This story is about a mix (half human half animal) cat named Toraji. Together with his master, they travel to find the mouse (yes, mouse!) responsible of both kidnapping his master's boy and also turning Toraji into a mix.

It's hard to not comparing this to either Basara or 7 Seeds (since I read both of them), but from what I have seen Toraji have some distinct features, especially in how light it is written. Unlike Basara and 7 Seeds that has darker themes, Toraji seems to be a fairly enlightening stories (at least in the first 2 vol). Since Toraji is both cute and bit of airhead himself (the fact that the story is somehow narated by him also contribute to the following), makes it hard to take it as serious as you might take Basara though you can definitely feel the similarities and sense of nostalgia of Sarasa's adventure in this series.

While I do enjoy this, I think it's a bit too cute for most Shonen readers. I think the fact that Tamura Yumi make a cat protagonist pretty much show who are this manga's main target (Toraji is really cute, I'll give you that). I still don't really know what I can expect from this series, but my initial impression is that it's fun to read. Recommended light read for anyone who loved Basara or any work from the author.

I wasn't enthused at first with having a cat character but I trust the mangaka so I decided to give this one a chance. And it did not disappoint. Only a few chapters in I'm ready to declare it as being in the same league as 7 Seeds and Basara.

I started to read it while waiting for 7Seeds to come out, and because the author is Tamura Yumi sensei of course(altough I don't read Basara after vol 1--don't like the strory).

Personally I like animal-based story, and Toraji is so adorable with his innocence (hey, he's a kitty). As a fantasy story it's also provided with many unsual and fascinating things. Along the journey, Pai Yan and Toraji met other mixs (fish mix, dog mix, adult cat mix, etc) and lot of people, it's also obvious that Pai Yan and Toraji relationship getting deeper but still like a relationship beetween master and (young) pet.

Toraji and 7Seeds seem like run in same time (in 2009 according to the released date for Toraji vol 3 and 7Seeds vol 16) so maybe i have to wait for a rather long time till both get published in my country or scanlated.

The plot does seem far-fetched at first...and though I rarely read things that don't involve a lot of romance, I was really captivated by this story. It is very original and well thought out. The characters are endearing and their stories are emotional. The cat is so cute too ^^
