Alright so I just binged this after the past 2-3 days, it's a'ight.

It's a cute story with some laughs and lots of smiles. The idiot ball mostly isn't a factor in the story, although towards the end around chapter 100 it is a big part during one event which was really annoying.
Character-wise it's actually pretty good. Most of them are well-written, I think, my favourite being the elder brother who was introduced in a cool way and is consistently pretty well-written. I also end up really feeling for a few of the secondary characters: Hasuki, Char, Maru and the predecessors of the MCs.. because they're written well and with some realistic feelings. Though I would've liked some chapters on them, but perhaps that's because I liked them rather than feeling justifiably unsatisfied? [I agree with reviewer tiamath that it should have more Juliet PoV chapters, hers were nice to see, especially pretty early
into the relationship where, like Hasuki, I thought she didn't seem as into it as Romeo so having the focus on her helped
]

The Touwa arc was really really well-done, I thought.

Unfortunately there are some few chapters where things happen that don't really make sense like their interactions with the wider aristocracy of the West. Or how willing certain people are to work together at times.
The manga does sprinkle in some gags that just completely do away with realism or break the fourth wall which makes the internal inconsistencies a bit easier to stomach overall, even when they shouldn't...but that's a thing where your own reaction may vary. There's a short cliche amnesia arc but thankfully it's only like 3 chapters.
Similar with the fanservice which pops up fairly frequently though not every chapter, it's rare enough and lamp-shaded at times so I end up feeling better about it.

I genuinely thought that the series was axed or something due to how much rushing happens in the last 2 chapters, however the mangaka specifically said this was not the case in his final afterword. It turns out the story was meant to follow the main character's growth as a person and when it had done that he simply had no more relevant ideas to give and so wrapped to an ending.
This makes sense as the story would've inevitably lead to shifting to one with a heavier focus on politics and political intrigue and if the mangaka doesn't want to do that, or felt that shifting genres so suddenly wouldn't suit the wants of the readers (I personally was really looking forward to it but...unlucky me) or that he simply lacked the skill in doing so (some flaws in these areas do become apparent as you read the series) then raelly all he can do is end things.
It does leave a feeling of dissatisfaction, though. To be clear, the following is the period of time of the characters lives the story follows
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Begins in some time during first-year of high school. The final 2-ish months are skipped over to jump to close to beginning of second year. Carries through to middle of second-year of high school.
Then the last couple of chapters skip
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the last half of second year, skip the entire third year, to graduation for a chapter. Then there's the epilogue that takes place years later

Still the series has pacing issues. I mean the characters don't show physical affection for unrealistically long period of time because the mangaka seems to feel like if something doesn't happen on-screen then it doesn't happen, which brings down the realism. Another thing is sometimes a character doesn't know how things in the world work so he can act as a vehicle for the audience.

Would I recommend it? Hmmmnnn...there's better stuff out there, I'm sure. But if you feel like you've actually already gone through the better ones this genre has to offer, I think this would serve as a decent second-tier series. In the end I don't feel so much like I wasted my time with it. There were chapters that could've been cut out, but hey serialisation is hard.

In reply to tiamath's spoiler complaint

they waited to get married because they're politicians and the earlier they got married to 'the enemy' the less tenable their political power would've been

It is a nice read, started id cuz i wanted to see the end after watching the anime. It's not serious yet not lame either. SOmewhere in between.
The negative is, it should focus a bit more of Juliet point of view, since it was supposed to be a story about them 2, not Romio and his adventures. That was a huge letdown for me, since Juliet was fun and not your typical maiden waiting to be rescued.
I also disliked the ending quite a bit because of personal preferences i guess...i mean

why the heck would you wait to marry only after you made it big in politics, waiting 7 years for a dumb reason like that is a foreign concept to me

I do recommend this if you want something a bit chill to read and don't have anything else, most characters are quite lovely both as art and as personality.

Initial thoughts "oh another romeo and juliet story and they ain't even trying to mask it".... well it is but not exactly. Overall decent comedy, romance and drama it doesn't take itself to seriously for most of the manga. What really impressed me was that they deal with their problems looking at the long term where as in the usual trope romeo and juliet fight against everyone to be together these guys try to change the people and society around them so not only they can be together but so that everyone gets along. Though I must say the funniest part I found in this whole manga was just a couple of chapters from the end char owns romio so hard that it just puts the manga on that next level of awesome.

THE NEW SCHOOL RUMBLE. THE BEST MODERN SHOUNEN ROMCOM EVER.
by Padawan

Did I say its the new School Rumble?
Yes. Yes I did.
But THIS is FAR superior and NOT as disappointing.
(Well, so far. But given how consistently great its been and how wise the author has been, I'm confident it will end well.)

I have read a lot of Romcoms since the 90s. Most were trash, but many were great - however, even those ultimately disappoint, save for an exceptional few.
The biggest problem (read: curse) of romcoms is that they always begin exciting, but drag on unsatisfyingly mainly due to INDECISION and a drop in creativity.

THIS one is different. It is as if the author has read all the romcoms that existed before and was frustrated over them, and decided to make his own that forgoes all the flaws and weaknesses of those romcoms and made it PERFECT.
(In fact, you can see this in further chapters where sometimes the characters break through the fourth wall by commenting on their situation, as if making fun of typical romcoms.)

I imagine the author is a very thoughtful, feeling, understanding and sensitive man - because it shows in this manga. The main character is decisive FROM THE START AND
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
GETS THE GIRL IN THE VERY FIRST CHAPTER
(whereas most romcoms struggle to even reach this point - struggle even more beyond that!). The author manages to successfully make the story interesting all the way, without a hint of plot holes nor anything frustrating. Its not a battle manga but there can sometimes be fights and they're pretty well done.

You see, this manga does not make the reader scream madly "Why'd you have to do that?! Stupid MC!".
This manga is very rational. The mc isn't perfect, not the super brightest but he is definitely NOT dumb. He is still growing and grow he does. He always ends up doing the right thing, a great guy even I'd want to be friends with. Also he's manly as hell.

If you want a thoughtful, wholesome, heartwarming, sensitive, soothing, lovingly sweet romcom, go for Boarding School Juliet.
BUY this gem on Bookwalker, where I discovered it.
(Bless BookWalker)

I compared this to School Rumble, but really its its own thing. Its not actually as rowdy like SR, but it can be times - and when it does, its frikkin hilarious.

Also, super great super beautiful super cute art.
Author can make some really dramatic emotional expressions.
I'm amazed how some men can draw so beautifully...

To be honest, I don't really like harem and ecchi manga. Because most of them are not funny despite many people call it funny and well, I'm actually triggered by author slapstick.
But surprisingly, I like this manga even though I only read two volume now. I don't think it will be this funny and interesting. I thought it will have higher rating, but turns out it is just so-so. I wonder why. But I will keep reading this.

Star-Crossed Lovers

This is one of the one-shots that I'm glad got serialized.

While it might not have the biggest/interesting plot out there, I'm here for the comedy and occasional sweetness.

Perucia is not exactly a tsundere, because she has a reason to smack Inudzuka.
Their secret relationship is a fun ride. You'd want to know if someone will finally found out.
I especially want to see their love to develop more.
