Yubikiri (Pinky Promise) by Ashihara Hinako

Pinky Promise
-it was ok, but their feelings could be portrayed better.
7.5/10

Cuckoo Child
-this one...just no. It has so many things wrong with it: she sleeps with a guy who dumped her, the guy she ended up with was already married and divorced because of her, etc.
She falls in love easily - fine, I'll let that go. But that doesn't mean she should try to seduce a stranger she just met the second after she "fell in love" - not to mention she fell in love within the first 10 seconds after meeting him for the first time.
The author glazes over the heroine's selfishness and tries to justify her actions as a result of a sad past. Well, regardless of a sad past or not, what she did is still wrong and inappropriate as the heroine. She is not an anti-hero. This means the author is supporting her actions as right and acceptable, which I find even more repulsive.
As for that guy she fell in love with: I don't even want to mention him. He's an adult. He should know better and not be so impulsive. In any case, his actions just goes to show what kind of man he is - the kind to throw his marriage vows to his wife and his love for her out the window after meeting a high school girl 3 times. But this is not what irked me the most. What really irked me is that the author portrayed him as a nice, polite, and gentlemanly person. Such people like this jerk exists, despite their exterior, but I don't want to see him portrayed as a good person - because he's not. This is how the author portrays him: his unfaithfulness is acceptable since he seems nice, and his wife has developed a bad temper (and, of course, we are not told why the wife became like that.) Well let me ask you, is the wife's story told? NO, so the author shouldn't imply that his wife is bad in order to try to justify him as a decent husband - decent enough to betray her, that is.
Moreover, his actions are contradicting : when he first meets the teenaged girl, he scolds her for seducing him and suggesting that he should let her go to his house - to do what? Sleep with him, obviously. Watching a movie only served as an excuse. It may be true she is interested in the movie, but she can just wait for the next day when he returns it. So scolding her was right. Good job, mangaka, portraying the guy as a good guy. Then how about the 3rd time he sees her? HE LETS HER GO TO HIS HOUSE WHILE HIS WIFE IS AWAY. Only an idiot does that - that or he wants to have an affair already. Not to mention, he fell in love with the teenaged girl-who-looks-like-his-daughter too fast - so fast that I DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT COMING. Here's what happened: on that 3rd time he meets her, they go to his house. His wife just happens to come back. Obviously, she gets upset and leaves. Her husband does not chase after her because "he'll explain later." (Oh, you love her so much, don't you? A NORMAL PERSON WOULD CHASE AFTER HER!) The teenaged girl then professes her love again. Then the 30-year-old man kisses her. (WAIT. WHAT?! Wasn't this the guy who was lecturing her about propriety just a while agoconfused) Later on, he decides to "break up" with the teenaged girl (when nothing actually started... (0_0)p ) Why? This is the explanation the narration gives us: "suddenly, he realized he loved his wife more." Oh-ho. Now ain't that shocking? (NOT. If it was the other way around, I'd be more shocked.) BUT WAIT - he divorces his wife later on to be with his teenaged daughter - whoops, I mean girlfriend. (Major face palm. But for some reason, I'm not shocked anymore...maybe because I don't expect anything better from this jerk.)
1/10. 0 if possible

60 Days
-this one is pretty good. Maybe that's why I found the second story so disappointing. The mangaka really disappointed me with her themes in that one.
8/10

TL;DR - don't read the second story. Read the first and third one. They're good. 7.9/10

yeah i like it and there are some interesting twists that i didnt expect from a shoujo manga..

YUBIKIRI- i thought that it was kindda like that one story form Confidential Confessions except there was a boy who was also suicidal who had this tragic love.. but it wasnt the main point of teh story so it was lighter..

CUCKOO CHILD- it was pretty unique.. ive never been that much of a fan of the angst filled, wild heroine, but the girl has her reasons, i nver really expected the outcome, i thought that it was gonna be another one of those i-love4-my-friend romances.. thank god its not!!!

60 DAYS- i like this one.. because i can lightly see myself with the heroine, though i have many friends.. but the love for books and her attitude... and also the guy wasnt as expected but i kindda expected him to follow her and eureka!! he did...

anyways... this is a very refreshing manga!! highly recommended!!!

First story 7.1/10

2nd story 1/10 i dont get the idea .. < the heroin charachter was ok , but so stupid she'll js go w/ anyone she's not fitto be a heroin they should b like role models , ok maybe she changed later but stll she's so bold in in the way she interacts w/ the the other gender , & the story was kinda rushed .. kinda so space for a plot ..

3rd story 9.7/10 .. so nice if it was a series w/ the same idea it would have bee so cool !! ..

Well, I don't understand why you all dislike the second one (Cuckoo Child). I really enjoyed reading Pinky Promise and Cuckoo Child. I think, the most popular third one (60 days) were a little annoying. I also liked it, but not as much as the other ones. Especially the fact, that the heroine in Cuckoo Child wasn't that likeable! The readers of Shojo Mangas always complain about the mainstream heroine: cheerful, naive, not experienced in love at all etc. But suddenly, they dislike a story because of "the heroine is not like usual heroines". Well... that's really annoying. I really like the works of Ashihara-sensei and this was a good collection of one-shots.

I agree, the second story kind of sucked. I loved the first and third... it was so good. For some reason.. I notice the guy character tend to look exactly like Daigo from Sand Chronicles (reading this manga at the moment and i'm obsess).

It was pretty good. Though the second story was okay.. kinda weird how that all ended up. Thought the mother should have came out and helped her. She was messed up mentally. ANd i doubt that relationship will last.

Haha, I'm the same as everyone else, a fan of the first and third ones, but not the second one. None of them were very amazing or anything, but they were good reads.
