This is my all-time favorite shoujo manga. Since I read Orpheus no Mado when I was very young, I found it a good introduction of European history for kids. I've become fanatic about Russia after reading this. LoL!
On the whole, the art is nicely illustrated. However, it greatly developed from the first volume to the last one in a more intricate style as if it was executed by different artist. The plot is so strong and powerful. The most touching part IMO is the story of Isac.
The way it ends with sorrow always shed my tears and it still lingers in my heart after so many years. There's also a side-story to this manga called Shiroi Egmont. It is definitely an excellent love story of three generations that the first couple ended up a tragedy (they were half siblings) whereas the second and the third had a happy ending.

A poor handsome man, recognized as a talented pianist, made his debut and became famous throughout Europe. Despite the peak of his career, Isac had such a big heart to accept a pitiful prostitute as his wife. She was later tricked and brought her husband bankruptcy. Isac was so furious that he expelled her away while she was unknowingly pregnant. After a long while, he found out in time to see his wife take her last breath after giving birth to his son. Then Isac gained his courage to live on.

It has been a long time I came across an excellent series like this.
It is without doubt a beautiful and heartbreaking tales but by all means worth your time.
With meticulous arts on the historical background of Europe at the turning point revolution, the series gives good insights on historical events as well as raises the most controversial question of human evolution against humanity loss. Highly recommend this series. I've become an absolute fan of Ikeda Riyoko after reading this

I disagree, I think it's a good manga with a strong plot.
The only cons I have is the ending. Super sad and I know it sounds ridiculous but I still cry everytime I read the book
