A collection of plot points that made me go "hmmm".

This is pretty damn run-of-the-mill for a yaoi, with a thin plot that's there to lead to the sex, and even that happens right in the first chapter. The art's fine. The best character is Aki's FWB, because he saw how ridiculous the entire situation is and just had fun with it.

I didn't like how Akihiko (Aki) takes advantage of Aiichiro (Ai)'s feelings for him (it's explained later on, at least), while Ai cries and mopes until Aki accepts him—even Aki points out that Ai doesn't listen to a word he says, and just does what he wants. Ai also has some strange views, like wondering if it's "unfaithful" because they had sex outside of dating officially (but neither was sleeping with anyone else, so...?).

And, of course, we can't have a character that is simply happy with no-strings-attached sex, without wanting a relationship — no, of course he has to have a trauma related to sex, that is healed so that he can be "fixed" into a relationship.

Of course, it all ends in a generic happy relationship, but comes across as empty because we see no bonding moments between them—all they do is work, have sex, and argue. The story carries this unpleasant vibe of "Ai knows better what Aki really needs", because the opposite is communicated explicitly within the story and because the spoilered plot device is tired and overdone. Again, this is just run-of-the-mill for yaoi, which Isn't That Deep, but it was still annoying to read.

I powered through it but was already bored by chapter 2.

I couldn’t cheer for the couple because …

My review is not really about the manga on itself (it was good even if the ending felt a bit cut short), but more on the couple.

One thing I really despise in fictional and irl romance is someone forcing their beliefs and morals on someone else. Akihiko didn’t want to be in a serious and exclusive relationship, he was clear about that. He only wanted casual sex with men and women. Not everyone wants to be in a monogamous relationship, be married, have kids, a job, and a dog.
Ai came with this delusional image of « Akahiko the successful author » and was disappointed when he wasn’t what he imagined. He then spent the entire time trying to force Akihiko into an exclusive relationship, even went behind his back to know about Akihiko’s past and finally had his way with him. Instead of just you know … going for someone looking for an exclusive relationship like him …

That’s why I couldn’t cheer for this couple because it was clear that Akahiko didn’t want this type of relationship. It didn’t help either that the manga ended right after Akihiko accepted Ai’s advances.

That’s why I love manga like Happy Shitty Life (Harada) or Yarichin Bitch Club (Ogeretsu Tanaka) where there are non exclusive couples, friends with benefits relationships and casual sex and it’s perfectly fine like that.
