So childish.
To be honest it's actually pretty interesting set up, a hanshin-kyojin couple. We won't see it often because of dreamy prince and damsel in distress plot as the majority does. But for good god, this one, I can't stand their personality at all. We have an annoying female lead and fun, caring male lead. I generously try to understand if the author's purpose was to show how difficult teenager's love is and their loose commitment about serious relationship. Still, it won't remove the annoying tag that this manga offers.

I don't know whether the fault lies on me if I take this too seriously? But how the main couple get together in a short of time doesn't make any sense for me. I was having fun seeing their interactions--precisely, argue over silly things, almost everytime. The female lead, Koizumi, fell in love first and she did her best to make him love her back. That feelings of being rejected--twice or thrice even, was so powerful and sad. And the strange things started here, I guess. Something that bugging me. Since the very beginning, the male lead, Otani, didn't have any feelings, ok? Koizumi was the one to break the ice cold then she confessed. Until the very end when they put some distance because of this Otani was forced to realize and made as heartless, bad guy as possible because he just didn't get it. Their gang of friends keep pressuring Otani, indirectly and directly, to do something about Koizumi's confession and act proper like a gentleman. Just, what. the. heck? (clap sfx) it's like "Someone just confessed to you, wake up you fucking dimwit." It's not the matter of consider anymore. I get the fun parts but the author shouldn't make a joke out of everything like it's funny to laugh at. I feel sympathy for the male lead because he always made fun of. Otani's love for Koizumi didn't grow naturally and that's the point. I feel the struggle to be loved back, but as if it's not enough, I'm riding on this annoying circle further more. It's the female lead, again.

I want to support Otani as hes-good-please-understand-him. He acts like a kid but has mature way of thinking. That part of him is cool. He knows how he treats his gf without the need to romantize everything. He is always be the one to out of his way and grow up more. Koizumi? "Notice me please" girl. She knows to piss off someone, inconsistent and hard to handle. As for the other characters, they are too busybody but not as bad as a friend.

Don't get me wrong. This is a very funny manga and I have no complains regarding any character... Except maybe a few?

First off, let me tell you that I've been reading a lot of oneshots lately. Maybe that's why a long series tires me out sometimes? Whatever be the reason, I must admit that a few things in Love com disappointed me. Actually, I'm not a very big fan of shoujo where the girl falls in love first. I still read them though, because sometimes they turn out good.

Love Com, however, didn't.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When Haruka appeared and Otani acted jealous, I was hoping that the two main leads will realize their feelings soon enough and end up together. But man, was I ever so wrong? Risa realized it first and gave her best to confess to Otani but he turned her down. I was fine with it, thinking maybe he'll realize it soon. BUT NO! He kept being mean to Risa and pointing out how he doesn't see her as a girl. It took him two volumes to admit that he likes her. I know it was meant to be funny, and sometimes I laughed as well, but to be honest it felt very sad. Moreover, after realizing her feelings for Otani, Risa started to cry a lot, which I didn't like. I pictured her as a tall and cool girl yet my hopes were shattered. Honestly speaking, I don't dislike Otani. But it's just that he was extremely childish and mean sometimes and I couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards Risa. It's as if all he ever thought about was himself. Though later on, he did become more mature and nice. But his act when Risa confessed was horrible.

Of course he is short and he feels awkward dating a tall girl, but I think the situation for Risa is equivalent. Besides, a girl being called 'giantess' by the guy she likes and continuously being told that she is a nuisance and that he would never date her is heartbreaking enough. Even though the dialogues were said in a comical way, Idk why Risa seemed sad. Of course she would be.

I know this manga aimed to make us laugh, and it surely succeeded, but it's not one of my preferred types. If you are looking for a manga where the couple are always bickering and turn the most serious situations into funny ones, you are at the right place. Since most of the comments are positive, I think the manga is fulfilling for a lot of readers. I honestly feel happy at how some of the situations were portrayed perfectly. But it's just me thinking that I'm probably not going to reread this manga anytime soon.

Maybe I'll properly review it again sometime. But that's all for now..

The focus on comedy was great! And it was nice that their love was based on the fact that they get along well and have fun together.

I did get a bit annoyed though because of how stupid they acted sometimes ;; But other than that, the characters were very lovable. I liked all the main pairings: Risa x Otani, Suzuki x Chiharu, and Nobu x Nakao.

The friendship moments were very cute also! ♡

An adorable, hilarious, shoujo comedy, though it does have some flaws.

The premise: Risa, a first-year in high school who finds herself romantically entangled with Otani, her friend.

The dilemma: Risa is 5'7". Otani is 5'1".

The result: A light-hearted, humorous romance manga that has great character development and a unique plot. It does a decent job of defying common shoujo stereotypes.

This manga is not a deeply profound, life-altering discourse on romance and friendship. It's great for some laughs, and I fell in love with Risa's persona. Unlike many other shoujo mangas, LoveCom has likeable characters. Risa isn't afflicted by that shoujo stupidity and romantic desperation that plagues many protagonists; Otani is not your stock supposedly-perfect-but-gets-weak-when-it-comes-to-love romantic interest. The characterizations are consistent, and both of them are supported by a funny and enjoyable cast of side characters.

Some flaws with the series: some of the arcs and dialogue feel a bit fabricated. The grandpa arc is one that I particularly dislike, and the events surrounding Mighty had me mentally screeching, "But this would never HAPPEN. And if it did, it would be CREEPY." Dialogue felt unnatural at times also-- I could definitely perceive that Umibozu was used as a common interest between Risa and Otani, and it felt quite strained at times. Their giant/dwarf act did grow tiresome as the manga progressed. But these complaints are not serious ones-- there's nothing offensive to either the readers' intelligence or the audience's sensitivity here. Just genuine, cutesy romance.

Overall, LoveCom is a series I'll definitely reread for the comedy. The characters are lovable, the romance is "d'awww"-worthy, and the plot puts an unusual spin on the archetypal shoujo norms. If you're a shoujo fan like me, I highly recommend checking this out.

THE BEST Shoujo Out There

Lovely Complex (or just Love Com) is honestly one of the best shoujo manga reads you will probably ever have in your lifetime. I actually can't begin to explain how this thing grows on you in such a short time. The characters are so full of life and personality that you'd be crazy not to love them. The humor is superb, I mean I literally roll around laughing and I've read the manga three times and seen the anime at least four times. It never seems to get old. Otani and Koizumi just keep you coming back for more humor, laughs, sad times, and good times. Their relationship isn't like the typical shoujo mangas where they fall in love all at once and both of them are absolutely perfect together. No. This manga is full of give and take and changing how you see people and, wow, it's amazing. It's a work of art in fact. I can't explain it but trust me when I say that this is a literal must read. smile

One of the best shoujos!

This manga brings back so many memories for me haha! But I re-read it recently and it's just amazing! I used to be into shoujo but now I've kinda grown out of it because they were all so repetitive and nothing seemed to amaze me anymore. But this manga is not only very non-stereotypical, it's amazing and very funny. Like if you think you can't laugh at manga, I dare you to read this because you'll be in stitches.
Also side note, the anime is awesome also! I'd say, like with most anime-adapted manga, to read the manga first but make sure you defenetily watch the anime later because it's halairious!
Highly recommended manga! It's like my title says:
It's one of,if the best, shoujo mangas ever! smile
