The story takes place in a fictional world full of monsters and adventurers called Monster Hunters, who, as their name implies, hunts these monsters. The plot revolves around a young Monster Hunter, Shiki, whom was taken in as an apprentice to a Monster Hunter named Gurelli as a child. A few years after Gurelli's death, which was due to a gunpowder incident, he comes back to his master's residence, Akamaaya Town, to join the guild there. In that guild, he meets a girl called Irie and after a series of events, he finds that she is the daughter of his master. From this point onwards, they form a party to find the legendary Miogaruna, which was Gurelli's life-long ambition.

The manga is based off of the monster hunter game, before this came out my girlfriend who also plays the game made a comment on Mashima Hiro's Fairy tail guild hall and its similarities. As a game series i complete adore, I love the fact that Mashima Hiro actually did take references from the game and that he himself plays it. The first chapter was amazing for me, pointing out each and every monster and armor piece/weapon in the game.

Great Work!

Another work from Hiro Mashima.
Better than RAVE or Fairy Tail in my opinion, so I rate it very high, especially for one reason: "It didn't have 'Plue' like character/thing/mascot in it (and I do hope it'll never be on future releases)." unlike his other works, since it's based on a game.

Very Shounen, with all those hero characteristic thingies (friendship, determination, etc.). I like it.

Clean, expressive and easy for the eyes Artwork, that's definitely a plus. Didn't stray (too far) from the game, and have good battle action so far.
But more importantly, it have good overall comedy quality (simple, understandable, and didn't 'overstep').

I loved this comic so far as has a lot of promise and the story is great with a lot going for it the art work is well done for the most part and very clear and easy to tell whats going on. (Seems to be a bit slow in new chapter releases thoe thats only down side.)

i've only read the first chapter so far, but it's very similar to any work of hiro mashima, namely fairy tale. protagonist is 'stupid', loud and overall really fun.

Normally, I don't read mangas that are based on video games, but after learning that this was being done by Hiro Mashima, this is an exception.

I'll agree that this manga will remind readers of certain mangas (Fairy Tail and One Piece), but, he does have originality when it comes with his drawing style, and as always, the plot is quite intruiging.

My only complaint is that it is a monthly manga, but as long as this keeps going, I won't mind at all.

It's not the best, but for sure one of the best mangas I found. Interesting and refreshing at the same time, and although there are only 4 scanlated chapters, it already feels like a big story. Nice style smile

I read it because I saw Mashima's name on it. He has a thing for making friendship and teamwork look really good, but this one shares a bit of the awkward pacing that Rave had. Otherwise, it's a quick read, kind of fun and entertaining. Fairy Tail is undoubtedly his better work though, with a much better balance between plot, action, and character development.

The art is neat. I like that. And I happen to be a sucker for generic shounen manga - as long as I get new, stronger characters that need to be overcome, a determined, cliche hero motif, I'm good to go.

Generic but not that bad

Looks like a generic shonen rave-style from the first chapter. Not that bad, if you are not frightened by shonen cliches such as "friendship" or "hard work" or "live for your dreams!"
