At first good but not anymore

At first it was good, I stopped reading when the dragon came.

First, the character development sucks.
Estelle acts like a baby and childish even though she's a teenager (Maybe it's because of her childhood trauma), but she has her previous life memories. Maybe it would've been much better if she didn't have memories of her previous life.

Second, ML sucks
No hate, I love Emiel. But nope, I'm not agreeing him to become the ML. I'm fine with age gap, but the thing is that he met Estelle when she was little and he was a teenager. His personality (kinda like yandere), I'm fine with it but he has so many secrets.

Third, Estelle sucks.
No hate, I love her when she confronts other nobles by using Castiello's name. But she's selfish, when she founds out that Emiel has terrible personality she keeps denying it because he never treat her like that. When Emiel said sorry to her for hiding his personality, I believe she said that it's fine because he didn't treat her like that (she didn't even try to change Emiel's personality and didn't care about the victims of his violent practice). Yeah and her character development sucks, she's acting childish but when her father was out on a war with a dragon and she needs to lead the war that is happening she decided to change her personality just like that by wearing more mature clothes (honey, wearing mature clothes doesn't change your personality).

Ok this is all, but I'll give you this.
The story was so good until her birthday came (her first birthday)
Honestly, this is the most regrettable story I've read till now.

I am a Child for 50 chapters, then I am a woman with bad taste in men.

Let's not beat around the bush, I can't stand the ML. Most people complain about the age difference, or how creepy it is that he knew her when he was already an adult and she was a little child and while that is kinda creepy, I would find it in me to overlook this - if the ML had any redeeming qualities.
But he constantly lies to her, never tells her anything, doesn't trust in her abilities at all, and 100 chapters in he turns super aggressive and backstab-y.
I'm gonna continue reading this for my girl Estelle, but I am gonna vomit over the happy ending that the author is trying to sell me here. I wish they'd just remove Romance from this and have this be a family drama.

I think this is actually the typical shojo-romance, but it's charming

If I have to compare it with other romance-fantasy shojo webtoon, I think this one is quite typical. A story about an abandoned child who turns out to be a illegitimate child of a duke. Fortunately, a spirit user. She fell in love with her personal knight, and their status as a master and a knight became a hindrance.

Very typical, in my opinion. But I'm not sure why, of all the webtoon title I have on my reading list, this one is the one that charms me the most, and got me excited whenever a new episode is out. It's really worth it to spend some cash to buy the episodes!

Pink eyes don't sound pretty, more like disease

The popularity of this story baffles me. It belongs to the trope of cute-little-poor-girl-and-her-menacing-father-who-hates-everyone-except-his-c ute-daughter, which is why I wouldn't suggest it to anyone who likes that trope since there are many other better manhwa in that trope that you can read.

I can vaguely recall the plot but only because it is so generic where literally nothing happens. There is no tension, barely any conflicts, and certainly no climax. Oftentimes, when a story moves slowly, people say it's because the story is more character-oriented. But by God, the characters are bland cardboard cutouts, from the MC all the way to the antagonists. If the horses had lines, I bet they too would be boring.

But my biggest beef is with the MC. I don't know why the need to reincarnate a character if you're never going to use the advantage of having lived a previous life. She is definitely not smart or mature, a damsel in distress who waits to be saved by her father, her brother, her knight, and basically everyone else because of course they all love her. Readers who don't like the manhwa that much say that at least she is adorable but I have to disagree on that point. This cold-blooded viper heart of mine needs more to be won over than some skin deep beauty alone.

The art is pretty good and I like that the story explores PTSD (tho not as educationally as I hoped), but I'm not the biggest fan of the ship that seems to be sailing

the guard and the MC
. It's just a bit bland. Also, I read the free translation, which made it harder to enjoy the series without cringing at the bad translation issues. It's not even humorously bad. It's incomprehensibly bad. Stuff end up not making much sense and the readers have to do a lot of mental guess work. That's on me for choosing piracy over supporting the official translation, unfortunately.

The story also doesn't really flesh out the brother/dad duo very well yet after 85 chapters. They are seen as inhuman and we don't get to much more other than their

fawning over the MC and being cold to everyone else
. The side characters seem slightly bland and there just aren't enough interactions to make the side characters seem real, but that's a problem frequently seen in all forms of fiction...

Overall, I liked it enough to keep reading. For a better experience, I highly recommend actually paying for the official english translation...

I can't rate this highly enough. Devoured it in one sitting (or at least, what's up of it).

It reminds me a bit of 'The Monster Duchess and the Contract Princess' in the sense that there's a little girl who's been poorly treated who ends up in a huge house with a wealthy parent. It's a really feel-good read because she's welcomed into her new family and there's a nice hint of fantasy mixed in with some surprising dramatic twists.

I know some people have been saying they don't like the budding romance with the knight, but I am 100% in love with it. If this doesn't happen I'm gone. Their relationship is so sweet with so much potential and I totally disagree that there's no chemistry. Just thinking about what's to come between them is making the wait a huge pain >_<
I know the argument is that she was a child when he started protecting her, but it's not like she stays a child, and age gaps are a fact of life in a lot of healthy relationships.

This is my favourite Isekai manga, although the isekai element is straight up abandoned. It's mentioned that she remembers her life in Korea, and then that's kind of it on the isekai front.

But I've decided to drop it after i found out who the male lead is (based off of spoilers from the novel).

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It's the escort knight thats watched over her since she was young (11? I think) he's literally watched her grow up and they're rather close. Its not like they only met in passing or something. She may be an adult when the romance begins but I'm too squicked out about this adult caregiver (of a sort) turning romantic lover to keep reading especially because of my next point-

Impotant to note: while the female lead does have memories from her past life. They don't seem to influence her too much. She still acts and behaves very much like a child. (Which was super cute and adorable!) I actually forgot that she had been reincarnated until I reread the manga summary.

the love interest was going to be her knight who is like 10 years older and helped raise from a child. It made me pretty uncomfortable and I dropped the title.

The female lead is very cute! But maybe a little flat and a bit of a Mary Sue. Everyone absolutely ADORES the female lead so there very little conflict in the webtoon for a pretty long time. So it’s boring (but still cute) sometimes.

Update: OOF I’m not sure but I think the ML might end up being her guard and I’m not on board with that hope she meets a different guy otherwise it’s weird for me yuck

clarify translation stuff

in general I like this series, it's decent and cute, but this isn't a review there are just people saying stuff about the translation and I thought I should explain

there are two translations of this series going around, one from miss mystery scans and one from manga ru scanlation. they should be easy to differentiate because mangaru translate the title as "I am a child of this house" and the miss mystery scan title is "I am a child of house castielo"

I've read a lot of fantranslations over the years, and I don't say this often, but the mangaru translation is truly unreadable. basic dialogue is translated decently, however nuance is lost and anything more complicated that a simple exchange is butchered. plot points are not conveyed, and you will be lost if you read this translation

the miss mystery scans version is much better, however it isn't their translation, it's a rip and re-upload of the official english translation, which is linked to in the description and you would otherwise have to pay for.

I'm not going to give a anti-piracy lecture, but I think if you're interested in the series from the mangaru translation, you should pay for the official english translation. it's not expensive and you would be supporting the author/artist. plus the MMS rips seem to stop at chapter 35, so you kind of have to.

anyway, that's it. I struggled through a mix of the official translation and the manga ru translation before I realized what was up, so I figured I'd share
