Enjoyable.. to roast

Idk why everyone don't like this manhwa because personally, I love it. It got all the necessary ingredients for roasting especially the ML (oh man damn you're stunning but why so dumb?)

And FL. Don't get me start with her because in my honest opinion, she's plain like really lacking in something but I can't pinpoint.

My favorite characters are two which are the other Emperor from another empire (ENTP), truly enjoyable. And, Princess Ariel. She's pretty.

Ok that's all bye ~

P/s: hey author *sigh* you really should search for more reliable sources when trying to portray culture that 180° different from yours. What's up with the random background a Muslim praying when they said, "they gonna fasting bla
bla" 😕 It's not related at all bruh 😩😂

The FL is good at everything. That's it. However, she is just so friggin dumb that it's frustrating. I don't see why the ML is so in love with her (and he's... lowkey kind of terrifyingly obsessed). She just keeps putting herself down. There's no appeal to a character when the whole time she just goes "ooohhh... I don't deserve this... I don't deserve that... I don't deserve anything........." and then cries and tries to run away. Like girl... You have the power to be good at literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. And you're a hidden princess!

It was good for the first few chapters but after a while it gets kind of boring. I'm 70 something chapters in and it gets tiring seeing her put herself down every single time. I really just wanted to tell her to get over it LMAO.

If you like cliche mary sue stories, maybe this is for you.

Good comfort manhwa

This manhwa is cliche and FL in this one is absolutely a Mary Sue but that's honestly what makes it enjoyable. It's good at delivering a very wholesome and chill story that I like reading after binging heavier stuff.

Mary Sue MC... and I'm fine with that.

This is a mary sue story. Our MC literally has the power to dream up any solution to her problems. But I knew that from the moment I saw her powers that I shouldn't expect much when it comes to writing stakes and conflict. So I guess, unlike the others that aren't enjoying this series, I didn't have my expectations broken. This is a light feel-good story. Don't think about it too deeply and just enjoy the melodrama.

Dropped at Chapter 39

I did sort of like it but at around chapter 35ish I started getting the feeling that this was going to be one of those comics that are just ridiculously long and drawn out so I went looking for spoilers.... And yeah, it's totally one of those. Also, while I love a good Mary Sue, this story does progressively creep over into "bad" Mary Sue territory.

The art is pretty! It's got that at least. Idk, if it was shorter I'd probably finish it but its gearing up to be at least 150 chapters (probably more) and I just don't want to dedicate that much time to something this mediocore.

Compared to everything else I've read, it's most similar to Lady Elise: Lady with the Lamp. Instead of a past life, Marie has magical dreams. It sounds cool but, in reality, it has has the effect of making her seem less compelling as a character (compared to Elise) and it exaggerrates her status as a Mary Sue in a very unflattering way. With Lady Elise, I stopped reading 2/3 of the way in and skipped to the end; really wished I skipped to the end sooner. I regret spending so much time on it and that's why I won't spend more time on this story that I like even less. There are a few minor similarities to Beatrice but that's more josei while this is more shoujo. I think Beatrice also executes the themes better then A Capable Maid does.

In hindsight, Marie from A Capable Maid really seems like someone tried to fuse Chloe from Beatrice with Elise from Lady with a Lamp and... it didnt work.

Kinda Racist

OK, I really enjoyed this in the beginning. I'm not going to mention all the reasons I stopped, just one: Islamaphobia. [See Chp. 42-44]

In all fairness, maybe the Korean author was trying to be historically accurate with the attitude of a western society towards their clearly Muslim neighbors. But when your whole cast, including the MC and ML, are fine with calling a nation they receive delegations from and do trade with "Savages" and no one corrects them? Yeah, major red flags.

Also, even the MC, who was supposed to be understanding of the foreign culture only knew enough about them to solve the problem, all while showing disdain for them as well. Also, how did you do enough research about Islam to know what foods are halal (yes they said HALA in the manga), but still go through with this arc? Don't forget they look down on them and act like they're being charitable WHILE trying (and suceeding) to get the most benefit out of them.

In short, I hate the uncontested arrogance and discrimination the main characters (and everyone else) show towards another culture.

Another Day Another Mary Sue

A Capable Maid? More like A Mary Sue Maid. Sis can do anything and everything and as a result everyone falls in love with her.

I might be okay with it if she only receives a "dream" like once a year or if she has to sacrifice something really significant for it. But nuh-uh. All she has to do is close her pretty little eyes, sleep, and voilà! She gets all kinds of skills from masters from other dimensions.

How truly fantastic🙂

Logic seems non existent in this manhwa. Ex: MC doesn't recognize the prince despite having spoken with him face to face multiple times.

All in all: 3* for the art. Aside from that? Zero, zip, nada.

I stuck around because the art is really good, but when I got to the Sherlock part, I couldn't stand it anymore. Way too dumb and cringey.

Very Bad

Cute, but exceedingly childish and fairy-tale like, all is just too convenient (the dreams, her not being found out, she not realizing who the prince is, the prince using a mask in the first place... why? she being sent to work to so many places, it's a royal palace, they sure are understaffed huh? and so on).
The author's skills are really lacking, story is quite dumb, MCs ain't particularly interesting and make no sense... save the art there is nothing to see here.
Couldn't get past ch10.

Capable maid more like master of cheat codes

Glad that people who left their reviews feel the same. I was wondering why it was highly recommended and decided to give it a try.

At the start, I felt uncomfortable that the FML gained her abilities through her dreams which is pretty much convenient. But after reading several chapters, this power boost felt forced and convenient. I can't stress how convenient her "dreams" were. Since, I'm quite particular with the character growth, I gave up making excuses for it.

Rolling my eyes moments:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
She dreamt of Sherlock in order to solve the arson in the castle. It was just too ridiculous to read. Should have dropped it when she dreamt of Mozart and proceeded to finish a musical composition. 😒 Since Kusuriya no Hitorigoto and Nodame Cantabile are my favorites, I felt insulted.

I was hoping that the MML would fall in love with her personality and not because of her outstanding skills. But apparently, as one user reviewed, this is not the case.

Glad, I didn't stick around to feel further heartaches and disappointment. Art is pretty good, tho. Personality wise, the characters had potential. I don't mind the typical shoujo reverse harem and love triangles. I just wanted to remove her dream power boosts but then that's what the manga is about..

Lacking ACTUAL character-building
by LUEser
August 17th, 2020, 7:27am
Rating: 4.0  / 10.0
The artwork is generally very "pretty" and colorful. Of course, this also means that most characters look the same and they are a little hard to tell apart. Besides the typical differentiation of hair & eye colors, the characters are not too memorable nor are they relatable to. The mangaka should have emphasized more on important characters and introduce a small amount of characters at a time, especially since 3-5 new characters are introduce in every chapter. They are a little hard to keep track of since we don't know of their importance entirely.

The "character-building" aspect of the manga is sorely lacking. It's ironic that a war prisoner princess who hides her identity by pretending to be a maid never gained her skills through hard work, but through "dreams". Through one dream at a time, she gains one skill that is implied that she will need it for an oncoming and unforeseen future event. It is also something which seems to have caught the attention of love interests. But when you take away these skills because of her "dreams", she does not have much for survival in a new kingdom and her deep kindness would not have gotten her far. So the idea of a "capable maid" surviving on skills that she dreamt and not through actual hard work is a little underwhelming.

Besides these facts, this is a very typical romantic manga with reverse harem: all of the cliche, none of the plot in depth. I've caught up to the 30+ chapters but I will be dropping this talentless read.
