Starts well, ending is a bit of a mess

First, I have to say this is better than most series aimed at high school girls.
The art is unique and enjoyable.

There is a lot of mystery in the beginning, but the unraveling of the mystery is extremely fast paced because it doesn't really make sense, so you have to speed over it to reach the end and hope no one notices, and it mostly works on people. It "felt" right in the end, so why not ?

I don't get the draw of a man being mean to you, I really really don't. This isn't a case of the male MC being mean to everyone but the FMC, no, he was particularly mean to the FMC... but it is very popular ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe women like to feel "abused" similarly to how men like to be "terrified" by horror ? I don't know.

Major major spoilers:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
* The emperor is a sociopath and a narcissist and is completely at fault for everything going wrong. This needs to be said. He mishears something and immediately decides the "love of his life" is going to betray him so he must kidnap her and hold her captive for the rest of her life.

* The emperor broke mentally way too quickly. A cycle is a few months, being a non-aging, prime of your life, richest most powerful man alive for a few years isn't that hard. Eat good food, travel the world, read something. A lot of people would have loved it. I can imagine some frustration after 50 years or something, but it only took about half of that and he burned himself and others alive after only several years. As far as we were told, he didn't even try to do something nice for anyone besides himself or the FMC in all that time or grow as a person. It basically returns to the Emperor being a weak horrible person.

* It doesn't really make sense the emperor and the players combined couldn't easily end the game. Everyone wanted the game to end. The players, the emperor with the admin powers, the game master, even those who trapped them in the game wanted the game to be playable. There was a period of time the game was broken, but presumably all that time the evil company outside was working on the fix. It is unclear why he even needed to go for the armed revolt scenario and not the much easier "become Empress" route. Or why couldn't he abdicate peacefully ? None of this is ever explained in the story and to the target audience it apparently doesn't matter.

* The Emperor killed a lot of people for basically no reason. Consider he fully cooperated with a complete Hannibal Lecter level psychopath for no reason. She was completely unnecessary for his plan. His behavior is the complete opposite of the whole creed of the FMC. He caused many people unnecessary pain, just because the world might reset or it isn't "real". He dehumanized the world he lived in even more than the outsiders.

Minor spoilers:

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Not exactly a problem and this is a relatively small part of the story, but some of the main characters are high school kids and their problems are "high school kid problems". They are serious life altering things, but not truly tragic. Just life being hard. Maybe one of them had a more serious problem. This is something like adult problems hitting teenagers and them reacting poorly kind of thing.

This comment is here primarily to remind me of my opinion on this work.

I really liked the art and the beginning, but got really unmotivated to continue around chapter 70-ish. Stopped reading chapter 86. Although the stakes remained high, the frustrating contrivances being used to progress the plot undermined my affection for the characters such that I just didn't care anymore. I think that's why it felt like so much of a slog, despite the decent plot pacing. Tried to see it through to the end because there are some great things about this manhwa, but it started to feel like a chore and I would rather my non-work activities be joyful, not obligatory. Still, a 7 seems appropriate - one need not bring me to the ultimate destination in order for me to admit to some degree of satisfaction at the journey.

The art is adorable.
The concept is what intrigued me and i got hooked up, almost finished it in a day (if it wasn't for more twist after twist after twist). Bless their romantic journey.

One of the Best Things I've Ever Read

I'm still reeling from this series so I hope I'm coherent. First off, this series is… but that's a spoiler… but it's already there in the tags… what do I do…

It's very, very carefully constructed. Everything ties up together. And the moment when it's all coming together is so incredibly satisfying, because all the small hints have been there from the START. It's genuinely beautifully orchestrated and executed.

However, I wouldn't recommend it if all you want is a trope-y isekai romance. If you don't like SciFi, this isn't for you. If you don't like complex characters, this isn't for you. If you don't like dealing with oh, so many moral and existential dilemmas, this is NOT for you.

Everything was dealt with and presented most beautifully and elegantly. This work is truly wonderful, if you are an audience capable of enjoying its themes. The start's apparently a little slow (personally didn't feel it but then again, I go into a new series with negative expectations each time) according to others, but I promise it's worth it. 11/10.

The hype is certainly valid.

I almost didnt give this a shot due to the art cover, but after seeing so much hype on it I decided to give it a go.

And the hype was certainly valid, at least to me.

The art was different and I thought would be a con for me but after the 1st chapter, I came to love it so much.

The characters are very lovable. The development is certainly there!

I tried guessing the ending but was seriously surprised with it.

Even 2 weeks after finished reading this, it is still on my mind.

Give it a go.

Romance sci-fi

The start was a bit rough, even the author said so in their note at the end, but even so it was an enjoyable read, however in the second half those endless plotwists became a bit tiring, also I didn't like the inconsistency of Yona's feelings towards the emperor. Her being so merciful was kinda annoying. Thankfully Sangjae/Lily was there and often made chapters better especially his friendship with Yona was amusing. Another pros was that no one was the main villain, almost everyone there at some point had their antagonistic arc.
That whole talk about fake/virtual realities got a bit repetitive after time. But I must admit that the plot was rather fresh and I don't regret reading this series, it was good, just didn't match my tastes to the fullest.
As for the ending, I liked the perspective of the emperor and the experience he had to go through. However, I think it's ridiculous that he'd rather make his beloved suffer through 103 loops full of pain just for him to have a chance of atonement rather than simply make her an empress and be done with it...

Also, for the comment below me from tigerstar186: Not everyone there was doing something for other person,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Moonmoon betrayed Ranhee because of her delusional love, Empress dowager was conspiring because of her hunger for power and Baekryun was mental.

The politics and intrigue looked promising, but the execution and characters are terrible

The author has a weird habit of revealing a tragic backstory after every female villain is exposed. No concubine is truly evil in this world, which goes directly at odds to the genre of both the story and the game. Every time they do something wrong or morally dubious they are doing it for their friend, their child, or their own misconceptions about what actually occurred. The only exception to this rule is the character the MC is possessing, the "villainess" of the game who effectively stops existing the second the series starts. Even her own misdeeds don't really come back to her, at all.

Interestingly the same is not true of the male characters in this series. They are allowed to be brutal, self-serving, and evil, and are actively glorified for it. The two male love interests are both effectively subtler yanderes whose only interest is "loving" the main character, which effectively manifests as an obsession with owning and controlling her rather than any level of mutual respect or interest.

The only character who gets a significant portion of screen time outside of the disgusting male leads and Yona herself is Lili. Lili is a character with potential, being the narrative opposition to the mc in the original story and having her own secrets. Unfortunately the author quickly retcons any of her antagonistic feelings and actions, and instead shunts the character into the role of plot propellant and narrative expositor. Lili no longer has any real purpose and only serves to move things along or be useful to the mc.

Worst of all is the MC herself. She is a genuine idiot, both intellectually and emotionally. She is constantly pulled along into the conspiracies of the other concubines and the two male love interests and never actually acts on her own. She is a reactive character and her reactions are always stupid. She has seen the murderous and cruel sides of both male leads but is still deluded into thinking they have genuine love for her and swoons constantly. Even the few times she gets one up on a conspirator against her, it is always propelled by someone else. Someone else reveals the problem to her and presents a solution, all she has to do is act along with it. She has no real personal motivation beyond escaping the game, and even that she constantly ignores for her whims to be horny with the male leads and to play nice with concubines who theoretically want her dead. I might be more okay with the naive innocence if this was still early in the story, but at this point she has been living in the game for literal months (if not years!) and is still as useless and refusing to be proactive as ever.

I hate this series and regret reading it. It constantly taunts you with the concept of it becoming better and never does, and at times even seems to spite you for thinking it might.

A great Otome spin on the trapped in a VR game concept

Beautifully drawn from start to finish and packed with plot twists and genuine heart. This manhwa starts slow but it handles the premise really well. Each character presents a different perspective on game and world and what is 'real' and important.
The ML, Sunshine is a confounding and intriguing character and this manhwa will absolutely break your heart at some point. The twists are heartwrenching, shocking, and genuinely add value upon re-read. This is a real gem of the genre that will leave you thinking about it after you read it.
Just as a warning, this manhwa accumulates intrigue over time so it starts a bit slow, it's also not what I would call a light read.

- read up to all the avail chapters (63ish) and then some (found some extra translations up to 83) cuz i fucking love this series
- court intrigue! chinese ambient! stylized art! lots of fun, gripping storylines! actual mystery! unpredictable characters! great writing and characterization! even the font matches its vibe! real plot twists!
- i actually really like the fl (yona turned into ranhee). she's really funny and i like her relationship w the player!lili a lot. they're like siblings and yona is such an emotionally strong fl! she's still a teenage girl but she's a realistic modern woman who actually keeps her values
- idk who i'm rooting for ml wise. the romantic development between yona and ml2 (guard) is very sparse and one-sided. yona + ml (emperor) is a lot more interesting. i have so many theories as to who he actually is because i love this manhwa so much omg!
- the world is so incredibly unique and intricate. the characters, the game setting, the game master, the ai, etc. everything is so perfectly arranged and with their own minds. even the world back home - this isekai actually addresses the other half of what isekai is supposed to be about! relation to the modern world!

overall: 9/10 probably def going to shift to 10/10 as it grows bc i'm still waiting to see how this plays out (got some kinks and complaints i'd like to see it change) but for now i am so enraptured by it. absolutely impressed. genuinely one of my new favorite manhwas of all time, very much recommended!
