There is rape.. on both sides

I'm seeing a lot of comments about about Jinnian raping An Hao, and yes that's true, but she also rapes him. It's not a forced rape, but she does sleep with him while he was too drunk to consent which is still rape. Closer to the end she slips him a drug, that I'm guessing is an aphrodisiac, for the purpose of getting him to talk to her. If you're going to complain about rape, be fair.

Regardless, I enjoyed the story and think it's definitely worth a read.

Some sort of abusive clothed in fantasized love story

I recommend new readers to read the novel before the manhwa. Fills in a lot of gap in the manhwa considering a lot of events are skipped throughout the manhwa and a lot more "intense" mature contents (abuse, sexual abuse, violence) and dramatic too. Lu Jinnian's treatment to Anhao was so terrible being so hot and cold to her, rape her when he's upset which is so annoying until the half of the novel. Most characters weren't able to be honest to each other causing misunderstandings between the person they like. Lu Jinnian's love towards her is basically obsessive and possessive. I like Jiamu and Xiangsi's story much better despite having similarities with the main protagonists.

I don't recommend it honestly.

If not for the rape...

It could have been a good, dramatic, cliched-in-the-best-way story. The characters were likable in their own way, and the female lead’s determination, inner strength, and strong will were admirable. But then the author threw in some glossed over rape and abuse.

There was a toxic mix of “it’s not rape if they’re married”, “but he’s hot”, “he had his Reasons”, “he’s not usually like that”, and “but he really loves her” to dismiss the revolting sexual violence.

Look, there is no excuse for what Jinnian did to her (repeatedly) in his “anger” or “jealousy”, and it honestly made my stomach turn to see the main character being brutalized so callously.

No amount of bitterness, envy, or emotional turmoil can excuse someone forcefully and injuriously laying their hands on someone else, especially sexually. That this romanticized abuse is meant for a younger audience is untenable.

Lost potential and violent misogyny is all I’m going to remember about this story, sadly.
