I tried reading this a couple months ago and it didn't really clicked because the art (especially the naked dudes) is kinda off putting at the time. fast forward to today I decided to give it another try and holy shit was it not the best decision I made. this manga is a comedy gold, it's really funny with all these over the top expressions and reactions. no stupid overly complicated drama and stuff. only fun!
totally recommended this series!

The premise seemed a little weak, diving doesn't seem all that interesting for a manga, and honestly it does seem to take a backseat to the characters interacting, but the execution is great. Very funny, and I was not surprised to find the author also wrote Baka to Test. It's humour and art style (specifically overly exaggerated serious faces) remind me of Jitsu Wa and Prison School. Give it a try.if you like rom coms.

Unbelievable surprise

I've read a lot of seriously funny manga in the 15 years, Kyou Kara Ore Wa, Angel Densetsu, Beelzebub, etc. that made you cramp up of laughter in front of the screen, but Grand Blue is on another level altogether. It took me a couple of chapters to get into it because it's so over the top, but once I got in, I was spitting my food out of laughter. The artwork, the exaggerations, and so many surprises from a page to the next, it's unpredictable and it's beyond hilarious.

But I also want to take a moment to comment on the non-comedy aspect, which seems to slip in between the cracks because the comedy is so powerful, but the characters are actually very unique and their relationships with each other are unlike any I have any seen in manga. The hero and heroine (is there one?) are charming and the author is not shy to put them in embarrassing situations that is usually reserved to secondary comedy relief characters. This only adds to their charm and uniqueness.

A must read!

When Grand Blue has diving, it's beautiful. When it doesn't (most chapters) it's a goddamn riot

Before anything else I'd like to say the series is "weird", not due to the zany content, but due to the unconventional progression. It's a funny series, quite good. I talk about it more in a long review.

This is not a harem manga...

...and I'm so glad it isn't. Both story description and cover are pretty misleading - when you hear about a light-hearted manga about diving, you might expect a harem/ecchi setting. And indeed, the manga is full of people unashamedly flaunting their assets...except that 99% of those people are bodybuilder-style men. And the protagonist is not amused by this. Indeed, one of the strongest aspects of this manga are the amazing faces the characters make when they are not amused <3. The sheer range of facial expressions on display is something I've rarely seen *anywhere* in manga.

Also, don't expect much diving in this manga. It happens occasionally, but at least in the first two volumes, the manga is mostly about alcohol, a strip version of rock paper scissors, and college freshman shenanigans. All of which is hilarious.

Indeed, essentially everybody should at least read the first 2-3 chapters of this manga, which constitute some of the funniest, most laugh-out-loud moments I've ever experienced in manga.

I picked this up to read randomly when I was scavenging for more manga to read so I wasn't expect much from a manga I've never heard about. BUT wow! This manga just made me laugh so hard my sides hurt. It's a great comedy and had instantly became one of my favourite comedy series. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a silly comedy or want a good laugh.

Honestly, I just picked this manga up cause I was bored and thought I'd give it a shot. I wasn't really expecting to get much out of it. However! This manga is absolutely hilarious! I'm in stitches, really. I haven't laughed this hard at a manga since Gintama. I'd definitely recommend you pick it up as a comedy manga; the humor hits hard and hasn't stopped, or even eased up, a bit so far.
