My Heart Fluttered

I really liked the main story. Happy and wholesome school BL will always be my favorite genre and this doesn't disappoint! The characters are lovable and the transition between their character arcs in the later half of the story was so adorable. I liked Taira's character as a whole as he's such a fun character and super honest. The concept was pretty interesting too and their dynamic is just so adorable!

I liked both Taira's and Misato's characters and the side characters are also adorable. Hiromi is also so adorable that I wanted to pinch his cheek! I'm so glad he didn't take Taira's questionable behavior seriously even though I do think I would have pressed charges if I was in his situation, haha. The conflict in between chapter 3 and 4 is quite sad as I hated the scene where the teacher forced and drugged Misato to do some unpleasant things to him, and I feel so bad for Misato. But I'm glad Taira was there to save the day! Although the 'blood' and the fake-death was kind of cliche, it served some decent humor so I'm thankful for that. The teacher was such a creep though.

There was one thing that bothered me, which is why Misato never commented on the sexual harassment he got from the 'groper' on the train; even though it was clear that it bothered him so much that he changed his schedule and I'm willing to bet that it still traumatizes him even till this day. I get that a victim's mentality is kind of hard to say and that he is embarrassed about being harassed, especially because it's a guy that's doing it. But that doesn't dignify it. It's really not a good mindset to have and I wished that it was explored a bit more. Misato should had DEFINITELY fought back. He fought back against Taira so why couldn't he do the same to the pedophile?

I don't want to talk about the one-shot story from Chapter 5; I skipped through it. I think the tags served its purpose well. That kind of stuff is NOT my cup of tea, and I'm quite shocked about the abrupt tone change, but I guess we can't have everything.

Overall, this was a good manga with cute and lovable characters and a decent plot! 8/10!

The main story is cute but very average.

Ch.5 is an unrelated oneshot with a completely different emotional tone. It gave me similar psychological vibes as Asumiko Nakamura (though not even close to her level). Also super reminded me of Ibitsu Na Kakera by Ogawa Chise and Deichuu no Hasu by Tamekou which I feel are both better psychological incest BL.

Overall though, I was disappointed with chapter 5. I think it had potential but with so few pages it fell flat. Would have liked to see it as a full volume so the characters, their motivations, and backstories could be explored further. It was also quite jarring sandwiched between the main story chapters. Though I wonder if this was an intentional marketing decision.

Main story isn't too bad; it's generally cute enough and I like all the students introduced, from main to side characters. I think I prefer the comedic moments to the 'twist' and darker elements of the story though, not just because of the latter's own unpleasant nature but also how the mangaka executed them. I mean her attempt isn't the worst, she just couldn't really make it more interesting than many other takes on the same trope out there, and I also wish it was integrated more seamlessly onto the main storyline.
The standalone oneshot at the end is pretty creative and intriguing I'll give it that, but I don't think I'd like to revisit it again any time soon.
