This was awesome and pretty unique, unfortunately. We do need more mangas like this - without toxicity, romanticised rape and violence. Also, it was hilarious.

This hits all the things I love to see in a manga (height difference, age difference, older characters, affection…), and is just cute from start to finish. I love both of the main characters and their cat, and especially that they’re not both extremely young. 30s-40s is a rare age to find and I’m going to treasure this BL!

I love how realistic and funny the characters are! Seiji.. is just adorable, and the scenes with his cat were really funny. Honestly there were too many funny moments to even count. I read Mujaki an Wanko first which didn’t have anything notable other than Seiji’s comedic breaks. So I decided to give this one a shot since he’s the main character, and it did not disappoint at all. Probably one of the best BL characters I’ve read in Japanese manga.

This is hands-down one of the BEST BL I’ve ever read, maybe the 2nd right after Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai bcos I’m a masochist who likes angst. I love the main couple to the moon and back and I just want to give them all the happiness in the world. They are so lovable and amazing, and their distinct personalities really shine through. Niyama sensei did such a great job portraying them, their backstories and their insecurities so realistically.
And SHIN MY PRECIOUS MY LOVE!! He’s so sweet, so patient, so respectful, so GOOD. All semes should take a leaf out of his book. He also lowkey reminds me of a slightly-less-emotionally-constipated Doumeki from Saezuru. (edit - I saw someone say the same thing below and I wanna say I FEEL YA)

Also, both main characters are such Unproblematic Good People, and they actually engage in open and honest communication, which is the FOUNDATION of any good healthy relationship, and pretty much unicorns in BL.

Plot-wise, there’s nothing super innovative, but because the r/s between the main couple is so healthy, there is rarely misunderstandings or conflicts due to miscommunication. STILL Niyama sensei manages to tug on my heartstrings and make me emotional over their love for each other.

The highlight for me is her humor. Wow I don’t think I’ve laughed quite this hard for any BL I’ve read in recent years. Niyama sensei has a way of inserting just the right amount of ridiculousness and humor at the right time. It’s often over-the-top, but downright hilarious. The scanlation group did a collage of Seiji being a wholeass meme and that should tell you something about what the humor's like.


Tbh, I wasn’t expecting much when I picked this up, because the I read the manga it was adapted from - Mujaki na Wanko to Nekokaburi first, and thought it was so-so. But I’m so glad I persisted. I saw that Vol. 3, the last one, is coming out end of the month (with a few more chapters I imagine), and I’m preparing to order the physical book from Japan. I don’t want it to end, but I guess 3 volumes is considered lengthy for a BL manga. I really hope to see more of such stories from Niyama sensei in the future!

This manga got everything I wanted from a BL manga. An older uke who really is an old man feature and character, not just older but with baby face. A seme who is gentle and does not attacking his uke everytime he got a chance. The story started pretty generic, but then goes warm, funny, and enjoyable. I usually ship these kind of couple in a lot of fandom, so it is very refreshing to find a BL manga with characters like them.

This manga has everything going for it. I love how the characters (Seiji especially) are reasonable and have a good sense of humor. And pretty good communication skills! Really refreshing in the sea of yaoi tropes.

I am a member on the English publishing website Renta, and I saw on their Upcoming Releases for April 21, 2020, that My Dearest Cop will begin releasing Volume 3!

Armpits and Legs' hair is so artistic lol. I love seeing non bara-bl mangaka didn't forget to add those forgotten male features. I hardly, if ever, see an oyaji character in BL acting like the oyaji we usually see in drama or shounen manga and Seiji is acting like one, not to mention his seiyuu Shingaki Tarusuke pulled his oyaji personality perfectly. And the way Seiji talked to Chikotan is just us to our fur kids.

Shin is so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Cool, silent, kind and awkward but Horny like a teen who just reach his puberty! But out of his horniness no rapey personality is included. He WAS a Kuchibiru Dorobo but never a rapist! Furukawa Makoto pulled his character really goooooood too.

It's a good manga, hot and funny, also healthy. And thank goodness! The drama cd got a perfect seiyuu! Made it twice as perfect when you read while listening to it.

At first, I expected this to be a straightforward PWP type with barely-there plot but it turns out that it's not the case! It starts out a bit stereotypically BL - the "stolen kiss" that shocks the MC. But the following relationship and plot development was very nicely done and paced, which was a very pleasant surprise. It also helps that's it's hilarious and the MC has a cute cat. Truly one of the gems of late 2010s BL - I'm looking forward for more volumes!
