Description
Icaro is the mind-bending, fast-paced adventure of a young man, Icaro, with the ability to fly and a young woman, Yukiko, who risks her life -- and more -- to help Icaro achieve his dream. Best of all, it capitalizes on Taniguchi's ability to depict a vast and oppressive advanced science laboratory that has made Icaro its guinea pig and will use all its resources to keep him imprisoned for study.
Icaro's fight for freedom and Yukiko's sacrifice to aid him make this one of the most inspiring manga stories as well as a pioneering collaboration between East and West with originality.... More...

I paid a lot for this manga because in Poland it's a hardcover big format release. Because if that I expected it to be epic, yet it's the most shitty manga in my collection. Honestly. What's even the point introducting Tanaka and the Glass Shoes, they weren't used in the story enough and nothing got explained. Totally feels like a prologue to some longer series (which could be good). As a stand alone it's totally pointless. Also, the characters' feet are drawn too small which pisses me off lol I mean the art could be the best point of this shitty manga, but the body proportions are off, so nothing good here. I have no idea why this thing got published.

When I read the description, I thought this was going to be a really good story. Another reason was that I was really impressed with the author's Benkei story. However it turned out not to be that good. The girl was described to "risk her life - and more" for this Icaro but it did not feel like it - She only tried to give him some birds, and never really made any serious attempt to save him during his time at the compound, and only took action when he had escaped. And the overall story simply does not leave much of an impression.
In conclusion, I should have checked the comments before reading this.

you are having a good dream, some interesting things are happening, you escape with the girl and then... riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinggggg you wake up... no idea what happened whit the other aspects of the story, but i wish Tanaka takes action and becomes part of the glass shoes right while in that plane.

After reading the description I was under the impression that either this was one true 'hidden' gem, or - more likely - is definitely trying to oversell itself... The latter proved true.
Very disappointing and axed ending. These two (very short) volumes could be called an extended prologue, just when you expect the story to really 'start' (and get better)... it ends.
Story... I was actually pretty disgusted by it and was actually glad when it ended. Your typical 'mad' obsessive immoral scientists dominated fictional future (hence the cyberpunk).
The art is apparently praised... I've seen much much better in larger quantities. Better than most American comics around at that time, but still... In my opinion, it's nothing noteworthy.
Then again, I prefer my art clean, smooth, orderly and functional... Like that of most modern day manga. Why bother putting in so much detail when, at most, you'll look it it a couple of seconds and it serves no other purpose than to 'impress/distract' the readers. I'd rather have coloured pages than this. (Beautiful > Detailed)
If you're looking for humanness, definitely steer clear of this one.
If you're looking for action, don't bother
If you're looking for romance, there is a bit... but nothing noteworthy and it's very short
If you're looking for good story, nothing to be had here
Looking for stunning art?... Go visit a museum

Interesting story but ends too soon before any questions get answered regarding Icaro. I liked that a romance develops but the ending seemed too trite and sappy IMHO. Art is clean and detailed but reminiscent of other mangakas, and body proportions seem a bit off...
