THIS WAS THE BEST

My kind of stuff. Its realistic, not super but a far cry more than other yaoi. Its thematic deals with actual issues.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The part where your family affects you - tengoku's parents and (mostly) bro and Aoki's mom;;;; they didn't even mention his dad which was very interesting too i mean should they really?

The ART. THE A R T. IT WAS CARTOON-ISH BUT ALSO REALISTIC. in some angles i could really make out some characteristically ethnic features which i _love_.

The CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
C H A R A C T E R
D E V E L O P M E N T GETS ME GOINGGG.

i was lovely. Very well written. Angstyy and fluffy and ANGSTY ... and fluffy.

Some comedy bits were also very noteworthy 😂
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
inviting him to lunch by 'not' inviting him is a fav

The characters were very lovable.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I WANT MORE KANSAI WHAT HAPPENED TO HIMM?? And tengoku's old student hmmm??

Notable chapters id love to reread
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
first s*x, ch10.1 s*x, confessions, jealousy s*x with the biting. Yes its all s*x. Did i mention i love biting?

Some people didnt like the first volume?? Thats where all the 'hard' angst is yall😭😂 i LOVED it. It wasn't even that bad?

My libertine psychopath nurse can't be this... cute???

"Oni to Tengoku" is, on the face of it, rather disturbing. I did originally believe that it was going to take a darker route, given the story appeared to be setting up sexual extortion (twice in fact), but it was played rather lightly. This is endemic to this story. Students are seduced by someone who can only really read as a chronic sexual offending psychopath and the other MC has been abused thoroughly by his mother. But these aspects of the story are played in a rather soft way. Of course, this situation in real life would be totally morally bankrupt - as the reviewer "kenzokun" pointed out, our non-psychopathic MC becomes quickly complicit in the nurses chronic sexual abuse. This would not fly in reality, so I can understand why it turned them off the story.

For me personally, the fantasy situation shown to us does not demonstrate the amorality of the author, nor make me enjoy the story less. Mainly because this is one of the most thematically bountiful yaoi I’ve read - nihilism, abuse and love vs sex being but a few. Both characters feel they have been ignored by the world around them, and compressed into the shapes that their families (primarily) expected of them. As we move through the story, the drama and comedy are all conveyed through expressive and well constructed art, panelling and character dialogue (this is most certainly not poorly written as kenzokun claims). It was refreshing to have a story where the characters are drawn with notes of realism and were a bit closer to expiring than a high school student. I was thoroughly hooked from the first time the MCs spoke to each other -the weirdly off-kilter psychoticism of the nurse being shown as a reptile eyeing up the archetypical sufferer of an oedipus complex. It’s great and I’m glad the author gave the story some time to breathe with 10 chapters. Thoroughly recommended if you don’t mind the aforementioned issues surrounding a character, who if existed in IRL, would be completely indefensible (I would like to note for any readers that this is arguably true for many enjoyed characters in popular media e.g. yanderes, the spiders from HxH, and I could go on endlessly). Fiction exists for a reason people.

As much as the first volume may be unpleasant with the rape, the twisted, toxic relationship and the theme of child abuse, keep up reading! Starting from the second volume, things go way deeper and psychological, leaving you flabbergasted and out of breath at some point. The build-up may be long, but it is worthwhile.

the mangaka got a good psychic story, which she just ruined it ,by approving child abuse ,and adult got repeated abuse as when he was a child ,only he appeared to be enjoying it now and before!!....what the heck!!!
and the love bloomed from first rape first assault with the one doing the damage ....again what the heck
Japanese mangaka the one who need a psychic doctor...
got pissed off from first chapter ,then hoped for the story to be straighten on ch (2 or 3),but it got worst, fast reading for ch (4,5)...the story got more disgusting,so drop it and delete it...it was a huge waste of time(overrated manga)
Its a ward wining manga??!!! WTF...Give me a break....

Ok, artwise this was the absolute fucking best, I mean Manabus eyes are staring right into your soul and I love how decidedly asian he looked, something that I feel is lacking in almost any other manga! Loved Aokis look as well, the expressions, the dialogue....
The plot itself is dubcon at best and sadly doesn't really explore SM at all but oh well, I've read worse...

If you don't understand why someone might be into sadomasochisme, then don't read this, as it is clearly not for you. For those who are, I'll add that this has someone with a praise kink, which is always fun to see. Wish there was more kink moving forward. First was jam packed with it, and the second has almost none 🙁

Up to ch.3 vol.1, it's utter trash
by kenzoukun

Rating: 1.0 / 10.0
First of all, I have to clarify, that I have a high tolerance of rape/sexual abuse as a theme in my reads, and I'm not easily offended by the usually poor handling of these issues in BL manga, plus I like dark, twisted stories, but this one was soooooo badly written, it pissed me off so much, I couldn't even finish the 1st volume. And that's rare from me.

I don't care if the main couple will be all lovey-dovey later, their characters and relationship are so toxic from the start, that nobody can convince me it's worth reading any further. Both of the characters are pathetic and despicable, I honestly don't care about neither of them. Aoki's student was sexually harassed by a school nurse, and all he can do is just casually shrug it off, like nothing happened? Sorry mister, but I don't have an ounce of sympathy for you at all, if you can excuse the molester like you did in the manga. (The kid doesn't have a grudge against his molester? Oh, OK, then it's alright, no big deal. Like WTF, dude?) And Tengoku? He is nothing more, than a sadistic rapist, I won't even waste my time describing how utterly badly written his character is.
The author should be ashamed of herself, portraying sadistic sexual harassment as an OK method of "counselling". Cut off the pseudo-psychology girl, your work won't be "deep" with this shit, just a pathetic, tryhard, edgy piece of garbage.

The art is kinda nice though, but even that couldn't save this manga from landing in my trash can.

Don't waste your time on this one. If you want to read actually well written, dark, twisted, psychological BLs, then start with Nakamura Asumiko's work. She's one of the best.

I admit that I'm still pretty irked with how this manga started. Not a great premise. Tengoku creeped me the fuck out and then of course he assaulted Aoki. I was ready to drop the manga but I really liked the art and something about Tengoku analyzing Aoki interested me enough that I was willing to keep going.

Turns out Tengoku needs analyzation of his own (obvi) and the characters really grew on me. Seeing Tengoku and Aoki interacting as friends made me warm up to their relationship a ton (plus seeing Aoki consent). Eventually I began to root for them, even tho the beginning of their relationship put me off a lot. My other small complaint is that we didn't really get a resolution to Aoki's mommy issues, I was waiting for some kind of therapy for that other than sex xD

I almost can’t believe that this is the artist’s first manga. The art goes well with the author’s work. The story is crafted well, I especially like Tengoku, such a complex character on the other side, Aoki-sensei is unexpectedly cute. I like the way they both developed feelings together. There were very special moments where I can really feel the emotions in the panel.
