After finishing the novel, I have to say I enjoyed reading it. But it wasn't as good as its prequel "Coiling Dragon".
The characters didn't seem as well fleshed out as the original and there weren't many exciting plot twists or such. I think the most glaring difference is that the translation quality is nowhere as good as Ren's Coiling Dragon translation. Its possible that original in chinese could be compared more favourably but the english translation certainly doesn't do it much justice.
When I read through the text, there were lots of mistakes in spelling and grammar. Certain words like gasped, possess, extremely, reckon, unceasingly were used far too often, too repetitively and sometimes in inappropriate places. (Eg wrongly describing someone "extremely" angry as "slightly" angry and vice versa.)
It looks like the translators just used a replace-all function to translate the chinese characters. But the problem is that Chinese is a strongly contextual language, with multiple (sometimes dissimilar) meanings for each character. It would of been better if they browsed a thesaurus to more accurately convey the meaning rather than a blanket replace all approach. That way it would of been less repetitive and more colourful. Many of the sentences also could of been rewritten to make it flow better in english. Often there are good intentioned posters in the comments section pointing out some of the more glaring mistakes but it seems the translators don't bother going back to correct it. As a result, the translation is very rough unlike the quality, polished translation of CD.
Another beef I have with the trans is that the terms used in the novel change alot with different translators. Its not hard to figure out the different terms, but its rather annoying that the later translators don't use the same terms as the translators before them to try and keep it consistent.
That said, the translation is understandable and for the most part, a lot better than google translate. There are worse translations (eg certain fan translated Japanese novels) out there so been understandable is already a major plus. There's also the length of the novel. Actually that might be the best part. The whole thing is extremely long and it's at least as lengthy as CD. If you enjoyed reading it, it would probably provide you with weeks of quality reading time if you read it from beginning to end.
Plus, since it's one of the few completed novels, it gives you a nice sense of closure after reading. So while this novel wasn't as good as Coiling Dragon, it's still decent enough to warrant a read through.

Starts out ok, gets much better when he reaches the immortal realm, then goes full on shit when he goes to divine realm. The worst of the trio, Coiling dragon is better, and Desolate Era is way better. Saving graces is that its already finished so you can read it in one go, and the whole cosmos vibe it had in the immortal realm was very much to my liking.
its a bit lame compared to (ATG,TDG,MGA). The start is too slow. There is absolute no romance (I am at Book 4 Chapter 14) and the MC focuses only to refine his muscles and eating the jidan of his enemys. His enemys are just as daft as he. They newer asks just attack. Everybody wants to eat the other jidan lol and take the holy weapons.
I found this story very enjoyable, until the mc ascends to Devine realm.

I think IET totally humped the Devine realm. I mean deities arevmanual labor, shopkeepers....REALYY.. these guys spend million of year cultivating, fighting to reach here. and all of them are perfectly content being a insignificant villager.
secondly heavenly deity. again IET spends quiet a lot of words glorifying them. few handful of them. top of all deity, occupying important positions. few chapters down theycare too becoming maid, caretaker etc.
also i think IET put so much hype in power levels in immortal realm that he found himself laking for ideas about proper power level in Devine realm. so thats why a planet destroying immortal emperor have power of a mortal in Devine realm. so that IET could build the power hype again. note that this did not happens when one goes from mortal to immortal realm.
and lastly mc's girlfriend li. livis a princess. she is also a mid level heavenly deity who has a sure shot to become a godking. every one wants to marry her, her father wants to Wed her off. so when mc ask her to elope with him, what is her response?
li: sorry sweety, you see I am a spineless creature who can't tell my father about us. I am also a very selfish creature who wants to have the cake and eat it too. so why don't you go against all the bigshots in Devine realm and come out on topbso that you could marry me openly. that way I get to marry you and also still be on good terms with my family. beloved mc Love is all about giving and taking. you do the giving and I willvdo taking 0:)

PLEASE READ! The following senteces are a rough example of how it is frustrating the author describes:
EXAMPLE!
(narrator)
Circle are round, there are no angles in a circle, therefore when it rolls around, it rolls around smoothly.
*after another chapter you will find*
(MC)
"HEY! that thing rolls around smoothly on a flat surface, that is a shape that has no angles! it must be a circle" MC says. Since circles are round and has no angles, when rolled over. It could roll smoothly on the surface. MC was right, it is a circle. there are 2 kinds of circle, a big circle and the other one is a small circle.
This author likes to go on circles when describing things... sometimes even explaining things that are trivial is his specialty.
He likes to feed his readers crap information...
VERY VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!! I am furious because when the more interesting the story gets... the more crap he will feed you, so much that he slows you down before you could get to the good part!

lets say at that time MC has a power of 3... he needs the power of 7 to open the door to get the treasure..BUT! the problem is if when he cross the power level from 4 to become 5... he is going to be transported to a higher realm.. that crossing of realm is unstoppable and are rules of the 'heaven'
so it meant that he have to go back to that lower realm where the temple is located... which is really hard to do as said by the caretaker..
what i am saying is.... it took alot of chapter to time when he saw the door that he needed to open upto the time he learned that the door he needs to open is impossible with his current powers.. and that he must comeback for it...

All this talk dissing this novel or other chinese xianxa and wuxia novels is really sad since when it comes to novels it really doesn't matter if the plot is repeated or if something is cliche or the characters are light/weak, it all comes down to did you enjoy reading it?, did you connect yourself to any character? and more importantly did you immerse yourself while reading it. That's what make novels or reading books in general fun is that you can immerse yourself with just words.

The quality is average, some people with sharp eyes will notice many many nonsense, bullshit and stupid moment. For examples :
-The MC warns and let stupidly his opponent to prepare his battle form when he could just kill him quickly (his opponent is as strong as the MC or even more strong).
-The MC give stupidly a painting to his brother when he knows that many "bad people" will come to reclaim it and then his brother's family is slaughtered.. It's easy to see how the author didn't get any idea to give to the MC a reason to kill them..
-The MC create something like a army in mortal realm but forget them later.. when he will ascend to immortal realm the author didn't mentionned anything about them..
-The most stupid thing is about the immortal emperor level or mystic emperor level (it's the same level).. even translators didn't understand..
I'm don't really want to say it but almost each 3 or 4 chapters i notice a "stupid moment"..

Well to Huxxus about Qin yu not being talented first off his body is not suitable for internal practice and his talent in external practice is mediocre that is where the Meteor tear comes into play to help with that problem like Wuxman pointed out he is walking a pretty hard route but also he made his own body movement technique that rivaled that of the highest ranking divine beast.

I think a lot of people would agree with me when we say that CD is a work of art and one of the top Wuxia novels by a long shot. As for stabbing people in the back, he has only done that to those who had bad intentions to begin with. He has never as far as I have seen, directly hurt or betrayed anyone who didn't deserve it.
As for the school wipe. Everyone seems to forget when he called out the person to fight that originally the whole school were coming out to kill him as a group. Those are the good guys who should be spared right?
Teng Long, while I agree making them fight each other wasn't my favourite way to handle things. I will point out it wasn't "unintentional" killing. They knew full well that with their powers inside a mortal city which housed all his family, would destroy most life in sight. They simply had 0 consideration for the human life around them and had no consideration for MC as he was in their eyes a weaker faction, so why did it matter if they angered him??
So he devastated the factions which caused it.
As for him not being Talented. He is taking the hardest route to become an immortal since he has to create his own path to become immortal. Stellar Transformations is incomplete and he must complete it by himself. Being the first person to create a new method of advancing into immortality in any world would be called a genius.
I would say he is ruthless, not evil. He does not kill for fun or without being provoked. He does not abuse his power.

First of all, this novel is in a category of Light Novel, so there is not much of an expectation from me.

I seriously enjoyed the story early on. It's an underdog story, about a kid who is fated to be nothing much, that even his father decide to keep him away so that he won't be a trouble when the war started. And by his own power (more or less...) he rise above that expectation and even more.
The MC himself is clearly portrayed as a kindhearted, highly motivated and dedicated martial artist, as well as treasuring (to a level of abnormality...) his family and friends. Or at least at first he was like that.
As the story drag on, the writer transform the MC into a manipulative egocentric lying assassin that would do ANYTHING to get what he wanted without ANY consideration to other people outside his circle. Seriously, he became a classic power hungry antagonist. This guy would insert himself to a group disguising himself as an ally and waiting for the right moment to stab someone in the back, seriously most of the story is like this. The concept of honor is alien to this guy (or this writer).
And the level of naivety of this MC (or writer) is humongous. I'm confuse most of the time, at one point the writer paint the world as a strong eat weak environment, like when the MC and his bird first came to underwater world, they would attack, enslave and consume any being that they wanted. But when the same thing is happening to the MC, he would act like it's some kind of heavenly injustice, what is he? an 8th grader?
Somebody killed his first master, and cut his father and uncle arm, of course he was angry that he wanted to kill the perpetrator, but no, he need to go further, he need to kill all thousand of people that happen to be near him, and also exterminate that guy school to the root. And when some people from teng long continent fight and unintentionally kill many of his relative and thousands of other innocent people, what did he do? He scheme and pit these two super power against each other that ultimately killed millions of innocent lives.
And by the way, the guy is not talented nor is he exceptional in any way (even his first master said so), his main feature is his luck, it's only because of his luck that he got that meteor tear (which alongside uncle Lan serve as deus ex machina a lot of time in this story) which allow him to reach peak houtian external master, it's only by luck that he managed to become the successor of stellar art, it's only by luck that he met with uncle Lan (and only god knows why the hell would this uncle Lan favored this guy so much) whose also give him that immortal puppet which the MC abuse its usage to the max (even though uncle Lan himself warn him not to).
In conclusion, this story would do well to be some kind of preparation for future story where Qin Yu is actually the main antagonist evil lord who is trying to control the universe
