Underrated

Better than 70% yaoi manga out there. This one has good art and decent plot, characterization can be better, but hey it's only 1 vol. so it's understandable if this one feels a little rushed. Also to those who disliked or didn't understand about the ending, you must read episode 0, It has itou-san true ending (2 chapters of itou-san continuation. But don't read eposode 0 first, even though it was listed as prequel. Rather than the prequel it was more like the complement of itou-san.

It's hard to believe this is the author's first work

I normally avoid mangas with dark and twisted plots, especially in Yaoi, since most of the time, Yaoi mangakas overshadow the plot with loads of smut and rape, and it just turns out to be grim and shallow. But this is definitely not the case for Itou-san.
I seriously can't believe this is the author's first work, because the plot and pacing is so consistent and very well done, she was able to show the character's twisted pasts, let them meet and fall in love under such dim circumstances and reach a good ending in just ONE manga volume. I find that incredibly fascinating and impressive.
Works that contain dark themes such as violence, rape, murder, etc usually leave me feeling distressed, but this one left me feeling hopeful and happy and I am glad I gave it a try despite being a genre that I usually avoid.
My only complaint tho would be that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I felt that Itou's boss gave up chasing them way too fast, but I guess that can be understandable to some degree, because if he kept chasing them down it would take forever for the manga to end and it would also become annoying I guess lol

Now this is a manga packed with drama, action, romance all well combined into a gripping thriller piece. I like the fact that it's very concise, compact and there's no unnecessary detail in both the plot as well as presentation. The fast and consistent pace did wonders in pulling the audience in and making them engrossed in the story, combined with the very stylistic and polished art style that helps elevate this type of dark and gritty story to an even higher level. "Itou-san" is quite a well done work of fiction.

A beautiful story with a questionable ending...

This is one of the most well-written yaoi stories that I've read (not the random oneshot, though) and I was always wondering why it only got one volume. We need a happy ending and I hope the spin-off series about Ito's past progressed into the future and we get to see Ito and Kyosuke spend the rest of their lives in bliss in that small house by the ocean....

I WASN'T ENGROSSED AT FIRST

BECAUSE I WASN'T IN THE MOOD TO READ SOME TWISTED MANGA AND I GUESS I DIDN'T TAKE THE ENDING TOO SERIOUSLY. I THINK I READ THIS AROUND 5 MONTHS AGO. WHEN I READ IT AGAIN WEEKS AGO (the cover was familiar) I WAS IN LOVED WITH IT AND GOT MY HEART BROKEN. I SWEAAAR I WISH THIS ENDING HAS A SEQUEL!!!! MY HEART CAN'T JUST TAKE IT.

I LOVE HOW TWISTED THIS IS. THEIR LOVE ISN'T TWISTED AT ALL. IT DOESN'T INVOLVE MANIPULATING A PARTNER. IT DOESN'T INVOLVE SEXUALLY HARASSMENT WITH THE PARTNER. IT DOESN'T INVOLVE SELFISHLY ISOLATING YOUR PARTNER ALL TO ONESELF. INSTEAD, THEIR SITUATION WAS TWISTED. HOW THEY MET WAS TWISTED. HOW THEY TRIED TO RUN WAS TWISTED. THEIR FATE WAS TWISTED. AND THAT IS MY FAVORITE KIND OF TWISTED.

THIS DOES NOT INVOLVE ABUSE WITH LOVE AS AN EXCUSE. INSTEAD, IT INVOLVES TRUE LOVE AND WANTING THE BEST FOR EACH OTHER. TRUST ME, YOU'LL LOVE IT.

Read the Prequel AFTER This

I cannot stress this point enough. Please whoever comes across this manga, please read the prequel after this. Ito-san on it's own is dark, twisted, nicely though out but when I first read it I didn't like it that much because the technological aspect of it seemed more magical than anything else, still more importantly the ending breaks the tone of the whole manga for me. BUT the prequel makes sense of it all. (Not the technology as magical though, not that I really care about it much).
That's why even though the whole story started from the prequel, please don't read it first.
There's also this big emotional uplift which you get which the prequel gives only because you (meaning "I", pun intended) were disappointed by Ito-san in the first place.

The Perfect Match

Kyousuke-kun is a prostitute who cares for nothing but to be able to eat, sleep, and live another day regardless of what it takes to do so.

Itou-san (otherwise known as Prototype No. 9/Codename "I") is a merciless assassin who was not capable of understanding (much less feeling) any form of emotion had his world turned upside down by the beautiful being that is Kyousuke-kun.

When their worlds collide, each gives the other's life meaning.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kyousuke grants "I" the name "Itou" and gives the assassin the chance to make decisions for himself. Itou gives Kyousuke a new sense of being and purpose to living other than the act itself.

No such universe exists (or will ever exist) in which their lives don't revolve around one another. Their love is out of this world. And I think that's beautiful.

First story

WOW! That´s the only thing I have to say about the first story. I honestly didn't expect much when I read the description, but at the end I was pleasantly surprised. Such an intense, dark and incredible story that the author succeeded portraying through her characters.

Recommended!

It's twisted and entertaining

but looking through the other comments it didn't impress me as much as many others, that's why I'm leaving a comment.
The art is good a bit disturbing and far from beautiful. The mangaka used a lot of black colour. All of this suits the storyline and the characters.
The plot is simple but good. Romance between a serial killer and a prostitute is nothing new in yaoi genre but this time it's so messed up it's almost refreshing. Also there's some background, growth of characters and their relationship, hot sex and even a twist in the plot BUT it's lacking of realism. It's easy to say that the world they live in isn't real... It's ok if main characters are insane and have a weird taste but why supporting characters are also dark&twisted? It's been bugging me. It's just too much. I mean the idea was good but it feels like mangaka overdid it. It'd have been better if supporting characters were left plain/common, then our main couple would really stand out. The way it is right now it gives a vibe it was made just for fun, without any hidden deep meaning.

Anyway it's a nice read if you like blood, abuse and weird stuff. Stay away if you want to read deep, dark, psychological story, it's not this kind of yaoi.

I want my yaoi either one of two ways: Sweet, realistic, and heartwarming OR bleak, dark, psychologically and emotionally twisted, whether realistic or not. This work manages to sate my desire for the latter to a T. The mood is never broken. I honestly don't consider this to be the darkest thing I've read but it stands on its own two feet as a moody, grim piece in its own right.
