Grew up alongside Naruto, despite it's shortcomings and dragging on towards mid-end it is still the quintessential manga of my generation

Exactly What You'd Expect

It's iconic for a good reason, but that also makes it generic quite often. If you don't like the typical anime shounen power of friendship stuff it's not for you, but otherwise it's very good.

Childhood ruined

So I read this manga when I was like 4th grade or younger. Fell in love with it INSTANTLY. Cried when Naruto cried because of Iruka, even learn how to use Chakra (I was stupid, but since I'm an Asian, I know that Chakra is a real thing, but don't know how to unlock it) to become a ninja.

I hate Sakura the most. GOD! Shut up! Sasuke even won't look or talk to you! Yet, she grows up and become rather good character after

Sasuke left Konoha

At least, I saw a character development in this manga, which is good.

I was not reading the manga, but also watching the anime, and honestly, after Naruto becomes Naruto Shippūden, it became rather bland. Even my mom who usually don't want to watch anime said Naruto was good before Shippūden. But OK, I couldn't judge an anime or a manga just after watching or reading 2-3 episodes/chapters of it. So I pushed myself forward, and dang... I wasted my time just to see

Naruto gaying Sasuke to come back to Konoha

As a typical shounen manga, I don't have any complaints if you want to train till your limit. It's a good shounen manga IF the character is not such a mary sue! Yeah, I mean you Naruto.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
All of his descendants have a connection on Hokage, yet people still treat him like a garbage. Huh?? Mary Sue enough?\Even his reincarnation is some kind of God ninja or something

I love Naruto because some of us can relate to him, making jokes and act stupid to cover the loneliness inside. But after so many chapters, I just saw him yelling about their dreams like Luffy from OP every single time. You know? To achieve your dream, you need to work hard and not lazying around while yelling out loud. And I know he will become the

SEVENTH HOKAGE

in the end of the series only after reading few chapters. Because how obsessed Kishimoto with that number. The story is too predictable and the story is there for Naruto can become the God Ninja Lord. The story is kinda rinse and repeat but not as extreme as Bleach. Too many characters, but only one template: emotionless.

The ending suck:

Everyone is married with KIDS now. At least, Hinata got to be with Naruto which is AWESOME. Sakura with Sasuke like HOW?? And for Sasuke substitute, there is Sai for Ino. Wait! Did they EVER talk to each other?? And after Naruto ends, they milk his son, BORUTO into a thing. Sadly Boruto is suck-er than his dad

I still love it

I will be short.
A lot of things could be said of this manga. I still remember watching Naruto anime as a kid, even though I don't really like the Shippuden LOL
People say it gets worse, I think it's just different by the end than at the beginning. The main points are not the same.
I agree that Sasuke and Naruto's conflict was dragged too long, and from my perspective, their fight should have been more epic and long... it was not enough for me. The 4th war arc seemed really long while reading it when we had to wait until next chapter, but if you reread it now that you don't have to stop in the middle... It almost feels like it's short hahaha
Naruto has changed a lot throught the years, but each part of the manga has its charms for me.
At first is more comical and the main point was Naruto trying to obtain the recognition of te village... and also the Kakashi team. Those two things were the middle of everything.
Then we get throught Akatsuki and Sasuke's conflict. I really liked it, because it was more emotional and intense.
When we get to the end, topics like war, peace and hate come around. At it was interesting too. Different.
It's possible that you like more the beginning, or the ending or the middle part... but they are all different and that makes this manga really good for me. You don't get tired of it.
I see a lot of people talking about the couples... I don't think that's the important thing of Naruto ending hahaha pat I will give my point of view:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Sasuke and Sakura being together seems natural for me... It's true that it could have been better explained... I still think that the "Sasuke problem's ending" was too rushed... but well. I think they end together because Sakura never stopped loving him, and at the end that makes him love her back. Sakura and Naruto? That doesn't make sense, would have been stupid. She never looked him that way. Why insist on making two good friends a couple when it's obvious there's nothing?

Naruto and Hinata was obvious since the beginning... and more since the Pain and Naruto fight. From that point those two had some "moments" that confirmed this was gonna be the outcome. I dind' find it surprising at all.

I read people saying it was absurd that Chouji married Karui. Why?? Chouji never showed interest in any particular way, and I found this outcome a smart way of uniting different ninja countries.

Sai and Ino? Not a crazy ending for me, either. Ino was never gonna end with Sasuke, that was 100% for sure hahaha And Sai is somewhat like Sasuke... but completely different, you get me? Those two had one funny moment when Sai called her "gorgeous" implying she was ungly lololol and then she imagined him and Sasuke fighting over her.

typical shounen jump

Its incredible when this was first published how good it was. All the characters were interesting and likable. You wanted to see them do cool ninja stuff, and the world they lived in was so interesting it really didn't matter what was going on. Fast forward 15 years later and this manga has turned into the worst that shounen jump has to offer. Half the characters are going super saiyan with planet destroying moves while the other half are fighting with wooden dolls. Generic war battles spanning across 30+ volumes and the end of the manga is so absurd I don't see how anyone could take it seriously.

The relationships leave something to be desired.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Most of the pairings at the end made no sense if you consider the rest of the manga. The only one that truly made sense was Shikamaru & Temari. Hell, Chouji ending up with a girl from the cloud village made more sense than some of the bigger pairings. Sai and Ino? What?

While I have my personal ships, I'm looking at this from a story stand point.

Hinata and Naruto - while I guess somewhat more plausible, it never felt more than a one sided crush to me. They barely ever interacted and it felt nothing more than that. Also I'm aware of the movie that shows them get together, but that was after the fact and frankly only find to fill in character development that wasn't in the manga.

Frankly after all he went through with her, Naruto should have ended up with Sakura.

Sakura and Sasuke - This pairing made no god damn sense to me. Sasuke shows he doesn't really her and tries to kill her on multiple occasions while Naruto is there to save her ass. He even symbolically stabs her in the heart so she doesn't interfere with their fight to the death. She has to have some form of Stockholm syndrome for it to make sense because there's no way she would be with him otherwise. Even after they are married, he neglects her and their kid Sarada.

Frankly Sasuke should have died.

All in all, this manga was ruined for me by terrible pairings.

Great series

Oh my childhood finally came to an end. Some people may be still be raging due to the pairings like Sakura didn't end up with Naruto or Karin should have went with Sauce. But was that the main point to this series? No. It was about Naruto never giving up on your dreams. Did it include being married to Sakura? No. It included with becoming hokage which was achieved and never forgotten about. That was the main point of this series. We got villains like kaguya, madara, orichimaru, obito etc. Also saving a friend from going to the dark side. Did Naruto achieve this? Yes. He did save sasuke. Did it take awhile? Yes it did. Did sakura dream come true. Yes. Did sasuke dream came true? Yes. A sad yes. Kishimoto already had the ending he wanted and I believe it was done well. And thank god it didn't take not 100+ volume to accomplish that. Unlike another series about pirates tho that one is still a fun but slow series. But the ending ended quite well and I thank him for creating this series cause it change the world.

Good but losing focus towards the end

I won't deny there are goodness in Naruto, but I won't put it up as the best manga ever written.

Naruto started strong because of the smartly depicted ninja fights and well designed characters. It remained good throughout the early phase, Naruto gradually got stronger while learning the source of his power and fighting stronger opponents. It was good, until suddenly things that are not ninja-like starts to appear. Well I can't really describe it even if I want to since I had practically just read it out of habit by that time.

The only thing that saves Naruto for me was the ending time. Mishima has made good decision by stopping it where it ends, even though it has already been dragged on by the time he did. Although I have no say about how it ends, I highly appreciate the series early on, the stories was great until the fights against Akatsuki ends.

I give it an 8, for its early chapters brilliance.
