Monogatari, which earned him recognition in the manga world.
In 1956, he formed a coterie group with AKATSUKA Fujio, ISHIMORI Shotaro and SUZUKI Mitsuaki.
Died on June 10, 2005.
