Actually Pretty Good

Now, obviously this manga is very violent and perhaps too violent for the weak of heart, but if you're like me and can't get phased by manga violence (already read Ichi the Killer and still no effect) then you can sit through this manga and actually enjoy (not really enjoy, but you get what I mean) the story.
To put it out there, yes, it really messed up what these kids have to go through, and if you're chivalrous like me, it can become painful watching the number of women (more like girls) who die. Still, it just adds to the tragic factor of this story (I'm surprised it isn't under the tragedy genre). And for those who like action, it can get pretty actiony (especially on one of the later showdowns).
Probably the one thing that annoyed me a little (other than the main antagonist and the number of dead girls) is the ending or rather the ending fight. It kind of seemed to drag on a bit. What could have been concluded in 1 chapter ended up dragging on for 3-4 chapters, IIRC. That's only enough to maybe drop my rating by .5, but when there's the amount of violence there is in this manga (especially the number of dead girls), it can become overbearing. So, even though the violence didn't phase me, I still thought that the amount of violence took away from the quality of the story.
Overall, definitely give it a shot. If you can stomach almost non-stop killing, then you can definitely find the quality in the story, and the story is very good (but on the tragic side).

The art makes this manga stand out from the pack. The student relationships weren't believable though, since we didn't get to know them very well before the battle royale. If the author had devoted a couple of volumes to the genre of school life/romance (suzuka, school rumble, something like that) and then had them duke it out to the death, I would have cared about the characters more--in fact, it would have been awesome.
it is awsome i love this comic gir wot validate my acount

seriously some people here need to really stop whining about this manga, if you dont like it move on to something else. me? i personally really liked it, it always made me want to read the next chapter. i had to force myself to stop reading at 2 in the morning. but while i did really like most of the manga, to me the violence was kinda to over the top, eyes going everywhere, and the fact that the kids sold each other out so easily, and went absolutely nuts, really annoyed me. im in high school and im pretty sure no one there would sell eachother out so easily, you'd have to be really spoiled.
finally some of you people should stop blaming the artist for making an inhumane manga, its better than some crappy cliche romance

I can't see why people put so high ratings. I agree it was good, but the characters... why are they SO soft, although it may seem reasonable that they are soft but in a setting like that, how can you survive acting like a real human? It was deep and made me think a lot but it was mostly anger from the thoughts of being able to save everyone. I was turned off fast by the constant violence as well, and the insane characters were never really interesting.
If your into random killing, and characters who can't draw you in well, have fun. IMO The 3 guys who are into escaping are probably the MOST annoying characters I have ever seen.

if you just feel like reading something graphic and gory, this is it. no plot or story really just an entire class killing each other off.
this was my first introduction to seinen and ever since I've only been looking for seinen series to read.
re-readability is low, everytime i try to read it again i often just skip the protagonists long drawn out speeches about how people are genuinely good and i go to the main antagonist destroying everyone.

I really liked this manga. The violence didn't really bother me, nor did the gore, but the nudity and sex in it did. I often had to stomach it or skip it. The storyline is way depressing and so is the story. Plus my favourite character died. . . Regardless, this manga actually made me think about a lot of things. Its not, in my opinion, just about blood and violence, I feel there was much more to it than that. The characters personal stories just made the whole ending more poignant.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
so ironic dat the two people that hardly did anything, dat didn't kill survived. All thanks to Kawada. Really felt sad when he died.
Damn. So many dead. Its quite sad. Wouldn't want to read mangas like these again, definetly not for me.great manga

Its a manga that will really suck you in. I really love survival manga and even though it wasn't completely realistic, underneath the exagerated gore, it explores human nature and does a pretty decent job at it. The gore kind of gets funny at times since even a small bullet shot at a person results in his brains falling out. I mean cmonn lol. The main protagonist is a bit of a homo with his altruistic beliefs and trying to save everyone. What a jackass. Its kind of sad that some of the best characters had to die, but it didnt make the manga any worse

i dont know if i ever want to read this, becuz the movie was already enough for me, im betting this will be the goryiest thing ever, since mangas usually can extend to greater heights in creepy ways of killing than a movie...
