No clue what the other reviewer is talking about, it was very clearly yaoi from the first chapter--is cute progression, with inevitable development into a romantic relationship. Like Kiraide Isasete, pretty green flag ML for yaoi, and I like the supernatural elements! Only downside is the ending feels a bit rushed.

It started with lots of potential. The mermaid curse looks cool and creepy at the same time and the way Umi hided himself seemed to hint at an interesting story. The relationship between the funny Mikage and the innocent Umi slowly developed. We get to know about their pasts and it slowly pulls them together. The fish ghosts are great characters as well, maybe even the best in the whole manga.
But then suddenly the mangaka decided to ridiculously turn the story into a Yaoi in a very cheap way. It's so sad. The characters didn't need such a cheap trick (I don't want to spoiler) to get closer. It would've been better to just skip the respective chapter. It's like the manga took a 180° turn from a good lovely manga to a smut one.
