Pure Shounen

In my opinion, this series is shounen manga in its purest form. A weak boy becomes a strong man through intense training. Throw in some gags and some ecchi and it turns into one of the best all-around shounen series.

Good anime and manga

I first had an interest in this manga when I watched an anime episode, and I was hooked right at the very start. It is a very engaging fantasy -- that a spineless weak person can aspire to be strong if he's pure of heart, and that really strong and powerful people will be willing to help you with only this as your qualification. In the real world, such a thing can never happen. However, wouldn't it be great if this were so?

That's why I feel really good after enjoying segments of this anime and manga. The crazy training methods that the masters resort to in order to strengthen Kenichi are really funny sight gags.

Fights in both the anime and the manga tests Kenichi's martial spirit and purity of resolve. It's the sort of fiction that is unreal in its idealism, and requires a great deal of suspension of disbelief. Still, this element does not detract from its basic charm.

waa, HSD K just getting more and more interesting, not for comedy but for the martial art. The mangaka must have researched many martial art styles around the world. Excellent work!
It's already been over 30 volumes. Probably will run for over 60 vols smile

i was just going through few mangas and stumbled upon this at one point highly ovelooked manga.

But you gotta give it to those two translators who did something impossible and unimaginable.

After sept 15 from chap 161 to today chap 274 ....thts 114 chaps in 2 months

This manga belongs to these to these two peolpe's hardwork and of course loads of scanlators who take there time to clean and typeset this manga.

I wish somebody does the same to my fav mangas as well but what they have done should be aplauded.

"Fuurinji Human Shuriken!"

While slightly ecchi and with average art, this manga makes up for all of that by being utterly hilarious! Kenichi is in a nutshell, a generic shounen manga written with generous amounts of satire. It's the satire that makes it so funny. It's actually one of the funniest mangas I've ever read, with great characters and the best lines.

Essentially an awesome manga. I recommend it to everybody unless you don't like physically impossible boobs.

It is slowly being Bleach-ified

This series started out fantastic, the action was awesome, the plot entertaining for a shounen, the humour hilarious. But ever since the kidnapped miu arc I noticed that the chapters were beginning to resemble Bleach chapters in terms of pacing and use of pages. Large portions of a chapter's pages are used for unnecessary dialogue or closeups of characters. Events or story lines that could have been covered in a couple of chapters take twice if not thrice as long to cover. I find it very frustrating to have to endure a month if not longer of looking at the same fight being played out as if in slow motion. On a personal note I hate how
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kenichi recovers so damn quickly after his fight with brainwashed miu and the giant weapons guy, it would have been far more interesting for their relationship as well as character development if Kenichi was unable to fight due to the serious injuries he so obviously sustained and Miu to realize she was responsible for it. Instead of the infuriatingly crappy "Oh thanks for snapping me out of my brainwashing." "No problem, now let's fight together as if I haven't gone through 15 chapters of getting brutalized by you and the giant sword guy!" scene that happened.
that still makes my blood boil every time I think about it.

My advice to you is to read up until just before Miu get's kidnapped and then put this serioes on you hold list for the next 4 or 5 months until this arc is over, which it still isn't much to my chagrin.

I can see how various people think that this manga is repetitive.
That being said however its a manga about martial arts ie. fighting...lots of it.

To fully enjoy this managa however, you probally need some kind of backstory in martial arts. I have been a martial artist myself for 6 years. It doesnt feel repetive to me in anyway because many martial arts are frequently introduced, as well as different types of fighters. Ranging from a little girl to a 7 foot 16 year old, each with there own fighting style. I find each martial art introduced extremly interesting while most may just breeze over it without noticing.

Each managa has a targeted audience and this one is geared to martial artists. Unless you have a prior understanding of martial arts you wont get 100% out of this manga

This one is surely a good one. But the story is quite straight forward. Sometime I hope It'd be more complex. But put aside that fact, this manga is great and recommend for relaxing.
