Description
From StarryHeaven:
There’s the affectionless father and the overly affectionate mother, and then there’s the beautiful 18 year old high schooler Rina. “Friends are just meant to be used,” is what Rina says when she is caught having sex with one of her friends’ boyfriends. Rina has such a low opinion of friends, but when she is hospitalized her classmate from elementary school, Maki, appears before her, wanting to continue their free-of-charge friendship from long ago. In this day and age, just what is the meaning of friendship?

A good read nevertheless...

The premise is great, but lacks in its delivery. The story and characters I had no problem with, but I did so with the overall layout and pace. The art is so-so and there are moments where it is melodramatic. Anyways it is a short read that is worth it, mainly cause it does give important messages, one of them being true friendship.

a complete waste of time....not realistic at all
it is soo bad in many ways and the characters were all revolting...that "friend" of hers was so abnormally kind and tolerant...and the main character was nothing but a slut(yes i know this changes later due to the kindness of her "friend". whatever.)
its like the mangaka was trying sooo hard to make another Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari but it didnt work, deep love was very unrealistic and over dramatic but it still had its strong points...but this...this was a complete melodrama fail...i dont recommend this to anyone

I feel this story wanting to be beautiful, and have a really good story and point, but I just don't think it was played out well... I can understand how she uses the friends that use her, but seriously, does she have to be such a b- to her parents?! I understand that not all heroines have the same personality, but at least show a little growth... it didn't really happen until the fourth chapter. But she can't just change like that, I understand! Still, something about this story just didn't touch me like I thought it would.

Besides, Maki would have made the story, but at times I kinda felt she was overdoing it... the tragedy was too much for two chapters.

I don't know, I can see it from both ways, but my impression of this wasn't all that high... and not because of the lack of romance!! bigrazz I do like how at the end

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
She became a nurse. I mean, a little cliche yes, but it was a good change. Her personality was nice too, although it would have been a little nice to show more of her changed personality; just to give no doubts she'd go back to being a brat after Maki died. ... I wonder if she even went to college to become a nurse? Lol?

i think i'm the only one here, but.. this manga is BAD. the girl being troubled & dying doesn't make this a good manga. she's just a whiny bitch and this manga is like 'how much drama can we fit into 2 chapters.' i don't have a problem with tragedy mangas but this one is just not worth your time.
ps. not realistic.

This manga really is good from my point. And it can also change peoples way of thinking since its so realistic.
And I think its amazing that a manga can do that. However, its not very long and thought some people want more of it I think its good actually that it didnt last long. I think that is because most people feel with the characters - being sucked into the storyline and dont want manga to be too much depressing so a short manga that is very realistic - and the characters got 'small eyes' gives more the feeling of "reality" .
So to make it short lets say its " a small dose of reality " . - which everyone needs once in a while.
The art is also good (:
Give it a try!

Really, amazing, touching manga that makes you think and evualate what really is friendship. Cried a lot for this manga and manga hardly makes me cry. I can't believe a manga with only two chapters could develop Rina from being such a terrible person into a caring, human being without it seeming forced or rushed and the development of the friendship is amazing. It also poses the question of why are we here, and shows the human desire to live on despite hardships. Loved it

I found this a beautiful story, even though I didn't cry (and I did in Deep Love). In more ways than one, it's better than Deep Love, and it really touched me, but in a different way...
Sousuke just pissed me off.

I liked deep love it was really good and I like this one but I think we needed to see more of what the lead Riina was before she got ill so that we could really understand why she felt the way she did. But overall it was really good typical of yoshi!

*May contain Spoilers/Hints*
This story broke my heart.. Sure she was an asshole in the beginning & got me mad a bit about how she saw the world & how she thinks that "friends are there so that they can be used" but she did learn about the real world & how important life is... I can only image how much it hurt her when *someone* would tell her that they loved her but then found out about her "condition" and then walked out...URG! MEN!
I didn't cry though, maybe because it's almost 2am & I'm so tired.
Great story, well developed, & beautiful art... I give it a 10/10

So this is were the movie "dear friends" originated from. I felt that the movie was great but so is this manga, is certainly not your usual manga but that is what makes it refreshing and a good read.
