Dragon Ball
Storyline: 10/10
Every anime/manga fan is familiar with the story of Dragon Ball. Goku’s quest to collect the seven magical Dragon Balls, the battle with the Red Ribbon Army, the World Martial Arts Tournaments, the wrath of Piccolo. Volumes 1-16 are a combination of comedy and action. Volume 17 is where the series takes a turn to science-fiction and becomes more serious (yet still keeps its comedic charm). Goku discovers he’s really a space alien who was sent to Earth as an infant to conquer it. This leads to the sagas of Frieza, Cell, and eventually Majin Buu. Dragon Ball has a classic and flawless story that goes through many arcs throughout its 500+ chapter run.
Characters: 10/10
Every character in Dragon Ball (whether they be a protagonist or antagonist) has a likeable charm. From the leading characters of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, to the rather obscure characters like General Blue and Guildo. And only a person with no soul could hate the Tournament Announcer.
Artwork: 10/10
The artwork in Dragon Ball goes back to 1984 yet still looks exceptional. Everything is extremely well drawn. Nearly every character in the Dragon Ball universe can be recognized by silhouette, which is saying a lot considering how many characters there are. Akira Toriyama’s art style is instantly recognizable, more-so than any other mangaka’s.
Overall: 10/10
Dragon Ball is arguably the most inspirational manga ever made. It’s obvious when reading Naruto, One Piece, and many others. It may be possibly the most well known manga, but is it the greatest? Well, in my opinion it’s certainly one of the greatest that deserves all the recognition it gets. Anyone who calls them self a manga fan should read it. And don’t worry, it’s much better than the anime adaptation (no annoying filler in every episode).
Well.. the art work isn't really good but it is from 1984 so... the story tends to be interesting sometimes but it is always the same: there are, mostly son goku, strong characters which encounters stronger enemies.
The same thing happens over and over again, the "heros" kill the bad guy, well, elian, some get killed and then brought back to life, then another, even stronger elian comes, kills the heros which are brought back to life.
Of course evry thing is as it "should" be: the bad guys are deffeted and peace is restored to the worold. Well, for a few episodes maybe^^.
O, and when someone goes like"This fight will end in 5 minutsshows 5 fingers" this is streched to at least 5 episodes.
This is the first manga i've ever read. Maybe because i was young, but i found it to be extremely addictive. And i agree, this is a manga that everyone should definitely read.
However, after i've read alot more manga since then and i have to be objective, and this serie definitely doesn't deserves a 10.
Your review is good, but you could've written alot more. Your rating is off the charts however.
I do understand why a lot of people overrate the manga in the review though, simply because you won't write a review to begin with if the manga hasn't left a deep impression on you (normally).
this is a biased overview. Dragon ball Z's plot, character development, art are all 3 out of 5. The plot is repetitive, the characters are lame and always come back alive, and the art is just poor.
