Short review
The narrative sets itself as a war story with a more or less serious tone, with some nice comedic and breather moments. With an intriguing thriller-like opening chapter banger, and with a sweet dose of a vanilla protagonist, but it misses the mark for a perfect score.
Pros
- Enjoyable comedy; not too extreme but more on the cute, chill, fluffy side
- Consistent tone and pacing; no weird whiplash
Cons
- Sub-developed side characters. Rationale: While this aspect is not an issue at the beginning nor on their own, constantly having side characters like this can lessen emotional delivery and impact if something were to happen to them e.g. deaths, shocking relevations, etc.
- Underdeveloped backgrounds. Rationale: it's a war story, and better background rendering could have helped in creating a more immersive atmosphere
- Action scenes are wet as a puddle. Rationale: It's a war story, adding intensity is kind of a given to feel the high stakes. Having super basic action makes it not very engaging even feel lamey.

The series feel more boring for me to read after she becomes a human due to less potential for shenanigans and sense of danger is diminished.

Feels like there could be a lot more potential in resolving why she turned to a bird but it's pretty much just handwaved with ah la lah royal blood the will of gods ez way out; feel like it could have become a more intriguing subplot; just missed opportunity
tl;dr: Not bad but could be better; it won't be a total waste of your time if you have no backlog. But if you do have a backlog of series you love to complete, stick to them.
Longer review for those with too much extra time on their hands (not properly proofread, just me ranting out all my stream of thoughts in a disorganized way)
The flashbacks sometime get a bit too much for me and kinda ruins the pace. One or two time is enough, but then you get the same flashback like 3-5 times, hm...
The biggest strength of this series for me is is that the serious and the comedy's balance is nice; although the war blah blah kinda gets old and feels contrived of the plot. It is not "badly paced" just like a different favor... FEELS LIKE A PERIODICAL K-DRAMA at times...
I didn't really enjoy the saccharine moment
after she got found out from chpt 52-55 or something
, because it was cringe as it stood out too much from the rest of the tone; a bit more subtlety OR rarity would make the "moments" more precious. but then the banters came back and it's good fun again. but unfortunately, the stakes feel kinda low at that point and less engaging.
The side characters and the subplots are not the best developed; it feels like it's really about the female lead and the male lead 90% of the time; it kind of makes the world's scale feels small. so when trying to pivot the progression of the story to another direction it kind of feel less enthralling to read. Maybe make the scope more increased at the beginning of the story might've helped; but the tone is already established and now it just feels odd and somewhat unsatisfying to read. So even if characters die, due to them being underdeveloped, there will be less impact. Even if the "stakes" are supposedly high, the way the author/illustrator frame it does not make it feel that way. Maybe add in more gore and more powerful action scenes might help with the impact.
The art is also lacking and could have been better for when it comes to background & paneling. I feel like 90% of the energy of the artist is focused on the male lead's bod which is like... yeah cool fanservice look at his MUSCLE but story-wise it kinda sells short.
Conclusion, and how I would evaluate it on a target audience-tailored basis
So... If you love periodical k-drama storytelling style it's a 8.5/10 for you; otherwise refer the score I gave. It's kinda of a chill story but lacks an extra oomph to score higher. I feel like it has a great foundation but falls short a bit due to resource limitations (time, budget to model and hire extra assistants). It's a solid work with some nitpicks only stringent critics would care; if you are a casual reader that vibes well with the genre and tags you might like it. If you are a action war story fan you might find it underwhelming.
